Not true. Under your analogy, anyone not under seven years of age is an adult. Therefore, a 7 year old can accompany a two year old and so on.
This is not true. I just called Southwest and had a call back on the "policy" people.

Let me try to explain this in very simple terms.
Even though 92% of the people "feel" like the fee is worth paying, the net result is that relatively few travelers, in total, select this service.
When you go to the airport, you rarely see anyone in the Pre line and yes, that could be because it is faster, but my observations show that few people use the service.
Checking further, it shows that the number of people who use this service is FAR BELOW what was expected, making it a flop. There are better ways to spend your money and I am not going to pay a fee to avoid a 15 minute or so wait in line. PERIOD.
The rest of you can shell out your money on anything that you choose. This board supports various views as long as they are within the community guidelines. My reference point is factual.
However, pay whatever fee you "feel" is best and I will keep my money in my pocket.

Southwest offers Family Boarding, which occurs after the “A” group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding.
Up to two adults traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding.
If the child and adults are all holding “A” boarding passes, they should board in their assigned boarding position rather than waiting for Family Boarding.
Customers may choose, but are not required, to purchase EarlyBird Check-In®. EarlyBird Check-In is an option giving you the convenience of automatic check-in before our traditional 24-hour check-in. While EarlyBird Check-In doesn't guarantee an “A” boarding position, you’ll have the benefit of an earlier boarding position, a better opportunity to select your preferred available seat, and earlier access to overhead bins.
Southwest's family boarding policy is crystal clear. The child has to be six years of age or younger, then the qualification is met for TWO ADULTS to board. Otherwise, you use open seating.
You knew of Southwest's open seating policy but it was probably a cheaper fare than another airline with assigned seats. Now you want to have assigned seats. It does not work that way.
There are too many people on this board who become frustrated with the abuse of family boarding and light up this board. While I am NOT one of those people (since I preboard), you must respect that the family boarding is not a tool for everyone to sit together. You have two children that meet that requirements, two that do not. Four of you can board together but not six.

My Wells Fargo card will comp me the Pre Check but I don't I care. The statistics of this program are dismal and basically a flop. Very few passengers, relative to the total, use and buy this service.
I live in the objective worlds, not the world that I "feel" is correct.

I have a trip coming up in January and I have already cancelled and rebooked the same rental car now six times (free cancellation and no money paid to reserve) and the price for the week went from $497 to $367 now.
Once you use points, I'm not sure if you are getting a good deal. I'm already saving $130 on the rental car by simply watching the prices.
I use points to fly only, not for anything else.

That is why there are relatively few travelers that buy the Pre Check since it is not that big a deal to go through the line and you keep your money in your pocket.
I don't pay to use the Express Lane here in Florida either. Not worth it.

Interestingly enough, I called Southwest today and waited for a call back for reservations. I asked a very general question whether or not during a booking over the phone whether it was POSSIBLE to adjust the price.
The answer is YES, it is, but not what they endorse. It is not "let's make a deal" but it is possible.

I am sympathetic to your situation and someone should answer the phone, or disable the phone number. Having a phone number invites a call and from a legal perspective, you reasonably expected someone to service the inbound call.
From a practical perspective, you should protect your data from loss. If the computer crashed, you'd have those items lost as well.
Consider a backup source so you always have a copy. I agree on writing to the CEO of Southwest as I have done a few times and ALWAYS got the issue resolved to my satisfaction.

Southwest allows their people to exercise a certain amount of discretion. If the phone agent believes that making a change is in everyone's best interest, then it happens.
I recently had a piece of luggage that was overweight and there was no fee charged for the 54 lb bag. The check in agent made the decision based upon my history with Southwest.

On my last flight, the FA clarified during the announcement that you could not consume alcohol that "suddenly materialized" in the overhead compartment versus some that "may have been brought on board".
They thought it was funny but this board does not always see the humor.
Maybe it is time for a little song?

The same thing could have happened if you traveled by car. Accident, weather, road closure, unusually heavy traffic, etc. It happens.
I prefer to write to the CEO whenever I have a substandard experience. You will likely receive a LUV voucher in apology for your mishap.

Southwest has a rule against consuming alcoholic beverages that you "may have brought on board", however, there is no rule, per se, for alcoholic beverages that "suddenly materialize" in the overhead compartment.

Although it is "neat" to have all of these features, my suggestion is to always use the APP for Southwest and forget the 3rd, 4th and 5th party crossovers as anything that can go wrong does go wrong.

I have been told by gate agents, check in agents and also FAs that seats cannot be saved due to the open seating policy. Southwest doesn't have a policy about saving seats because it is an open seating policy.
For the record, there is no policy regulating the planting of a tomato in the seat either.
If the seat is unoccupied, you sit in it. If there is an altercation, then let the person beside you summons the FA and pitch a fit. In the meantime, you sit there calm and collected.
For me, I usually preboard but I do understand your concerns.

First, let's be honest and candid here. Southwest is NOT a family, it is a publicly traded corporation. You are asking to become an employee.
Given the size of Southwest, there are hundreds of applications daily and you have to know that yours is one of THOUSANDS for the role.

Southwest is not a public utility and is in the business of making a profit. The shareholders expect to be rewarded for their investment
The extra fee is to enrich the company. Fee transparency is not poverty.
Supply versus demand. You want to take your pet, they charge a fee for doing so.

Another thing to consider is that with Hotels.com every 10th night earns you a credit equal to the average spent before taxes. So, even if the price is equal, I find that the Southwest point system does not return an appropriate rebate compared to others.
