That's why there are two major lawsuits flying around right now - one from people trapped in the epic DISASTER and another from shareholders.

Please go back and reread my posts. I haven't shifted.
But, if I had been working since 1974 and only had $168k in the bank, I would call that a failure.
I think that some of you need to be more objective in your view of the airline by looking at the total picture of their finances.
The future is uncertain with both a class action and shareholder suit in play.

Some believe that Southwest can do no wrong and will defend the brand to the end. I appreciate that and I suppose I feel the same way about Mercedes.
However, there is no way to explain away the DISASTER that occurred over the Holidays. There have been many posts in an attempt to distract from the DISASTER, but in the end, Southwest allowed the organization to be in a very bad position.
Shareholders wouldn't be suing if there was no reason. However, continue to believe that everyone is wrong except you and Southwest.

Like I said, the cash on hand by Southwest is pretty dismal if you consider how long they have been in business. It is like me working since 1974 and having only less than a year's salary saved up since then.
Not what I would brag about...

Not really the point. The point is the $13.5 billion isn't really that big of a deal when you scale everything.
However, I appreciate the distraction.

Southwest having $13.5 billion of cash on reserve is all relative. If their total revenues are about $16 billion, then that is like someone who earns $200k per year having a savings account of $169k in their checking and savings accounts combined. Considering that most people in that income level have vastly more than that saved, in relative terms, Southwest's balance sheet is weak.
Their income is like the person earning $200k annually is able to save, after taxes, $12,000. Not exactly a windfall by any stretch.
It is all relative. Talking billions means nothing until you compare it to their income, balance sheet and other obligations.
Their liabilities are also about double their annual earnings. So, the same as someone earning $200k per year and has total outstanding debt of $400k.

So now we have both a class action suit and actual shareholders are suing. The net sum of this will likely place the organization into an unstable financial situation.
This is the price you pay for letting your system be sloppy and compromise people's Holiday travel. This was a DISASTER.

He/she was ordered to do it. It is not an act of humility, it is an act driven by damage control.
Southwest is facing liability close to $100MM and it has taken a severe dent out of their financial statements. They have to accrue a provision for this loss and that comes right out of earnings. The fallout will be enough to make this airline unstable, in my view.

To my dear legal scholar,
The judge does not have to agree to a settlement if the plaintiff wants to withdraw the case. I don't know where you get your information. I anticipate that the case will be SETTLED and the complaint withdrawn.
Please do some research before responding to posts. Thank you.

Thank you for the link. I filed the complaint and considering legal action to bring their behavior into focus. There is a legal theory that if you operate outside the scope of your job you can be held personally liable and agency law no longer applies.
With that said, I doubt that TSA advises and trains agents to be hostile, demeaning and nasty. Therefore, I will see what the director at MCO says about the creature's behavior.
If you want change, you have to speak up.

Tonight I experienced yet another rude, hostile and arrogant TSA creature. I'm standing in the wave device and he is barking at me about things in my pocket. I know to remove items from my pockets, but if I say NO and there is something, it shows up anyway.
Also, the creature barked at me because my foot was not absolutely over the yellow outline on the floor. When I looked, there was about an inch of yellow showing. The creature did this just to show me who's boss.
I absolutely detest the people at TSA who act like this.

Very unfortunate. I am truly sorry for your situation.
You can try calling the executive office or investor relations and ask that they move your reimbursement up in the chain.

I believe that your dismissive response only reflects poorly on Southwest. What it says is that neither you, nor Southwest, care about upgrading the systems that created the DISASTER over the Holiday period.
For those still looking for luggage and had a ruined Holiday, keep in mind that the time is gone forever.

Why should I buy a tracking device? Let Southwest upgrade its 1980s system and adopt barcoding and realtime tracking of items.
The legal fallout from the recent disaster will be around for a long, long time.

You bring up an interesting point. You sit in the middle, and if someone wants the seat, you move to the aisle or window and say go for it!
Interesting. I guess you can do that because you are choosing any open seat. It is kinda like preboarding. You are required to "self declare" as a person in need, but you must do this on each flight. That says that the declaration expires at some point after you make the declaration.
So, I guess you can "self declare" as a person in need, get your seat, then withdraw your declaration. Interesting.

It is very unfortunate, yes. I suspect that's the reason that the class action suit got filed, to be sure that everyone's rights were protected.

Ask for a flight attendant. You do not need to acknowledge the person, respond to the person or even consider them human. Pass your complaint to the flight attendant.
The captain of the airline has authority in the sky and until the plane pulls up and opens its door. While in the air, the captain can order the unruly passenger to behave or that passenger can be arrested when the plane lands.

Notice if you read, I didn't say that the case would make it to trial and be decided by July. I said it would be SETTLED by July.
Southwest does not want this to go to trial. So, they (Southwest) will likely make an offer to the plaintiff attorney who can communicate with his clients and also agree that the settlement will extend to everyone who meets certain criterial.

DISAGREE - I CALLED SOUTHWEST AND ASKED
Southwest advised me that with open seating, saving seats does not exist. The concept is fantasy and does not work with the airline.
Any open seat is yours, period. What I said once on a flight who told me that the seat was saved was:
"That's a great concept for a book, but it won't work on Southwest."
If the seat is open, you sit there - period. I agree that they need to buy upgraded flights. There is no way that anyone is going to make you move.
Your point is correct.

There is no way that the people handling your complaint are "unaware" of the chaos and disaster that occurred over the holidays. You didn't pay a fee to complete one leg of a trip, you paid for the entire trip.
Such nonsense is totally unacceptable. This may be why people have lost patience with Southwest's inability to resolve these issues.
