I'm not sure where you got that from, but I flew on Southwest twice last week on Ding fares ($66 each way) and I used the online check in for both flights... and ended up in the A boarding group both flights... As far as I know, only people using a group or military discount cannot use the online checkin, but I don't think that is new.

Posted by Bob Garfield on 01.04.10 The hair is Cuttery, the shoes DSW, the tux is Sym's. We know we look fabulous. The 12th annual Bobby Awards are under way! Or, possibly, is under way! Whatever! Regrettably, in another down year for advertising creative worldwide, 2009 didn't yield exactly a bumper crop of nominees, but those actors and actresses who have been recognized for their performances are worthy, every single one. to read more, visit: http://adage.com/garfield/post?article_id=141254

I love SW, drive all the way to Denver to go, why not have flights at least from COS to Denver? In Texas they always had short flights from Dallas to Austin and Austin to Houston for cheap, wish they'd do that here! They would have full planes every time!

It was a year many chief executives would like to forget. Sales plummeted, consumers disappeared and profits evaporated. But some corporate chiefs found a silver lining—or at least a new impetus to try things differently. Below, 15 CEOs tell how they managed during the worst downturn in memory—and talk about signs of hope for 2010. to read more, visit: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704541004574600260629473106.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsSecond

Was delayed out of MDW yesterday due to de-icing issue in Detroit. The airport was crowded and we really weren't kept informed about the delay. However, I must say it was the most pleasant delay I have experienced in quite some time! I don't know what it is about Southwest, but I don't seem to experience nearly the number of grumbling passengers (could be fewer grumbling STAFF members contributing to that!) that I do on other airlines. All in all, not a bad day considering the delay.

By MICHELINE MAYNARD United States airlines have cut back on all but the most basic services in recent years — for most passengers. But for their very best customers, some airlines are providing extra perks and creating new tiers of status to make them feel special. to read more, visit: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/23/business/23elite.html

Just in time for Christmas, a special blog post from our guest, Courtney Shaver of The Container Store. We just can’t contain ourselves! Today, The Container Store hosted 20 Southwest Airlines volunteers at one of our stores in Dallas to learn how to create a beautiful gift wrap presentation. Our Gift Wrap Stylists shared tips and tricks for how to create crisp corners and perfect bows in a snap in preparation for our FREE Gift Wrapping events at five airports across the country on Monday, Dec. 21st! We’ll be at Dallas Love Field, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Denver International, Saint Louis Lambert International, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. To see the details of where we’ll be at these airports, check out http://www.containerstore.com/swa. Other great gift wrap tips we shared with the Southwest folks? Be sure to set the stage by finding a hard surface in your home to wrap on, and gather all of your tools before you start: double-sided tape, scissors, ribbon, tissue, and boxes. Choose gift wrap that features a design that is proportionate in size to the box—small designs for small boxes and large designs for those big packages. Be sure to keep the personality of the recipient in mind. Do they love animals? Sports? A particular color? Wrapping their packages with a personal touch lets them know you really care. And remember, if you’re traveling this holiday season and aren’t able to take advantage of our Gift Wrapping events in the airports, be sure you travel with unwrapped presents to allow for a smooth travel experience! As a former Southwest intern and current employee at The Container Store, it’s fun to see our two special and fun companies come together to bring some unexpected cheer to travelers this holiday season. See you at the airport! Courtney Shaver, The Container Store

from Sky Talk by Star-Telegram I saw this on WFAA-8 on Monday night but finally have the time to post this funny little video. Apparently, earlier this fall, Air New Zealand challenged Southwest Airlines to see if the Dallas-based carrier could top the Kiwi’s air safety video where its flight attendants have their uniforms painted on their bodies. (Think of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models a few years ago that wore nothing except a body paint bikini.) to read more, visit: http://startelegram.typepad.com/sky_talk/2009/12/a-naked-herb-kelleher.html

I had just the OPPOSITE experience with Southwest Customer Service. When they severely damaged my bag and some of the contents, they wanted ME to mail the damaged goods to Dallas for appraisal and offered only $100 for about $500 worth of damaged clothing. They did not reimburse me for the 100 mile trip back to the airport to inventory the damaged goods, nor did they offer to pay for parking at the airport. I guess the customer service policy only applies to certain airports…

The Southwest Porch in Bryant park has been around this the summer and has provided locals are tourists strolling through that Midtown greens space a place to relax, have a drink and grab a snack inspired by the cities that the airline services. But for three days this week, Southwest has invited Gadling's favorite catalog, SkyMall, to join the party. With Slankets featured on the cover of the Southwest edition of the catalog, SkyMall made sure to bring plenty of the blanket/robe hybrids to keep guests warm and give away to some lucky attendees. And, one of the catalog's most popular character's, the Garden Yeti, was there in a Slanket all his own. to read more, visit: http://www.gadling.com/2009/12/16/southwest-and-skymall-bring-yetis-and-slankets-to-new-york-city/

I live 4 miles from where the airport is being constructed. I am exuberantly excited that the airport is coming to the area! I used to be a flight attendant and hope to work at the airport do any position available. I cannot understand why on Earth anyone would not want the airport there. It may be a tad noisier, but it will make our property value rise and the area around us develop. (I imagine these negative comments are coming from the weirdos who actually frowned upon us finally getting city water....I am soooooo happy to have city water, the old water stained my bathroom!)
************ I cannot wait to have the new airport! Welcome ECP!!************

No bag fees and no change fees are my primary reasons for flying Southwest. Flying a family of 3 with 5 or 6 checked bags for the holidays. Fares were already better on SWA than the other airlines and when you add in bag fees, the decision is a no brainer. Add to that that SWA has the very best customer service!
