ID is not required for minors (given your scenario of domestic travel). Here is what TSA says: "Children TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling with a companion within the United States. Contact the airline for questions regarding specific ID requirements for travelers under 18." -- source page Southwest does not require anything extra for the situation you described.

Here's an article I just found that goes in to more detail: How Do Layovers Work? A Detailed Guide Random side note, it's always amazing to realize how fast some things in the airline industry change as there is a reference to WOW air, no longer a thing.

I am a fan of the "stopover" for international trips and also think it's a great idea for domestic flights if you have enough time. I personally wouldn't try it with a 2.5 hour layover. At the end of the summer we have a little more than 12 hours in FLL (new airport for me) so we'll head out for the day to explore before returning for our evening flight. To get back through security you just need your ID and boarding pass for the connecting flight, you don't need to go back to the check-in counter.

As mentioned by others earlier in the thread you may want to try to get in touch with Southwest via the "chat" function of the app, you can also try Twitter. You may also want to edit your post to remove your personal contact information.

@CHRISTINAHILTON wrote: I will be setting up my LinkedIn page next month during Seps-TAPS Class. Did you know it’s free for a year for active and veterans? I would set up the LinkedIn account now. As in today. So you can start making the connections. It's free for everyone, the premium subscription (I have not used) is where you get the bonus for veterans. @CHRISTINAHILTON wrote: The ELDP link is for CA residents only and the broader spectrum link seems to be for “starters” looking to learn to lead. Personal opinion but I wouldn't discount the ELDP for two reasons. 1. From what I've seen in the corporate world any type of rotational leadership development program is a crown jewel type of program and opportunity. It will receive senior leadership attention, you will make connections all over the company/across business lines, and you will participate in multiple job functions learning from the ground up. It will give you street cred within the company too. 2. How do I put this one? It took me YEARS in the corporate world to get to the point where I was leading teams of comparable size to the teams I led almost immediately in my Navy career. You have to start somewhere and civilian organizations are incredibly cautious about putting someone in a leadership position. A structured program like ELDP helps them take out some of the risk they have for ANY new leader. You're an experienced leader but new to the organization. You have to prove yourself to them. Two more of my cents, so now maybe you have a nickel. Good luck!

Thinking out loud: Not sure if you've seen the Emerging Leader Development Program, they have a California specific job listing up now, see here, but they also have information about the broader program, see here. There is also a post about a former military member who was in the program back in 2016 here, you may want to see if you are able to connect with him on LinkedIn. I am a fan of LinkedIn, it's usually pretty easy to find folks and I've found that most, especially other veterans, are very receptive to inquiries to learn about their job and how they got there. You can search Southwest and USMC -- you'll see a ton of pilots in the search results but you'll also be able to find folks in other roles too. I don't know if start date has been a factor for you but many hiring managers are looking to fill roles as soon as possible. You mention you are expected to transition in September but I don't know if that factors in any terminal leave, so I'm guessing you may be available earlier. You're going to find a job, just know that. Even if it's not with Southwest right out of the gate. I don't know you but I know that if you're a Marine Staff Sergeant then I'm willing to bet that I can trust you and that you will work hard and figure out how to solve problems by leading a team, even if you are under resourced. Good luck! And go Navy 😉

No, as per TSA baseball bats must be checked. Go to the TSA "What Can I Bring?" page then search for bat, this is what is there now: "Baseball Bats Carry On Bags: No Checked Bags: Yes Sports equipment that can be used as a bludgeon (such as bats and clubs) is prohibited in the cabin of the plane and must be transported in your checked baggage."

No, EarlyBird check-in is for BEFORE boarding positions are assigned. Here is the page with EarlyBird FAQ. Upgraded Boarding, if any A1-A15 positions are available, is available for purchase at the airport. Upgraded Boarding page.

It's still my undertanding that Southwest does not have a military boarding policy. If such a policy exists (on the web or elsewhere) then please point me to it, I'd like to be able to provide a reference for others! I think what is seen in airports today is an informal practice that has, by default, become an unwritten policy.

@75775873 I always start with the low fare calendar, this is the link for the FLL to BUF route in September. From what I see I don't know that sale fares would be much lower than what is showing available on the calendar now.

Two additional point of reference (*edited to add never in bullet point two below): I don't know of any travel insurance products that will kick in for a 55 minute delay. I am not affiliated with Freebird and I've *never used their product, but they advertise a service that rebooks you from a disrupted flight when there is a four hour delay.

The first bullet points for each of the fares you mentioned, from the page: "Anytime These fares are refundable and changeable and may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines for the originally ticketed passenger only." "Wanna Get Away Fares are nonrefundable but may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines for the originally ticketed passenger only."

I've never applied to work at Southwest but there are other forums where this is discussed, this one is the most concise. You can also search for "closed complete" and you'll find the other discussion threads. It looks like the official answer listed in some of the other discussions is that this is a normal status in the application process. If you are selected to move forward, someone from the SW Recruiting Team will reach out to you either through phone or email.
