What position and what station are you? I'll be out there for Ops training, but have done ramp training at TOPS before too.
We'll get flight and hotel info as we get closer to the date. But welcome aboard! You'll have a good time, just be sure to be on time and be focused. It's all easy, but people get sent home often for various reasons.

Hi Brian,
Workday is a part of the SWAlife website. This is a portal for SWA employees only to access email, check paystubs, benefits, tasks due, and pretty much everything else that is work related.
During your first week, you will be set up with your email address and password to gain access.
I hope that helps.

Hi Chris, just a quick note: I'm about 3 months in (ramp) and we just now got email about USPS clearance. We don't even handle mail here at LGB but apparently its required for all ramp agents.

@wysey79,
Did you start in classroom training today or on the job training?
I'm off today, so I was curious if we had new hires on the ramp today.

When was the last time you inquired about status? I am a ramp agent at LGB and I believe it's just a matter of having enough trainers and scheduling. I heard we have some new hires coming in but I don't know when.
I suggest you email again so that you can at least get a start date.
Let me know if I can help with anything. It's a great station to work at.

Congrats and welcome aboard! More than likely, your emails from SWA will get quiet. Just gotta be patient and you will probably receive instructions about your first day right before you start. For me, it was all computer based training the first week, then two weeks OJT, then Dallas for a week, the two more weeks OJT before I got signed off by my instructor. Hope that info helps.

We went into downtown neighborhood of Deep Ellum and had some good BBQ. I have family there so I got to see Mom and brother. I think the best thing about the trip is how our group bonded and that will make us all better teammates at work.

We heard rumors about it and guy from another station had the code. Maybe you can hit up your sup to see if you can be reimbursed. We had 14 rides available for each of us.

So here's a quick review of ramp training at TOPS. A group of 16 of us from LGB went last week.
When you land, a large bus will be waiting for you to take you to the Crowne Plaza Market Center. Check in was pretty quick and easy and the rooms were totally adequate.
Day one was onboarding and free breakfast at the hotel was really good and ready early. We usually got on the bus by 645am.
They divided us into two classes for Ramp and our instructors were really engaging and we learned a lot quickly.
On day one, you'll get your visa card to use for food. Plenty of food options at TOPS. You'll do a self guided tour on Monday or you can just explore on your own. Lots of cool stuff to see.
Thursday will be your tests and you'll do just fine if you pay attention and take plenty of notes.
We had a code for local Lyft rides so be sure to ask about that.
Most important!!!!, be on time (early).
It's possible to be sent home if you're not to class on time.
I'm glad I went and I learned quite a bit more than I have on OJT.

By the way, your first week should be all onboarding and computer based training. Don't worry, you won't get put in the bin that week. But be prepared to hit the ground running during OJT.
Good luck and welcome aboard!
Feel free to ask any questions, we're here to help.

Thank you for the information. You've been really helpful, and I'm glad you had a great experience. We have a large group from LGB heading out on Sunday. BTW, my OJT has been going great. Lots of responsibilities already, but I feel I'm being trained well. Pusback is my favorite.

@biggcatt480,
When did you apply? Usually takes a few days for them to review and schedule you for a virtual interview.
I'm at LGB, so let me know what happens.

You're ok. Same thing happened to me. They sent my info late Friday afternoon for a Monday start. I know its hard to be patient, but they won't let you fall through the cracks.
I suggest just being prepared on your end. Clothes ready, food prep, car gassed up, etc. Study the codes some more if you have time.
Relax and enjoy the weekend, it's gonna get busy soon enough.
Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes.

@TNuts, the diversity at Southwest is awesome. I'm in your same age bracket and there are a few rampers on our crew older than me. A good attitude and ability to do the job is what's most important. I noticed the same thing with the other positions. All different types of people but all with the same goal.

Yes, all training is paid. Your first week should be all computer based training. Then you'll probably do two weeks OJT. I'm currently in week three and I go to Dallas this Sunday.

@TPArampgirl, you're so right about the waiting. It's kinda funny now being on the other side of it.
BTW, I have bruises on top of my bruises, but I'm digging it so far. Didn't think I'd be doing so much so quickly.

I'm curious as to why you'll only be there one day. Depending on your position, you should be in Dallas for a few days.

Did you get this study guide for the codes that I posted? I doubt the test is multiple choice so this should help you.

Thanks for the update. So glad to hear how welcoming everyone is, and I gotta figure that's going to be the same for me next week @ LGB. I literally watch the planes pass my over my house all day long. Can't wait to be out there.
