Also, when they still existed, Sotuhwest's senior fares were discounted Anytime fares, so they were the cheapest refundable fare one could buy, but they were not the cheapest. The cheapest was and is a Wanna Get Away fare.

Hi @ecurl ,
This is a community message board...and we love to read positive reviews of service provided by Southwest airlines!
To leave your review with Southwest, click on the blue Contact Us at the bottom of this page. After it opens, scroll down to Provide Feedback. And after it opens, click on Complements.
It's always helpful if you can provide the date of service and airport.
Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge the assistance this SWA employee gave you!!
They will also potentially ask for your confirmation number which helps validate what your pathway was as far as airports and aircraft during the day. Don't ever post that publicly, save it for the contact us form.

These are the current guidelines:
SWA's website indicates:
Any of the items listed below* may be checked in substitution of one piece of the free checked baggage allowance for you at no charge on a one-item-for-one-bag basis. If the item of sporting equipment exceeds 50 pounds in weight, excess weight charges will apply. If the item of sporting equipment exceeds 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width), excess size charges will not apply.
*Snow ski equipment.
Snow ski equipment, including skis or snowboards, ski boots, and ski poles are allowed, including one pair of skis or one snowboard, one set of poles, and one pair of ski/snowboard boots packed in a container(s) acceptable to Carrier. When substituting ski equipment for a free bag, we allow up to two bags (containing one set of snow skis, ski poles, and ski boots) to count as one item, even if they are packed and tagged separately. Snow ski equipment packed in a plastic bag will be transported only with a limited release of liability.

If your chosen flight says "1 stop" in the little gray box and has nothing written below it, then that flight only stops to let passengers on and off...and will continue on to its destination. Normally, you would stay seated...although on longer layovers you are sometimes allowed to get off. Once everyone is off and the plane is readied for the next flight, you are often given permission to change your seat to a better one.
Otherwise, under "1 stop" in the the gray box, it will say "Change planes XXX", which indicates you will get off at XXX and continue to your destination on another flight.
Safe travels!

For most of my day-trippers and one-nighters, with a little help of rolling up my clothing, I can get everything packed into a standard school-sized backpack. For my multi-day trips that require more clothing, I roll with the 50L Carofield backpack duffle (about20x13x8). This piece came complete with packing cubes and a separate compartment for the laptop that allowed me to make the most of the space. I roll the clothes up and pack 'em in the cubes.
Also, I place the 311 bag, laptop/electronics, and any other 'unusuals' in an easily accessible area in case TSA ever needed to look at it.
One key benefit of this Carofield backpack...If there's no overhead bin space next to a vacant window seat, this bag (believe it or not) does fit under the seat in front of me, even toward the front of the plane where the total width is slightly narrower. Also works for middle seat, but not for the aisle seat.
This basically allows me to pick any open window seat regardless of how full the overhead bins are. Plus, a side benefit is I can have access to the bag during all phases of the flight anytime above the 10k' mark regardless of whether the seatbelt light is on.

It seems the guidance on this has been updated. The weight requirement remains but the 62 inches in total size no longer results in excess size charges.

Not a silly question at all, it's great that you're planning ahead for your trip. Yes, you and your daughter are typically allowed a personal carry-on item each, like a purse and her stuffed lovey. As for liquids, you're correct about the 3.4 oz limit per bottle. I remember my first trip with my little one, and packing snacks and comfort items like her favorite toy made all the difference. And speaking of top experiences, creating memories with your child during this trip will definitely be at the top of your list.

Thank you so much for this information! I believe her car seat is FAA approved but I will double check the next time we go out. Since her dad will be with us I don’t think I have to worry about not being able to put both arm rests up but will still most likely put her by the window since that seems to be easiest.

SW changed the app and chat s now "hidden," but here's how you can find it.
click on "helpcenter" click on "day of travel" cliuck on "I want to fly standby or make a same day change"
and then a "chat" bubble will appear - allowing you to chat
I have to admit this is not a positive change.
Is the chat limited to those activities?
I really enjoyed the chat when it first rolled out and was staffed.
Then when the bot came in it was no longer able to handle my "deep dive" requests, I already know how to do most of the basic activities that it was trying to help with as a bot.
Twitter still my go-to.

The pet policy on Southwest Airlines is very clear...cats and dogs only. If you had followed the pet policy directions, you would have had to call to make your pet's reservation...and then would have found out that your chinchilla would not have been allowed to fly. I'm sorry you found out the hard way.
Specific to your case:
We welcome small, vaccinated domestic cats and dogs in an appropriate pet carrier in the cabin on domestic flights.
Space is limited, so we ask that you make a reservation in advance by calling us.

Doesn’t happen with other airlines departing same time & airport.
Only have had this policy enforced by Southwest.
It also does not explicitly state clothing is not allowed in the ski bag in their policy. Am I suppose to ski naked - does that not count as ski equipment?
stupid decision makers have now made me forever resent the name southwest

I would wrap the folded beach chair in beach towels and then pack it flat in a cardboard box. You can strategically make a cardboard box to custom fit it by using one or two other large cardboard boxes that are cut to size and securely taped together.
Write FRAGILE in red on all sides of the box.
To avoid excess size charges, the finished box will need to be equal to or less than 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width).
Also be aware that you will not be entitled to reimbursement or compensation if it is damaged, as this will be a situation where limited release of liability applies.

What is the latest time to check luggage?
Some of the smaller locations may allow a shorter window but no one would recommend that, and you gradually are less likely to travel with your luggage.
*Thank you PNS for that one time where it was about 15 minutes! That's an exception, not the rule...
I like @tappingmom1 's advice. Trying for at least an hour on most domestic flights but 45 minutes may be allowable.

Regardless of what others tell you, Southwest is responsible for your safety and wellbeing on board. While you may choose to report the activity, you are not required to do so.
You need to file a written report with both Southwest and law enforcement. Use your destination as the agency to report the behavior.
Since you are attributing the behavior to drinking, Southwest is serving the drinks so they are accountable.

It is nothing but a mess during boarding. The intent is small personal carry on items, not something to heavy that you need wheels.

I think carry on and personal will probably be our beat option since we aren't familiar with the layout of either airport. Saves us from getting lost trying to find our checked item!
