I’m pretty sure you will have to wait a year before you can reapply if you withdraw. If you are still waiting for a start date, I would consider continuing to work in the meantime and making the decision between your current job and Southwest when the time comes. You have to consider that this opportunity may not come up again. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!

Southwest requires that you are available at all times, and that the job takes priority over whatever other activities you may be involved in. It seems that the trend is once you are certified, you’ll probably go to evenings/nights. Once you are certified though, you are able to trade and giveaway hours. Good luck with your situation. I would suggest you try to ride it out as long as possible.

You’ll be in the same class for a few days, and if there are different positions in your class with you, they’ll eventually split you up. I hope this helps and Congrats!

Just an fyi for all, I’ve been on the ramp for 5 months now. I received an email mid-August to finally fill out my USPS forms. So, don’t fret if you don’t get that email right away. It took nearly 4.5 months from my start date to receive mine. 😅
On the plus side, I am off probation next month and will be an official Southwest Employee and member of the union. 😊
Good luck to all!

Do a search on the Careers page based on location. It’ll show you all available postings, if any. Good luck!

On the ramp, Yes and No. The differential offered is weird and seems so be based on ramp job and schedule, not necessarily just overnights. I can’t make sense of it. And its paid in one lump sum which is nice. You’ll know the differential offered for a job when you view the bid list. It’ll have its own column. I hope this helps!

Would you mind making this comment into its own post? This comment has such valuable information in it that I think a lot of newly hired CSAs would appreciate reading about your experience!

Do a search on SWAlife and you should see there is a file with a step-by-step tutorial. If not, contact the benefits people! That’s how I did it. They sent me a link, I uploaded everything and it took about 2 weeks to be approved and show up in my eligible travelers.

You should get Dallas info during your first week, so don’t worry! You will have plenty of time to plan. In the mean time, study those city codes so you can make it to Dallas. Lol.

I think it may depend on your position. I work on the ramp, so it may be different for you. I went to Dallas way back in April. We were tested on our codes the end of our first week. Dallas came a couple weeks later and had other tests for us. It was not multiple choice for me. Ideally you should know 100% because our customers are depending on us to know our jobs. We use these codes daily, and I’m glad I didn’t just aim for the minimum score (which was 80%). I hope this info helps!

I used every method I could. I used the study stack, I had a printed sheet with the codes on it, I had flash cards for the harder ones, and I had my spouse quiz me nightly on the ones I had trouble with. I did anything and everything I could to learn those codes.

I would apply when you are ready. Like you said, there is no sense in applying and risking your spot in the program. Your head is in the right place, and I think you have a good plan. You and I both know that pilots are in demand right now, and the need will continue to be there. 😀 Good luck!

Don't fret! I made physical flash cards too. 😉 Writing it helped me cement it in my brain.

Well, your first day and first week will all be in a classroom-type setting. You'll probably get a tour of the airport and see some areas of interest. You'll be watching a lot of slideshows about Southwest and its history, culture, and policies. You'll also learn basic safety for working out on the ramp. After that first week, you'll transition to OJT, and you'll be on the ramp learning how to put all your classroom training to practical use. 😀
Huge words of advice: Start hydrating yourself now. It takes a bit to actually get your body to where it needs to be. It will probably be hot out there. Comfy sneakers are a must. A wide brim hat is also super helpful to protect your face and neck from the sun... and ALWAYS wear your sunscreen.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

Like @TheMiddleSeat said. All you need is a name and telephone number, just in case. It'll have a bag tag attached to it, so your name will at least be on that.
Oh, and a good tape job is always helpful!

You need to know the city and the code. Certain cities where there are multiple airports, you'll need to know the airport, too. A good example is Chicago-Midway and Chicago-O'Hare.
Also, there is no multiple choice, so you'll either know it or you won't.
It'll give you a city, and you type in the code.
Ex. Tampa, Florida. ---> TPA
HAPPY STUDYING!

They are the ones that work at the gate during boarding. They scan boarding passes, communicate with the flight crew, figure out the weight and balance. They do so much more than that though! There is a lot of standing involved, and I recommend comfortable shoes. There is usually OT for us rampers, and I'm sure it's available in the other departments too. It'll be a minute before you can grab OT. After you are fully certified and signed off, you take whatever OT you want. There are always people who want to give away their shifts, so you can always grab extra hours that way too.
Maybe another OPS Agent can chime in here?

Being a new hire, I've already had 5 different schedules.
1. 0730-1600. Sat/Sun off (assigned)
2. 0530-1400. Tue/Wed off (assigned)
3. 1730-0200. Wed/Thu off (assigned)
4. 1730-0200. Thu/Fri off (bid)
5. 1330-2200. Fri/Sat off (bid/current)
I've been working since the beginning of April, so you can see how it might've been hard to have a PT job. It is not the same at every station tho. There are other rampers out there that haven't had as many schedule changes. It varies based on station. If you need the PT, I would wait a little bit before quitting and see how it goes.

Range, that's usually something you'll ask during the hiring process. Location, it will be listed in the post. If it's remote, it'll have a list of approved states. If it's not remote, you'll see the location listed. If you're looking for opportunities in Houston, you'll have to do a careers search specifically for Houston. There really isn't any flex with location. They hire based on where they need people. I hope this helps and good luck!
