I notice SW employees pre boarding often as I fly SW 8 to 10 times a month and very much agree it sends the wrong message to paying customers. When I asked an employee why this is permitted they said it’s “contractual”. I agree that employees need to get on plane like rest of us (only if their job depends on it, not to get home) but not preboarding. If they get a ticket, they are guaranteed a seat and wait in line like rest of us.
Throughout my life my employers have required employees to park furthest from the entrance for a simple reason: customers should be inconvenienced last, not first.
I encourage SW to examine this practice and do what is best for the customer.

So employee parking at Burbank is $17 every time we have a shift and they only deposit us $50 a month for parking??? That would be $85 per week assuming you work M-F

Please excuse @floridaguy for being less than helpful, that's just how he is. In an attempt to actually be helpful and answer your question I would suggest you look on SWA Life as you'll have more employees there. This Community is primarily a customer to customer forum.

My recommendation, get your A&P first. The Avionics tech test mainly focuses on the electrical side. I went to the local community college here in Tampa and was able to take my test on campus. 🙂

Do a search on the Careers page based on location. It’ll show you all available postings, if any. Good luck!

They might not have processed you into the system yet and thus you may not have your SWA credentials. Once you get an email with login information from onboarding@wnco.com, you should be able to access Workday and complete any pre-employment tasks assigned to you.

Have fun! If you want a nice fancy lunch or dinner, check out Dakota's Steakhouse downtown. It was the best steak ever. Fancy and $$$ but well worth it.

By the way, your first week should be all onboarding and computer based training. Don't worry, you won't get put in the bin that week. But be prepared to hit the ground running during OJT.
Good luck and welcome aboard!

@biggcatt480,
When did you apply? Usually takes a few days for them to review and schedule you for a virtual interview.
I'm at LGB, so let me know what happens.

It's good to see another old guy on the ramp, lol! There are some older rampers out where I work and we all get along and tease them young guys/gals. We had a bunch of new employees get hired, which gave me some seniority and took my name off the bottom of the mando list. I enjoy working outside and around planes again! I had previous ramp experience which helped out when I got back outside for training. I am glad I picked SWA over some other companies that were hiring at my airport.

In your email it states, at the latest, the Friday before your start date you will have the info you need. You just have to keep being patient. In the meantime, continue to prep for that city code test!

You need to know the codes. If I say Phoenix, you say PHX. If I say New Orleans, you say MSY. If I say ISP, you say Long Island. If I say LGA, you say LaGuardia. You just have to know them everywhich way. Idk how else to explain they need to be memorized and recalled in any order. Use this quizlet and hit the shuffle button. That's the best way to be prepared. It's what I use, and people in my class use it also.
