Southwest Airlines is the latest example of a company turning to social media - Facebook in this case - to promote a service or special offer. It joins countless of other companies, from Fortune 500 to start ups, that are using these sites, in addition to standard - and still primary - methods as email marketing. New figures, along with anecdotal examples such as Southwest's experiences, though, suggest that a growing number of companies are willing to devote more to this alternative category - once, that is, they can get a handle on ROI and resource issues. to read more, visit: http://www.marketingvox.com/video-contest-part-of-southwests-socnets-strategy-045699/?utm_campaign=rssfeed&utm_source=mv&utm_medium=textlink

I understand it's a major decision, but I'm personally surprised that it's taken Southwest so long to consider Greenville, SC for operation. It would drastically improve airfare via competition in the GSP airport, and simultaneously steal back a large number of travelers flocking to CLT and ATL in search of lower fares. Not only that, but GSP would also be prime placement to fill a huge gap in Southwest's route map. Although Southwest doesn't offer international service, Greenville County represents some of the highest per capita international investment, which means a large number of business travelers. Obviously it also doesn't hurt that Greenville County is home to regional, national, and international headquarters for more than 75 companies...and that's just Greenville county!

I hope they decide to make airports like BWI and MCO as at least 2 of the cities. I am hopeful the schedule is posted soon as I would enjoy being able to fly into that airport in conjunction with the softball tournaments that would be played in Panama City. The addition of MDW and maybe even the possibility of a city like PHX would open things from the western part of the country. Good luck in Panama City Southwest, Look forward to seeing your smiling faces in the new airport.

As someone with severe aviophobia, I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate Southwest's jubilant approach to air travel. I'm a soggy mess when I get on an airplane, and the stewards and stewardesses have always been nothing but kind, reassuring, and incredibly nice to me and my poor boyfriend, who usually winds up comforting me the whole time. I even wrote about Southwest here: http://www.studentstuff.com/2009/12/08/fly-safely-and-whimsically-with-southwest/ to try and get others to fly the Southwest skies!

“Bags fly free!” I’ve been extolling Southwest airline’s now-famous tag line for days; been tweeting it as well. I flew Southwest to Kansas City for Thanksgiving. Family of five. Four of them girls. That’s a lot of bags. And guess what: my bags flew free! I’m a big fan of the service (it seems ridiculous and unfair for airlines to charge for suitcases) and I’m an even bigger fan of the phrase. This is a piece of copy that says what it does, in no uncertain terms. There is a noun (bags) a verb (fly) and an adjective (free). Nothing more… for nothing more is needed. The line is as frugal and pragmatic as the airline it was written for. to read more, visit: http://godsofadvertising.wordpress.com/2009/12/02/for-southwest-airlines-its-on-heres-to-ad-copy-no-strings-attached/

You may think that you snagged a great deal on that flight home for the holidays, but if you’re planning on traveling with bags, think again. Not only are there fees galore just for checking a bag, but there are also fees for oversized and overweight luggage that could cost you as much as $300 per bag (each way!). That, alone, could easily top the price of your ticket. Check out the numbers in the above diagram! LearnVest shows you how to not be a sucker: 1. Fly JetBlue Or Southwest. Airlines with budget-friendly airfares are also friendly to your bags. JetBlue allows one checked bag per passenger free of charge and Southwest allows two. I travel in my job. A lot. While I am not necessarily thrilled with being at the airport or in the air all that much there are a few things I take refuge in that make it tolerable. One of those is Southwest Airlines. I love Southwest Airlines. It is amazing to me that their business model not only works but that Southwest consistently posts the highest rates for customer satisfaction and on-time flights…while at the same time having a low incidence of lost luggage. Let’s take a look at what makes Southwest work and relate it to being successful at customer service. to read more, visit: http://www.visioncareproducts.com/ME2/Audiences/dirmod.asp?AudID=6885CE1E5B9D4FE89D6AB336E4378B13&id=12BBB6C9961447C2B386445AA8EC8DD4&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&mod=Publications%3a%3aArticle&nm=Customer+Service&tier=4&type=Publishing&sid=A12797E212BF47AE94D3C4DEC7C175AB

There seems to be an error here! No frills? Free snacks, free drinks, no change fees, no bag fees. That is a lot more frills than those legacy carriers. OK, you don't have first class, but then again, without paying through the nose, how many times does even a frequent flyer (unless he is super double platinum elite) really get upgraded? Give me SWA any day!

from The Cranky Flier by CF It’s certainly a coincidence that the winner of the signed Southwest timetable is none other than Robert Stack, the author of the True Meaning of Thanksgiving. Robert by far had the most comprehensive entry, and in fact took many photos of timetables, airplanes, and a little alcohol. Think about how neat it would be if more companies had a supportive, active and fun culture like the one at Southwest Airlines.
Kudos to Southwest for doing it right and for setting an example!

I write on this, the busiest travel day of the year when it comes to commercial flying. If there's anything that will help get you through the airport and flying on this Wednesday before Thanksgiving, it's a sense of humor. Be thankful there is no shortage of cheap airfares this week. Southwest announced a 7-day Thanksgiving sale today with the snarky promo “Only turkeys charge for bags.” Fares out of Burbank (BUR) and Los Angeles (LAX) start at $59 each way. But wait, that’s not the only low-cost carrier offering a travel deal. JetBlue has a sale because “there aren’t enough ways to say thank you” this Thanksgiving with seats starting at $29 each way. And of course you don’t want to miss Virgin America’s “Keep Your Wallet Stuffed” sale with fares starting as low as $39 each way. I tested the deals and here’s what I found: to read more, visit: http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/fare-war-southwest-j-5889/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DailyDealsLosAngelesTimesTravel+%28Daily+Travel+%26+Deal+Blog%29

To whom it may concern
I am a student at Capella University and Southwest Airlines are mentioned on our classes as an example of a good business providing great services to the masses. My last assignment we had to talk about Southwest web page. I notice the "turkey" for the luggage advertising, and I am assuming SWA choose the "turkey" for the Thanksgiving occasion. My curiosity would like to know if you are going to use Scrooge for Christmas.

It's become a tradition for the various departments within Southwest Airlines' Headquarters in Dallas to host a Thanksgiving Feast the week before the actual Thanksgiving. Why? Well, we all love food, and we love being able to spend time with our coworkers (who are really our second family). Our Marketing Department was kind enough to share some pictures (and secret recipes!) below. If you do happen to use one of these special recipes this Thursday, just remember to give credit where credit is due...the peeps at Southwest Airlines. Mema’s Fruit Salad from Erin Terry in Online Marketing 1 can chunky mixed fruit 1 small can pineapple chunks 1 small can mandarin oranges 1 jar maraschino cherries 1-2 tsp. sugar ½ tsp. vanilla Whipped Cream Put all fruit in a colander and set in refrigerator for a few hours. Beat whipped cream in a large bowl until stiff – if you use whipping cream (recommended). You may also use cool whip. Add 1-2 tsp. sugar, ½ tsp. vanilla; combine with whipped cream and fruit. Add cherries on top (drain on a paper towel first). Thanksgiving Breakfast Quiche Recipe from Athena Halton in Online Marketing 1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg 4 large eggs 9 in extra deep pie shell 1 1/2 cups of grated swiss cheese Sprinkle of salt and pepper Optional: Ham, or Turkey, Cooked and Crumbled Bacon, or Fresh Vegetables Set oven at 350 degrees and put frozen pie shell in the oven for about 5-10 minutes, until the shell is slightly defrosted/toasted and then remove from oven and turn oven up to 425 degrees. Combine heavy whipping cream, nutmeg, salt/pepper, and eggs together and mix until they are well mixed. Put grated swiss cheese into pie shell and add other meats and vegetables as desired. Then pour mixture into pie shell over the other ingredients. Put quiche into the oven at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, then turn oven down to 350 degrees and let cook for another 30-40 minutes until crust is brown. Remove from oven and let cool. ENJOY! Spinach Madeline from Kelly Shoenfelt in Online Marketing 2 pkg. frozen spinach 4 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1/2 c. milk 1/2 c. vegetable liquid (reserved after boiling spinach) 1/2 tsp. pepper 3/4 tsp. celery salt 3/4 tsp. garlic salt 6 oz. jalapeno cheese, cut in pieces 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce Bread crumbs for topping Cook spinach according to package directions. Reserve liquid needed. Melt butter; add flour; stir until smooth, brown, add liquid. Stir until cooked; add seasoning, cheese, and onions. Stir until smooth and melted. Combine with spinach; pour into casserole and top with bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees until brown. Happy Thanksgiving! to watch a delectable video of our feast, check out: http://blogsouthwest.com/video/southwest-airlines-thanksgiving-2009
