Spouse flew to RSW today with a change of plane in MCO. This was a ticket bought for today, several weeks ago. On time arrival and got her checked bag. Your mileage may vary. I consider us lucky.

are you thinking of the 717? SW sold those post-merger.

Wow, for the sake of everyone I hope they can get this resolved soon. But as of right now SWA has cancelled 62% of its flights today. Second of the U.S. carriers is Delta with 8%. This is per Flightaware.com.

>>The app told me I was re-booked - but gave no info!? No contact whatsoever with new flight info. That last text directed me on-line to change my reservation myself. Problem being the on-line system wouldn't let me - said my flight was in the past even tho showing canceled.<<
This exact thing happened to me in July, and even when I went to the airport (RSW) the next day and asked a ticket agent, she was as flummoxed as I was. There is something wrong with that app/interface.

I flew SWA to RSW last month, one way, and flew DL on the return for my scheduling convenience. One thing I noticed about DL, and this was a first for me, is that anytime your bag gets moved somewhere you get a message in the DL app. In other words, when I made my connection in ATL, I was sitting on the plane and got a pop up on my watch to tell me my bag had been loaded. Of course, DL charges for checked luggage so that is different than SWA, but worth noting the availability of the tech.

We had this experience in July. SWA cancelled our flight (inbound plane was delayed nearly 6 hours due to weather at another airport) and automatically rebooked us for 3 days out. We could not wait that long so bought tickets on DL to get home the next day. I had to call SWA (also an issue) and get someone to refund the rebooked flights we obviously cancelled once we found another way home. Most of SWA's ticketing practices seem reasonable to me, but not this practice. It should be an automatic refund when SWA cancels a flight and customer is merely the bystander.

There are a few (ironically named) "Top Contributors" on this board who seem to delight in gaslighting folks who report on bad experiences with the airline.

We had a similar experience recently. SWA cancelled our flight, rebooked us for three days later, which was not possible for us so we bought tickets on Delta, then cancelled the rebooked SWA flight. The system issued flight credit so I emailed and asked for a refund instead, which was granted. One of us was issued $100 in travel credit after complaining about the experience.

FWIW I had a friend whose bag was stolen from baggage claim at SeaTac. No way I would leave a bag. As others have pointed out, this is not an accommodation to expect from an airline. Plenty of hotels nearby.

ah, ad hominem is one way to go I suppose. Strawman argument is another. No one said SWA is unaffected by industry wide problems. Enjoy your flights.

"do a bit of research." Ah, sure thing. OP was asking about SWA, not the industry in general. I think it is well known the entire passenger airline business is in crisis right now. I've been flying SWA for 24 years, it has been my primary "go-to" for more than 20, and my opinion was based on my experiences and research. SWA was once outstanding, with a unique business model. Now it is just another big airline.

All the airlines are struggling but having been affected by a SWA cancellation in the past week, and after taking a look at some online resources, I think the main problem with SWA is its business model (low fares, quick turns, maximum use of aircraft during a day) has kind of fallen apart during this period of very high demand and thin crew resources. IMO they will continue to disappoint unless the company trims its schedule to be better in line with available resources. Also, one thing I had not thought about (but read about it on a pilot message board) is the introduction of the larger models of the 737, e.g. 737-800, affected the ability to due quick turns due to more people and luggage.

Yes, if we had been flying from an airport like BWI or another crew base I might have done that, but there is no way I was going to RSW 6+ hours in advance of a flight that was rescheduled for 2AM. I should have trusted my intuition and never gone to the airport at all, in this instance. FWIW, when we left RSW yesterday (on Delta, since SWA had rebooked one of us for Tuesday, 3 days from original departure) I stopped by the SW ticket counter and the friendly agent there tried to look up my record and was as puzzled as me. She was able to refund my points, but agreed I had not been rebooked, despite automated messaging from the airline that claimed otherwise.

Long time customer who books online or through the app. I have always been satisfied. But what has happened to SWA? I booked a r/t with points. Was to return yesterday. Aircraft got behind early in the day due to weather and a diversion. Fine, it happens. But even though the aircraft was running more than 5 hours behind, the airline kept changing the departure time from KRSW, ultimately setting it for 2:02am (instead of 8:30pm). We set out to airport after 10pm and were nearly there when a text arrived; flight cancelled. Our Uber driver returned us to our starting point ($70 fare). OK, fine, I'm cool, things happen. But then I get messages from SWA stating my "trip has been modified" but they do not show a new flight, and when I use the confirmation number on the website it says "this trip occurred in the past." I am using the link SWA texted to me!!!! Come on man! My family member on the same trip (different reservation, paid with $) was automatically re-booked for THREE DAYS out, with a very poor itinerary. We have cancelled her reservation and both booked tickets on Delta because we need to get home tomorrow, but why did my information just disappear into the mist?
