@dfwskier wrote: Beware Jessica. It may not be a good deal. Flight prices for the time period are much higher than for late August (at least for the routes I looked at). Southwest will reduce those prices at some point because it will sell no tickets at that level. My guess is it will reduce prices to the late August level or maybe even lower. Why? Very few people fly during that time. It's a dead season. For example, the best DAL / MDW price for late August is $79. The lowest price for the same flight starting mid September - using the discount code - is $80 Of course you can book, and if the price drops. you can change your flight, and pocket a travel fund. I will wait until my expected price drop for the time period happens. I was looking for flights to TUL in October and prior to today roundtrip was $400 - I can get the same flights today using the promo code for around $225. Works for me 😉 Tulsa will never be that low normally! Same with Vegas and their ridiculous prices as of late from PHL ... one leg alone is $400-$500 (Nov 1 going home) - with the code it's cut in half. --Jessica

I haven't received an e-mail about middle seats being open since November 2020 - because starting on December 1, all seats could be occupied. I specifically remember this because I flew on December 4, and the e-mails I got about my flights said that the opening seating policy ended on November 30 and the middle seat "may" be occupied on my flight. --Jessica

I've personally never heard of a flight being delayed 14 times, and I fly fairly often. Actually something like that happened to me in Denver. Also courtesy thunderstorms. I was flying back to Dallas and my flight kept being rescheduled. Flights were being cancelled left and right. but mine kept being pushed back. Finally, my flight was cancelled . It was the last light that Southwest cancelled that day. Of course by then all of the hotels near the airport were full. So it was the only time I slept on the floor at DIA. Hint, if you ever have to do that, take one of the escalators to one of the second floor waiting areas. Much less traffic up there. You might actually able to get a bit of sleep . Good tip! There is only one time that I ever recall sleeping in an airport; I was traveling home with family from a wedding and a snowstorm hit which cancelled our flights. We got rebooked on a super early flight the next morning so we just decided to rough it in the airport. I can't even remember which airport we were stranded in - it was over 20 years ago. --Jessica

Sorry for your trouble - unfortunately, flight delays and cancellations happen. I've personally never heard of a flight being delayed 14 times, and I fly fairly often. I also find it hard to believe that your son didn't have access to food - most if not all restaurants in airports are open now, as well as convenience stores where you can buy drinks, snacks, sandwiches, etc. It may be more difficult for someone who is diabetic to find something to eat, but it shouldn't be impossible. Looking at the Richmond Airport web site, there were options - not a lot, granted, but there are some: https://flyrichmond.com/shopping-and-dining/ --Jessica

That wording isn't the best - you still need to check in to get your boarding pass - however, the benefit of Early Bird is Southwest checks you in 36 hours ahead vs 24, so you can check in any time and you will already have your boarding position assigned. Without Early Bird, you are at the mercy of whenever you actually check in to get your position, which is why people check in right at the 24 hour mark in hopes to get the best position they can. Early Bird eliminates that hassle. --Jessica

Once when I was en route to Vegas I had a connecting flight in Chicago and while I made it to Chicago, our plane was delayed several hours due to some type of battery issue, compounded by the fact that it was going to snow later that day possibly making the flight even more delayed. I remember the agents saying a required part was being flown in on a different airplane *by itself* so the part could be installed on our plane. Once it arrived and was installed, we were able to board and depart. Long story short, because of the delays Southwest gave everyone a $100 voucher - that was nice! --Jessica

What website did you read this? Looking at Southwest, it mentions nothing about needing a negative COVID test to fly in/around California. If you are traveling *to* LA, you may be required to quarantine, but that won't apply to you. If you are just connecting through LA, how does needing a negative COVID test make any sense? https://www.southwest.com/coronavirus/california/ --Jessica

Southwest has an entire page that explains tier and benefit extensions, here is a relevant section for you: If I earned Companion Pass in 2020, will I get an extension beyond 2021? No. We made it easier for all Members to achieve Companion Pass status in 2020 by awarding boosts for Companion Pass qualifying points and flight credits. However, our Rapid Rewards program rules have not changed. Once a Member meets the applicable qualifications, tier status and/or Companion Pass is awarded to the Member immediately and is maintained through the following calendar year. In this case, if a Member qualifies for Companion Pass in 2020, their status will be valid through December 31, 2021. ------ Southwest also reduced the amount of TQPs it takes to get Companion Pass this year - you only need 100,000 as opposed to 125,000. https://www.southwest.com/rapid-rewards-boost/ --Jessica

I will go back though and enter on June 18 when the prize pool is much larger. I do have to wonder about whoever put this promotion together. Waiting for luggage is one of the least fun aspects of flying, so crafting a promo around it is pretty perplexing, IMHO. And making people enter all their info every day, and then click on three different items just to find out they've lost doesn't exactly engender positive feelings about Southwest. Plus some of those "prizes" are pretty silly, to the point of being insulting. 50 points, worth $0.60? That should be the default you win just for entering. smh I get my e-mails every day. And lol at clicking 3 times "just to find out they've lost..." Oh what a chore! Not everyone loses though 😉 It's just a game, lighten up!! If you refuse to play and then don't win as a result, you have no one to blame but yourself. I'm happy with my 50 points, and if that's all I win, that's fine, but I'm optimistic. 😉 Several others have already won more! --Jessica

@Rylan wrote: I have to say, I went and registered for this forum because of how upset I am with southwest. Travel funds expiring in June from a ticket last year that was unusual enough due to covid. I want to book something in August using the funds and SWA refuses to do anything at all. No extension nothing, no options, thank you goodbye. finds never appeared as eligible for extension last year. Not sure I understand this - if you booked a flight and you cancelled it in June of 2020, you should have received travel funds that didn't expire until September 2022. Southwest extended all travel funds from customer-cancelled flights from March-September 7, 2020 to September 7, 2022. There's more you are not telling us about your travel funds if they expire this month. --Jessica

I feel more confident purchasing the ticket now! How can someone who flies Southwest "all the time" think that Wanna Get Away fares are standby only? I'm so confused lol Maybe they confused "standby" with "open seating"? That's my only guess. You don't get an assigned seat with Southwest. It's opening seating and you sit where you like. To reiterate everyone else, Wanna Get Away fares are a guaranteed seat. All the fares are guaranteed seats - the more expensive options just give you more perks, like free wi-fi and earlier boarding, for example. --Jessica

Are you saying that it is going to cost an extra $800 to pick up your rental car - which I assume was also booked through Southwest - on the exact same day? I'm sorry - but that doesn't make sense. It doesn't cost more to pick up your car earlier in the day. Can't you go to your car reservation that you made via Southwest and change the pickup time? That should be all you have to do. I'm not understanding why you can't do this? --Jessica

Yes, flight prices literally fluctuate daily - the benefit of Southwest is once you book, if you notice your flight price went down, you can rebook with no change fees and get a flight credit for the reduction in price. It's really great, I do it all the time. --Jessica

I once checked a bag, went through security to my gate, saw that the flight was delayed to the point where I would miss my connection, and Southwest automatically put me on a different flight with a different connection. When I asked the new gate agent about my bag, she said simply that they knew and would retag it. They did, and I got my bag when I arrived at my final destination. It MAY not always be this smooth, but generally the people handling the bags know when there are changes so they can retag the bags. --Jessica
