They have a list you can see already...it's the one with the prices on it. The cheapest flight has the most empty seats. And why would it really matter, if you have an N95 mask? If you feel it's useful, and are going to wear one, why exactly does it matter how many extra people you're near? Either it works, or it doesn't.

Let's look at the odds in total. Try to follow me here, because it's statistical logic that's hard to follow. Option #1: The chance of you avoiding the virus until then, but getting it on your layover, and having bad results (ie. bad symptoms, no therapy figured out by then, etc). Option #2: Everything else. Getting it before then, getting on one flight vs. the other, having a vaccine or other medical solution by then, etc, etc, etc. In other words, the likelihood after the fact of saying "If only I'd taken the direct flight" is vanishingly small. You're talking about September. Things will be different. And hopefully the direct flights will be back by then.

I hear you....fees are like fines...and shouldn't be the answer. But there's literally no way to make people be polite. Even a deadly virus can't stop people from being brainless. I look forward to the day my FA grabs a jacket or purse out of the overhead and drops it on a passenger's lap, saying "I told YOU personal items do not belong in the overhead bin". Or maybe he/she stands up at the end of the flight and says "How about everyone only stands up when there's room?" Or "Let the aisle clear behind you if you have to take time to clear your things" I will not block the aisle if the person behind me is ready to deboard. Unfortunately, most other people aren't quite so benevolent. Many even force themselves a few rows back to get their overhead bag. Seriously selfish. I'm pretty sure if they are flying SW, they aren't so important that they can't wait 15 seconds on the plane rather than holding up everyone else.

I wish they would follow these simple rules ALL THE TIME. You think it saves anyone any time getting off the plane? Nope. In fact, it takes everyone longer to wait for the dullards in front of them who block the whole row. Now you realize how clueless and selfish most people are. Even in light of a pandemic, they can't just stay seated. I would love it if it would incentivize SWA to start charging for overhead bin space. Check your bags (it's free already!) or put stuff under the seat. No fighting for bin space, blocking the aisle, and more ability for the FA's to enforce not putting jackets etc. in the overhead bins.

Uh, it's right there in the name: "emergency". 1. The masks can't be reused. 2. The oxygen supply would run out and need to be replaced 3. They wouldn't last the whole flight. It's kinda like you wanting to use your passenger side airbag as a pillow to sleep on in a car ride. It's just not at all practical.

If we're really doing 6ft, you're more or less left with 2 people per aisle, every other aisle empty. That's a pretty empty plane. As noted, they'd have to charge a LOT more to make money, not to mention the retrofit cost. At the current prices, I could sit in the middle seat, put both arm rests up, and be pretty comfortable. Legroom isn't a big issue for me, and I'm over 6'. I agree that it's not price making people fly or not these days. Those of us who do fly appreciate the usual SWA pricing and the generous policies. Those who aren't flying SWA wouldn't decide to just because they tried out first class. Don't forget... they have no drink service at all, and won't EVER have food. I figure that's part of the allure of FC. Also, I suspect the wry snark of SWA employees would be lost on the typical FC elite. Might even offend some of them. I wouldn't want to subject my SWA friends to that sort of demeaning restriction. 🤣

@whitejane53 wrote: The only reason I use my South West Card for all my purchases is that I can get gift cards with the points. I will start using my Fed Express as they still have gift cards. Wouldn't it be simpler and more efficient to get a cash back card? My AMEX card does just that. I'm sure you're losing value in the transaction. Or is this some complicated money laundering scheme I'm unaware of?

You fly SWA so much that you get so many points you redeem them for cash (ie. Gift cards), rather than flights? And if you can't do that, you'll fly another airline (and spend more cash), just so you get a small fraction of it back? Sorry, I'm not following the logic.

A related and possibly better question is how are you going to drink ANYTHING on board starting next week? A mask with a hole in it? How do they manage on the long haul flights like Hawaii these days? Buying your own beverages at the airport sucks, but at least it's water or soda. Are they going to police how long you're allowed to have your mask down to stay hydrated ? That's more of a curiosity to me than wondering how any particular Coke may have met Jack in the restroom prior to boarding...

I think your expectation that every seat will be full is quite ludicrous. And SHOUTING just reinforces that notion. You have your ticket... why not wait a few weeks to see what happens, rather than getting apoplectic? Think back 6 weeks.... was anything the same as it is now?

Sorry, I totally disagree. You were treated professionally, and in accordance with the rules. You wanted special consideration and didn't get it. So you come and complain here. Claiming you were a flight attendant doesn't bolster your case. On the contrary it makes you a hypocrite. Next time weigh your bag. Don't make other people strain to compensate for your laziness.

If you honestly think this will be going on in two years, and you won't be willing to fly, I don't think having a few more $$ in your pocket will matter much at all. Go buy bullets.

Ranting with the caps lock on makes you look quite manic, especially when you misspell. People tend to roll their eyes and chuckle. I'm also not sure why you're complaining about flight prices. All my planned flights are cheaper than normal. I almost feel bad for saving money at the expense of SWA, but I figure my continuing to fly is the best thing I can do for them. I'll be flying in a few hours. I'm sorry your personal situation and beliefs makes you unwilling to fly. But yelling at people won't help... especially in this forum. Maybe take a breath and go find a fun place to fly. Hawaii is $250 round trip right now. Silver linings and all...

Great reminder. In short, it's a way to convert your own tickets to tickets for other people. If you're paying with the RR credit card and can afford it, it allows you to unload your travel funds into points which won't expire, and revert your personal ticket purchases back to the card to gain more miles and CQP. I'm not sure if I'll ever use my points on me. As ALP, I double my points, but as you said, only if I buy the ticket.

These days, it seems the notifications are at best delayed... or never come. Slightly strange considering how well they notify you of a ten minute delay. I've begun to keep my original email notifications in an archive so I had a listing of record locators.

If you have A-list already, it won't ... because you're already extended until next year. And rarely do these things help with A list anyways. TQP is almost exclusively flying, except for the rare bonus. CQP is more likely .

The answers are correct . Nothing you do short of putting new money in the system will get you to your companion pass. If you have the money right now, you could buy $8,000 from Southwest on your RR card and get 16,000 points. That means either buying some expensive flights and then canceling them for travel funds, or just buying the points directly from the sale. At the current 45% sale, it's probably about a wash. I think of it as a way to infuse some cash into SWA to help them weather the storm by prebuying future travel.

Carissa, Tough times for everyone, indeed. To be realistic, SWA would be pretty bad off if they refunded everyone's money . So would every airline . They would be laying off MORE people . It's unfortunate you lost your job, to be sure . But SWA is trying to balance everyone's needs. They do offer a consolation that all your paid travel funds can be converted over to rewards points. This way, they won't expire , and can be used for any traveler. Maybe not as good as cash in your pocket, but closer. Hope that help . Good luck.

One option would be to convert it to RR points by buying and cancelling a ticket, then converting the travel funds to points (via their new program). Then the points could be used indefinitely, for anyone, and with no new expiration date when you cancel. I haven't used a luv voucher, but I suspect RR points are easier to use. Just a thought

Austin, I hear what you are saying. I agree their fairly automated and (usually) painless system has some bugs, and some kinks that you have experienced. For one, yes...the ability for them to instantly notify you that a flight is moved by 10 minutes, but fail to let you know of a cancellation, is a bit absurd. Plus, once it's cancelled, it'll still show up on the app for a while, buttttt....once you click on it and find it's cancelled, you can't get the record locator. Very frustrating. (I love to throw rocks at software programmers...they have it easy in my opinion. Grrr.) But I think your rerouting issue is an artifact of their attempt to be flexible. Airports are located in geographical groups...including the three in DC (Dulles/BWI/DCA). So the good news is (these days) we can reroute our itineraries to any airport that works in the area. The bad news is...their computer will try to do it for you. So, worst case, you have to call and manually cancel or perform other gymnastics with an overworked phone operator. I've had to do this a few times in the last weeks, and somehow I got straight through to a pleasant CSR and solved my problem quickly. I can't imagine any other airline being as painless. Now, we get all these extra consolations for being RR that will extend through 2021 and beyond. Not only does it reward us for being loyal, but it helps them keep cash in their pocket to weather this storm...without so much "help" (ahem) from the government. Maybe your other experiences were under different circumstances, but I think you just got an odd delay on hold. Not sure how I didn't...I chocked it up to being Preferred and going to the head of the line. I sympathize with the hassles going on now, and yeah, I check my account way too often. I have rolled travel funds forward to keep contingency flights on the books. I have to now add two flights to get to Hawaii out of OAK since SJC was cancelled...but only one way. Annoying? A bit. But I think of it is more of a puzzle...one that both saves me money and keeps it with SWA. Good luck!

Sorry, but I'm not following you at all. They pulled the Max from service when directed, and reorganized their itinerary. BOEING caused this problem, not SWA. They are trying to maintain an essential service in the face of 95% fewer passengers. COVID caused this problem, not SWA. I'm not sure why you're placing blame on them, especially in light of challenges that are completely unprecedented in the history of the industry, if not modern civilization. On the contrary, I find their flexibility in shuffling travel times and travel funds, and STILL allowing me to get the lowest possible fare on a moment's notice to be invaluable and totally unparalleled.

I have disconnected flights planned for Hawaii in summer (fingers crossed). Due to flight juggling, I have to fly separate legs prior to the final OGG flight. Is there any way to check bags all the way to the final destination? Or do I have to either carry them on, or hustle out to baggage claim and recheck the bag? Thanks

The boarding process has been revised in my experience to be a single line, 6 ft. apart, no order. With enough seats for everyone to get their own row, with space in between, boarding order isn't an issue.
