you have to make sure the points hit your RR account before Jan; So if your billing statement is the end of the month the purchases you make in DEC would typically hit your RR account a couple days after the month in Jan. These would not count toward 2025 companion pass, but would count toward 2026.

1) sign up for every promotion
2) book hotels through SW hotels when they offer nice points for booking (not specifically for CC points but points directly to your RR account and count toward companion fare)
3) register for RR dining... I don't use this too much but some may
4) Use for RR shopping... I also am not good about this but seems like you can get bonuses
5) Make sure to use if for the things you get extra points on (travel partners, transit, internet/phone/cable etc)

Have tried about 4 times and have only worked 1 time, so far even free has been frustrating. I have several more flights in the upcoming months I will see if I have any better luck.
So far:
- The search doesn't work for me in the app or on-line I have to get info from phone or "X";
- PDX 1st time, loved if was able to get snacks for flight right past security very easy; Flew in/out of midway and they did not have any places
- PDX 2nd time, got screen shot from X and one place said they don't take it; One place closed due to new airport remodel, one place was in a different terminal and only alcohol, was looking for food; Was not able to use it on the outbound flight
- DEN - again got screen shot of places from X; Double checked with them that places took pass and they confirmed; Walked way out of the way to go to the one in the terminal I was in (opposite direction of gate but had a lot of time) was planning on getting breakfast, got to the place after a long walk and it was closed, was 9:30 am; Checked back with PP Support on X and they said was supposed to be open at 6 am and I told them it was not;
Don't know what happened. Not able to use it again.
So out of 4 1 way trips, I have been able to use it 1 time for snacks;

I believe these have been recently removed from the chase app; I have upgrades vs early bird and chase used to have a tracker saying how many you have used and how many remain, but in the last month or so it disappeared. I have a ticket open with Chase on it, but have not gotten an answer. I suspect, with the announcement of the seat change, that they are planning on changing this feature since they are still tracking the $75 travel credit and have stopped tracking upgrades, but that is purely a guess.

Are you asking how to book a companion reservation? If so, once you become eligible for a companion pass you have to designate a person as your companion. You have to pick a companion and can only change it 3 times a year. The first time you should be able to add the companion in your RR account on the top right corner, but will only be able to do this once you have earned it. Once the companion is assigned, you go to your reservation and there will be a link that says add companion, you add it there. You can book your flight now in anticipation of adding it once you have earned it, then add the companion after you have qualified.

I have called Chase a couple times and been in phone over an hour; I finally got a supervisor who supposedly created a ticket on the issue, this was about a week ago. So far I have heard nothing back. When they renew is also confusing, I was just charge my annual fee but they don't renew until march. If you call them, they can tell you how many are left. It is hit and miss if you get someone right away who can figure it out though.

Another possibility is if you did a same day change then you probably would not get in the A group, but doesn't sound like this was the case.

Best to call customer support to take care of this, they will have to link the child reservation to your wife, the other option is if there isn’t a price difference you can cancel yours and rebook a new one for the child and link it to your wife yourself but if there is a price change I would call customer support

I have gotten many flights before 7 am and after 7 pm that were discounted. I know the miles were discounted, but not sure it was discounted as much when using money. I didn't need a special link. Try searching using points and see; I have not seen that discount in the last couple of weeks though.

RR are for the individual, you won't be able to use yours on his, and you probably figured out. It could cause issues at check in and boarding if he has any special designations such as A status and check in early, it could possibly impact you there as well; In addition it won't show up in his SW account to check in and get boarding pass, and won't earn miles. I had mistakenly assigned the wrong RR numbers to my daughters frequent passenger profiles in my account and this kept happening and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, then realized I needed to update the frequent flier profiles in my account. Customer service can definitely change it for them and I would do that before your flight.

Always make sure that there are at least two seats available on the flight you want to change to before canceling. It is rare but I canceled on time and didn’t do this and couldn’t add my companion back to the original flight because it was swept up, Usually only need to do this for popular flights and times but good to check. You can check by trying to book a flight with 9 seats and if it shows availability you know there is room, If looks like limited room you can call customer service and they can do it better, if plenty of room, very easy to cancel then rebook

I search fares every week for about 20 flights I have booked between now and end of the year; I can usually find one or two that get marked down each week; I had a flight booked RT Pdx to Ogg for Dec that had not dropped since I booked them a couple months ago in another sale, today I was refunded 10,000 pts; most these fares are for Tue, wed, Sat so need to be willing to fly on those days to get best deals; use the flexible travel calendar for your destination to give you a better idea of the are any deals available and keep checking

Do you have a chase card that you can transfer points to Southwest such as a Chase Sapphire? I find that to be the most economical way to "top off" points. Otherwise you can transfer between RR accounts but it costs; Look at the price between that and to purchase miles, I think they have a sale on points going on at the moment but don't know.
As for the minors, you always have to link minor accounts to an adult and their check in should be sequential with the adult they are linked to so you don't have to merge those. There isn't a way to merge unfortunately so you may want to look at booking the adults on the same reservation first then link the minors to it; I like using one way reservations, look to see if booking one way reservations helps you at all in terms of getting the most from the miles you have.

Sorry I meant to say not an Aisle because they are smaller in some cases; I think window would be best, middle you could have people trying to get past you to the restroom and could accidently step on carrier, but it should fit under the seat. I couldn't even fit a backpack in the aisle section last time I was on

It is a little late but you could purchase early bird check in to try get a better sport with the pets (not a window); If too late for early bird check in, you can upgrade the day of to position A1-15; It would be good to avoid a middle seat; Also, the space under the seat on the aisle seats on older planes are small, smaller than window or aisle so check that before picking your seat.

You were given incorrect info from SW customer service if he/she didn't look to see that you have business select:. If you purchased BS you should purchase early bird for your CP if they don't have their own status; This works the same for free upgrades, if you upgrade yourself A1-15, the CP doesn't get upgraded and would have the original position, though you could upgrade each separately.
This is the tiny print that you have to dig for from their website:
Upon check in, you and your Companion will receive sequential boarding positions except if you purchased a Business Select® fare or added the Companion after you had been assigned a boarding position. For Business Select fares, only the purchaser will receive an A1-A15 boarding position and the Companion will receive a boarding position based on whichever is applicable—time of check-in, A-List or A-List Preferred status, or EarlyBird Check-In®. If you purchased a Wanna Get Away®, Wanna Get Away Plus or an Anytime fare and either you or your Companion is an A-List or A-List Preferred Member, you will both receive reserved boarding positions

I finally had time to call Chase about this 1) to see how many I have left and 2) to see why it wasn't on the tracker.
Long story short, chase was able to give me my balance after talking to two different people and getting two different answers. I feel like the 2nd was the more likely answer based on the renewal dates I was seeing on the tracker for the $75 credit.
As for getting to the bottom of why the tracker was not there... I was told to call SW, then SW told be to call Chase back and then on the phone with Chase for 45 minutes, passed around to 5 different people then automatically hung up on when on hold with the 5th, I did not get an answer. I also contacted Chase's X customer support and they supposedly are trying to get to the bottom of it, but we shall see.
If anyone else can see their upgrade tracker or not please comment.

I think it would cancel him, can you book two one ways? I always book one ways on SW for a couple of reasons. If the price has gone up and it would cost to cancel and book two one ways, I would call SW customer service and have them take him off the segment that he won't be flying on.

I fly with mainly because of the companion fare, the great miles program and the flexibility (same day changes/standby, easy to rebook if prices drop, easy use of RR points, easy to earn RR points) I book flights frequently w/o knowing what time I need to be somewhere or what time I can return and these benefits are the most valuable to me. I am waiting to see how the seating works with same day changes and stand by. As of now, you are still able to get good seats if A-list or AP, even when you do a same day change because of the open seating and they let you board in between A and B groups. I fear this will change in the future.
