I recently become A list member first time. I did check in this morning exactly 24 hr ago and I got A23 position.
My question is do I need to check in exactly at 24 hours? Or even if I miss now southwest will auto check in for me as A list member?
Thanks
Hola!
Welcome to A-List. An A-List and ALP benefit is Priority Boarding which includes automatic check-in at 36 hours provided you booked your flight more than 36 hour prior, and your boarding position will be available anytime at or after the 24-hour mark. No need as an A-List to set an alarm to check in exactly at 24 hours to secure your boarding position, but be sure to go through the process anytime after the T24 mark to get your boarding pass.
Hope this helps and enjoy your A-List perks.

While there was a lot of buzz when Southwest added their flights to Google Flights, it looks like they just quietly added their flights to Kayak as well. I did some searches and Southwest fares are now showing on Kayak.
Thanks for the tip!
Upon doing a demo search for a weekday SAN-LAS trip for October, SW posts $59 flights. I noticed a couple of the other guys appear to price-match this with their lowest product tier but the competition excludes no-fee ticket changes (Difference-in-fare applies to SW ticket changes) and two checked bags, two of SW's staples:
It appears Kayak does a good job of properly disclosing this with the icons below the "View Deal" button. Their basic fare products also don't allow for seat selection (they are simply assigned).

Wouldn't it be great to know your lifetime miles flown on Southwest? I think it would be really cool if we could see that as a feature on our profiles as Rapid Rewards members.
Hello-
Interesting suggestion. I have a travel log and agree it would be cool to know how many total actual miles I flew aboard the LUV airline since I started flying with Southwest. However, SW is currently devoting its resources to implementing Assigned Seating and a bunch of other enhancements for 2025 and I'm not sure if they'll even be able to consider this suggestion until after the 2025 launch.
Either way, I would give SW Customer Service an email or DM via Twitter/X and submit your comment there so that it reaches the proper staff personnel as this forum is customer-to-customer: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/email-us
As for now, this may help:
For your flights taken within the last 18 months, log in to your RR profile via the SW website (full desktop version), go to My Account.
In the blue header area, click on "Trips"
Click on the white "Past" button to view your trip history.
As mentioned, 18 months worth of travel is available via the self-serve tools. If you need history beyond the 18-month marker, give SW Customer Service an email: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/email-us
The next step will involve some work but once you have your entire flight history, calculate the miles in between your city pairs and add them up. FlightAware may be your best resource to determine a route's actual distance in lieu of the direct (flying-crow) miles.
Hope this helps!

Hello!
Nice suggestion to ensure those with special needs diets are accommodated, especially aboard longer flights, except I would have the gluten-free snack option be a complimentary substitute to the pretzels or Remy Grahams. Feel free to let SW know directly in an email or DM via Twitter/X so that your suggestion will reach the proper staff as this forum is customer-to-customer and may not reach the proper staff personnel: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/email-us
For now, I would continue to pack and bring your own food if you have special dietary needs. SW currently offers premium drinks and I would support SW offering gluten-free snack substitutes and premium protein-based food for sale too.

I would like to see Southwest recognize A-List Preferred members by allowing them to board in between A and B groups, and before A-List members. I don't have a problem boarding after military personnel and such, just thought this would be a good incentive/recognition.
Hello!
As a fellow member of SW's elite club, I've used the "A61" benefit a few times after using the Same Day Flight Change. The ALP's/A-List's/Business Select who don't have "A" typically board ahead of Family Boarding and Military after the "A" group and before "B". I typically observe anywhere from 3-7 passengers in this group combined whereas Family Boarding usually has high demand.
Ordinarily, suggestions like these should be relayed directly to Southwest Customer service as it may not reach the proper staff on this message board; however with the pending Seating Policy changes forthcoming for 2025, I don't think SW will be able to review a universal policy change to board any "A61" ALP's ahead of A-List as I assume SW's focus is to implement and execute the Assigned Seating policy and that includes looking at passenger comments and providing additional details and announcements on all loyalty program benefits going fwd.
However, if you have any suggestions related to the Assigned Seating Policy announcement and ALP, feel free to let SW know as they are still working out the details of implementation. It may be possible as SW works out the final details of the policy that ALP's may get first picks of any unsold Extra Leg Room Seating ahead of A-List but after Business Select, or get an X-amount of free or discounted seating upgrades per year. Don't know what's in store...Those are my guesses but I believe there will be some good benefit trade-offs for ALP's and A-List in relation to the Assigned Seating.

Tried redeem points for hotels at https://hotels.redeemrapidrewards.com/ a few months ago and it worked. While in this July, suddenly I’m unable to make any reservation using the points - it simply says "unable to complete this transaction".
Called the customer service a few times over the phone, and each time I’m just told that "relevance team is validating my account, or investigating if there are any issues", nothing they could do but keep waiting - which is not going anywhere. Pretty upset, looks they could hold this up forever.
Any suggestion how to address it? TIA!
Hello!
I would try booking again but through a different network or device.
However, it's possible the Agoda Rocket Travel booking engine that powers SW's Redeem Points for Hotels may be experiencing some technical or compatibility trouble as I too have been experiencing some issues. I'm not stating that as a fact but this is an educated guess as I brought up this website not too long ago to price check locations and ran into the error "Unfortunately, availability at this hotel changed when we reached out to confirm the reservation details" each time upon trying to look at the point redemption rates for multiple hotels. Logged on just now and got the same results when doing a demo search for a few locations near LAS for October.
Its sister website RocketMiles that basically emulates the Southwest Hotels Points Plus Property booking portal uses the same engine and I currently have an open action item with them in regards to being unable to relink my SW RR profile with their service...Trying to relink my RR profile via the website instantly brings a "Failed to add RR Account" error.
Personally, I've found that the point value trade-off that I get from SW's Redeem Points for Hotels portal hasn't been the best for me. Although there may be deals out there that I have yet to see, there have been times where I've been quoted rates that are nearly double to what I would have paid for in cash relative to the current point value of redeeming points for flights:
https://community.southwest.com/t5/Rapid-Rewards/May-24-Southwest-Hotels-Trip-Report-Redeem-Rapid-Rewards-Points/m-p/172312/highlight/true#M12135
For my hotel needs, I've mainly utilized the Southwest Hotels Points Plus properties that is powered through Booking.com. That service has been stable for me where I pay cash for the room (I go for the Free Cancellation options). I'll often get a huge chunk of points that I can use for flights given the generous trade-off. If you're open to paying cash for your hotel and using the awarded points for flights (which usually posts within a week after the stay), I would explore SW Hotels Plus Points properties as an alternative:
www.southwesthotels.com
If you want to try SW Redeem Points for Hotels again, I would try connecting via another network or device to see if you have any luck. If not, try contacting SW Customer Service again but via a Twitter/X DM as this booking site doesn't appear to publish contact info. The social media platform seems to have good response times and high accountability standards.
Hope this helps!

Hello! Here's the official TSA rule which cites current federal law:
Marijuana and certain cannabis infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA. TSA officers are required to report any suspected violations of law to local, state or federal authorities.
TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/medical-marijuana
As the other posters have mentioned, TSA will not actively look for illegal drugs as focus is on looking for potential threats to flight and passenger safety such as illegal weapons. However, by rule if TSA finds illegal substance during screening, they will refer the matter to law enforcement which could include the federal level. That could very well happen if your carry-on gets pulled for either a random or flagged secondary screening.
I will never advise nor recommend to anybody to break the law even if enforcement appears lax or if "everybody's doing it". Thus if the oil exceeds 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis and is not FDA approved, I will not advise that you travel with it.

Hola Everybody!
SoCalFlyer97's Train-to-Planes post series hit a weeklong delay on the tarmac (ok, not really) due to the breaking news from last week regarding the SW assigned seating policy and the resulting public reactions that flooded this forum with all kinds of questions and comments thanks to the widespread national media coverage. I felt it was best to hold off on continuing this series until the reactions from the news slowed down. I've posted my initial response on the updated seating policy last week:
https://community.southwest.com/t5/Travel-Policies/SoCalFlyer97-s-Thoughts-on-the-SW-Enhancements-Media-Release/m-p/175005
Responses continue to flow in to this date, but have slowed down. Thus, let us continue the Trains-to-Planes series of how one can integrate a combination of both long-distance rail and air travel into trips...
Our next leg of this journey takes us into LA Union Station where I departed to AUS via the Texas Eagle. LAUS is a historic landmark and the busiest passenger train hub in the Western USA. I can describe the rail depot this way: Imagine walking through a busy Southwest Airlines airport concourse but instead of passing through a contemporary airport terminal interior surrounded by airline gates, modern way-finder signs and scores of flat-screen status monitors, one is greeted with everyday travelers inside a ground transit hub with 85 years of history.
This Spanish Mission ground transportation terminal offers a grand supply of transportation options, Art Deco, staffed check-in counters,...and yes, concessions too.
From my last post, I spent the afternoon in Santa Monica followed by visiting family in Downtown before taking the Metro Rail system into LAUS. I arrived at about 8pm, two hours prior to my scheduled departure aboard the Texas Eagle. Yes, train stations have suggested arrival times too. Amtrak recommends an absolute minimum of 30-minutes prior but for a long-haul trip such as this one, I figured I better show up at the two-hour mark.
And I was glad I did because, there was no "hurried" feeling during check-in. Plus, Amtrak had the train ready to go on the platform and opened the doors for boarding at about 8:45pm, 75 minutes prior to the 10pm departure. That meant my time spent waiting in the station was less than an hour even though I showed up 2 hours prior.
So anyway, I arrived at LAUS shortly after 8pm via the Metro Red B-Line subway from Downtown. As I mentioned, LAUS is LA's version of the Grand Central Terminal, with numerous ground transport connections, filled with all kinds of amenities.
Let's start with the dining options: LAUS has a nice share of both popular chain and independent outlets. It has a Subway (excuse the pun), a Starbucks Coffee, and a Wetzel's Pretzels. It also features the local Trimana Fresh Food Market which looks like a convenience store at first but it also offers freshly cooked hot food on the go. LAUS' feature dining spot is the TRAXX Bar & Restaurant; those looking to add some "class" to their train journey should check this place out.
LAUS is also home to the historic Harvey House restaurant building located south of the main station concourse; this original 1939 Southwestern Art Deco designed dining spot was in operations 'til 1967. It wasn't until 2018 when Imperial Western Beer Co. and The Streamliner came in to resume dining and hangouts in this historic spot. But the brewry shut down after 5 years of operations at the end of 2023, and the restaurant site sits empty once again.
As mentioned, numerous ground transportation providers serve LAUS: Amtrak, SoCal's regional rail provider Metrolink, LA County's public bus and rail system which includes the Red and Purple Line subways, Greyhound, and the nonstop FlyAway bus into all LAX terminals. The station also features Uber/Lyft rideshare, a taxi area, a ZipCar area, and some limited car rental services. It really does resemble a small airport terminal but for ground public transit with no TSA checkpoints.
Despite the fact that no uniformed TSA agent is to found, local law enforcement is robust which makes LAUS a safe place. The depot has three main waiting areas. Within its main concourse lies its famous high-celling wait lobby with its large and comfortable leather chairs and LED train status monitors. But don't even think about loitering in this area. Station security has the seats fenced off and will let you in to sit down only if you hold a valid train ticket due to depart within the next two hours--a small miniature "airside"-like area reserved only for ticketed passengers.
The second waiting area located on the east side of the station near the bus plaza has benched seating open to anyone either in the terminal or at the bus platforms outside. Those waiting for the Greyhound or FlyAway bus into LAX will typically wait there. Guards do enforce the no-loitering rules but one can sit down to wait for their bus without having to flash a ticket. Consider this area public "landside"-like seating.
The last waiting area is a little-known lounge in the station which I utilized while waiting for my Texas Eagle train. The LAUS Metropolitan Lounge is reserved exclusively for Amtrak passengers holding a Sleeping Car ticket, any Amtrak ticketed passenger who has Select Plus or Select Executive status with the railroad, or an Amtrak passenger holding a Station Lounge Pass. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Business Class passengers with a valid ticket can also access the lounge for the day for a $25 fee.
The lounge features free non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, comfortable private seating and restrooms, a display case documenting Amtrak's history, and free WiFi. This is also the location where Sleeping Car Passengers can check-in for their trains. Amtrak staff attendants are also available to assist with reservations or other needs.
LAUS' Metropolitan Lounge in no way compares to the high standard of airport lounges in terms of food, amenities and ambience but it kind of mimics a typical continental breakfast room found in most suburban hotels and provided an overall positive environment. One thing is for sure: The clientele waiting at this lounge is much different and more relaxed than what one sees at a typical airport gate. It's a great place to meet your fellow passengers. Up next, we'll ride aboard the Texas Eagle into AUS that has a little bit of both assigned and open seating, followed by a couple of Southwest Hotel stays; then later, my Southwest flight experience from AUS back into SoCal via LAX. Stay tuned!

Greetings-
As a fellow traveler, sorry to hear this happened to you. The rep's "wrong email" claim was interesting...What doesn't stack is the fact that you stated you received the original booking confirmation email, the other follow up emails related to your flight, but not the flight change notice.
I think that the "wrong email" statement from the rep was a misstatement as a SW initiated flight change notice goes the same email address for the booking and you received the other emails.
When SW initiates a flight change, the subject line of the email notice reads "A change was made to your (Date) trip". I would search your email for these keywords and doublecheck to ensure this notice wasn't missed or accidently deleted.
Note that whenever SW initiates such a change and the rebooked itinerary doesn't work out, you'll be able to change your flight dates and/or time between the two city pairs by up to fourteen days from your original travel date at no difference in fare. These changes can typically be done via the self serve tools but a rep may be able to assist you if you have preferred layover city that you want to use.
As you already contacted SW customer service on this and they issued you a voucher, it looks like you done what you can but I think their reasoning of the missed email was misstated. If you know for sure that you didn't receive the notice about your changed flight, I would reach out again, but restate that you received all emails except for the flight change email and that you believe the "wrong email" response was a misstatement given the fact that you received the other emails. That should prompt SW staff to review this further to confirm if there were any issues on their end.
A side note: Several weeks ago, there was an issue of SW initiating changes to traveler's flights in response to Boeing delivery issues but the self serve Change Flight module didn't allow changes without paying a difference in fare which required travers desiring to rebook their flights to go through a Rep. Not sure if this issue and yours were related; thus suggest reaching out again.
Hope this helps!

Hello!
Here's my suggestions:
1. Double check to make sure your Mac iOS and Chrome are all up-to-date.
2. If that's already done, try logging in via an incognito session. This will help determine if a faulty cache is the cause.
3. If the page still fails to load, double check whether you're using a VPN or a private relay service as that could interfere with the page loading correctly.
4. If you're not using any VPN/Private Relay, it's possible there's a technical glitch somewhere; at that point, I would continue to use Safari and report the symptom and your computer/Chrome browser specs to SW Customer Service in an e-mail; they should be able to fwd your message to IT so they can review:

We are traveling with 4 kids and are wanting to bring our Jeep Wrangler Deluxe 4 Seater Stroller Wagon with us to the airport but are worried about the size. Here is the information on the wagon we have. Would we still be able to check it at the gate?
Greetings!
That's a nice stroller wagon!
Ordinarily, such wagons are treated as strollers which can be brought through TSA (either folded and ran through the X-Ray machine if it fits or hand-inspected) and then checked at the gate with the optional arrangement to have it picked up on the jet bridge upon arrival at your destination. It would not count against the two free checked bags per passenger.
The wagon you refer to certainly appears huge, has a bunch of nice add-on's, and has very high folding dimensions. As this forum is customer-to-customer, I would contact SW Customer Service directly to be sure. I think as long as no separate items are "packed" within the wagon during transport, you should be fine but I would confirm. Email inquiries to them usually takes a few days for a reply, I would instead contact them by sending a DM via Twitter/X with a picture of the wagon, link to the Amazon page, the folded dimensions, and weight.
If they affirm that this wagon is a go, I would also plan on bringing some kind of protective cover for it.

Since 2020 in response to a major federal court case, one can take photos and video in the public outside areas of the port as long it doesn't interfere with the port operations. The pathway leading to the turnstile area would be considered public as one can be in this area on the USA side but decide not to cross the border and turn around. Plus there are benches and drinking fountains along this pathway.
Still no photos/videos allowed within any car/pedestrian inspection areas or any non-public areas that are restricted to people crossing the border.

Greetings Community Southwest:
A few weeks ago, I had a business trip in Mexico that involved walking across the land border south of San Diego into Tijuana. I felt compelled to share my experiences of using a key perk of Global Entry for members who are approved for the program as U.S. citizens, LPR's, or Mexican nationals who have a valid and activated Global Entry ID card: Using the Pedestrian Global Entry/SENTRI lanes when returning to the USA by foot.
The San Ysidro Land Port of Entry and CBP Border Inspection Station is located about 45 minutes away from SAN airport via a ride aboard MTS Route 992 and the San Diego Trolley. As one walks from the trolley station to the border from the USA headed southbound, the overall ambience certainly resembles a maximum security prison; there are secured walls and security cameras everywhere. At the border, one is greeted not with shiny glass exit doors found at most airports, but windowless steel barred doors and one-way turnstiles that clank loudly as one leaves the USA and into Mexico:
Despite the rather unwelcoming appearance of departing the USA into Mexico, many folks use this port and as the busiest of its kind in the western hemisphere, it links SAN airport to Tijuana and Mexican destinations beyond. My tips on using the Global Entry perk also work for the CBX and Otay Mesa crossings too with CBX being much more inviting but my focus will be on the San Ysidro crossing.
As Global Entry members are well aware, on top of having both expedited CBP processing from an international flight and TSA PreCheck benefits, the membership card allows for expedited foot and car entry (with prior vehicle registration/approval) back into the United States via the northbound SENTRI lanes from Mexico and southbound NEXUS lanes from Canada.
https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/card
The CBP clearly states that all program rules for SENTRI are to be followed when using this Global Entry benefit at a land border crossing from Mexico which I'll cover in a moment.
To be clear, the benefit does not grant NEXUS benefits for entry into Canada nor expedited processing into Mexico. However, one key means for U.S Citizens to speed up INM Passport Control processing when entering Mexico via San Ysidro (or any other land border crossing including CBX by foot) is to fill out and print the required FMM entry permit paperwork ahead of time before going through the Mexican Passport Control at the port of entry:
https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html
I am aware the required FMM currently applies to land border crossings and not air travel into Mexico but having the paperwork ready to go can help expedite entry. Once cleared passport control, clearing Mexican customs involves placing all bags through an X-Ray machine with random pat-down searches.
My trip for business involved using this busiest land border crossing on this side of the world, the largest port in the San Diego sector. Crossing into Mexico can be accomplished in a matter of a few minutes at most times. It is coming back into the USA that makes this crossing infamous with often very excessive and long standing lines to cross the border with very few amenities if one is not a CBP-approved Trusted Traveler.
Trust me on that, waiting for hours in line to cross the border from Mexico back into the USA can make a long layover at a regular airport gate look like a first class lounge.
Whenever I'm conducting business needs down south, I always cross by foot or as a passenger with another CBP-approved Trusted Traveler member; I never drive in myself. Co-workers on the Mexico side handle local ground transport; otherwise my last resort is Uber. For this trip, I walked and a colleague on the Mexico side picked me up.
Took care of business for the day. Unlike my SW Airlines trip reports, I don't do a whole bunch of sightseeing down south as most of the day is work-related, but will share that I had a 2-course lunch with a co-worker with chips and the complimentary beverage of the day at a local restaurant. The bill for the two of us added up to $300 pesos which was only $18 USD.
When the day was over, it was time to return to the USA.
Crossing through a CBP Border Inspection Station by land differs from doing so at the airport. At the time of this writing, for US citizens, there was no mobile feature nor CBP Global Entry kiosks to pre-report a land crossing entry into the USA as a pre-screened Trusted Traveler. Processing is done when one reports to an officer at Passport Control.
So how does one use Global Entry benefits via the SENTRI pedestrian lane for expedited processing? How does one navigate around the standard screening line?
As mentioned, CBP states that all Rules and Regulations pertaining to SENTRI must be followed when using Global Entry via a SENTRI lane; however, at the time of this post, I was not able to locate any official public website that documents these rules. On a prior business trip down south, I made a special trip to the Global Entry/SENTRI Enrollment center and asked the guard who was watching the door and managing check-in's for this document and was able to get a copy of it.
Stack Exchange user "Midavalo" also posted scans of a 2018 version of this doc: https://travel.stackexchange.com/questions/169275/what-am-i-supposed-to-declare-when-driving-from-mexico-to-the-united-states-as
So here's a run-down of the rules to use the pedestrian SENTRI lanes as a Global Entry perk. Some notes before you go...
1. You must be in possession of your valid and activated Trusted Traveler Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS border crossing card. CBP does a good job at making this point very clear.
2. The SENTRI lane cannot be used for commercial purposes: No imports of commercial goods or items that will be sold, or large quantities of items are allowed via this lane. If my company that I'm doing business with has product that needs to be imported into the USA, it goes through our company's import/export process and is shipped across separately; I'm not allowed to walk it across via SENTRI.
3. Do not bring the personal belongings of anybody else through the SENTRI lanes. All items brought across must be for your use.
4. If you don't have a vehicle registered under your Global Entry profile, you may still use the SENTRI lanes as a Pedestrian or as a passenger in an enrolled/approved vehicle; the enrolled/approved driver has to be the one behind the wheel of the vehicle and everybody in the car must have their valid/activated Trusted Traveler cards in their possession.
Heading to the Border to Return to the USA via Global Entry/SENTRI:
1. This next rule is perhaps the best of the key benefits: According to the SENTRI rules doc, "If walking, it is not necessary to wait in the line forming in Mexico, proceed to the entry gate." What that means is Global Entry members have front-of-the-line benefits for the entire queue on the Mexico side.
Thank Goodness! You want VIP? That's VIP.
I'm aware that the San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, and CBX crossings all have dedicated pedestrian Global Entry/SENTRI lanes which also separates the main line allowing for easy passage. The "gate" is usually the fenced physical land border line separating the USA from Mexico where CBP officers will be there on the USA side to check entry documents; at that point you'll show your Global Entry card and the officer should wave you through. Be patient with them if they are processing other travelers or if they ask you to hold.
2. Be alert of other pedestrians and officers in the area; the CBP doc says, "Be courteous." One of a bunch of signs posted on the first gate says something like, "Trusted Traveler Members...Please be patient."
3. After passing through the first gate, the scenery on the USA side should emulate a typical international arrivals corridor found at most airports...a stretch of walkway leading up toward the CBP Border Inspection Station. For the San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, and CBX crossing, the Global Entry/SENTRI pedestrian lane is to the right; regular queue is on the left. Keep in mind that unlike the airport, there are no restrooms or drinking fountains after the first gate until the completion of inspection; if you have to use the facilities before crossing, do so on the Mexico side. Follow the signs or directions of any officers until you reach the Passport Control booth. Some of the guards watching the line or at the entrance of the building may ask to see your Global Entry Card to pass by the standard screening queue.
Passport Control Booth:
1. Look for the Booth that is marked as SENTRI on the TV monitor or follow the directions of the CBP officers.
2. Be prepared to make a complete verbal declaration of ALL items you are bringing into the USA, regardless if they were brought into Mexico from the USA or acquired abroard. Yes, you read that right...SENTRI rules require that ALL items either acquired or brought be disclosed to the officer. "Nothing" under the SENTRI rules means nothing but yourself. CBP wants to know exactly what's in your bag or backpack. The agent will usually ask, "Are you bringing back anything?" in lieu of "Anything to declare?". If my backpack has my laptop, I'll tell them that I'm brining back my personal laptop. All these disclosures are done verbally.
3. At the Passport Control booth, present your Global Entry card as your entry document. The officer will take your picture. Have your Passport Book, Passport Card, or Border Crossing Card available in case these are asked for identity verification purposes. At that point, the officer will ask if you're bringing back anything. Again, you'll be disclosing ALL items in your possession regardless of origin, not just items that were acquired abroad.
4. Based on my experience, most SENTRI admittance interviews have expedited processing which last about 30-45 seconds and are normally 1-3 questions long including the declaration question but can span up to 1-2 minutes with multiple questions. As a US Citizen returning from Mexico, I'll sometimes get asked of what my purpose of travel is (which needs to be specific and beyond just saying "business" or "personal"), how long I was in Mexico and where I was, where I'm headed to, my place/location of employment or residence, and/or frequency of crossings.
The officer may conduct at random or at their discretion a quick visual inspection of any bags or may refer persons to the Secondary Inspection room for additional questioning, warrant checks, or pat-down inspections. Much like going through TSA, expedited screening via SENTRI is not guaranteed. Once cleared, the officer will hand back your Global Entry card and welcome you back.
Customs / X-Ray Check Process:
As most of the inspections and questioning are done at the Passport Control booth, the X-Ray machine portion of the process should be pretty streamlined for all travelers; thus, there is no separate line for Global Entry/SENTRI in this area. Much like going through a TSA checkpoint, all bags will go through the X-Ray machine for final inspection.
Like TSA, the officer can at their discretion or at random pull any bag for a secondary visual inspection in the X-Ray area. Once cleared, you'll be free to exit the station. Welcome to the USA!
Summing Up
I would have to say that Global Entry/SENTRI is by far the quickest way to cross this border.
Most of my crossings returning home have been anywhere from 5-15 minutes plus the walk time whereas the regular lane can drift into one or even several hours. As mentioned and as you can tell by the photos on the Mexico side, the waiting conditions are less than primitive.
To be fair, there's a multitude of food and beverage vendors, shops, and paid restrooms but the overall wait conditions combined with the graffiti and long lines to cross can make any long wait inside of an air conditioned airport terminal look like a paradise:
That's a prime reason SoCalFlyer97 has Global Entry.
I'm aware that there are some who are not eligible to be Trusted Travelers. There appears to be another solution: If you're not eligible for this benefit, have travel plans in Mexico which involve a land border crossing, and the standard screening lane has an excessive wait, I am aware that one of the major Mexican bus providers called Mexicoach offers hourly cross-border departures at the San Ysidro crossing aboard their buses for a modest fare. It feeds into a special Bus Passenger Lane, crosses the border, and drops the passengers off into a special area that feeds to a dedicated pedestrian Passport Control Booth at the Port of Entry as an alternative; however, I cannot vouch for it nor its timing as I've never used it and you'll need to time their departure schedules with your arrival at the border crossing.
But if you're eligible for Global Entry, travel internationally, but don't have it and have yet to file your application...as the federal government's slogan asks, "What are you waiting for?"

But if I haven’t gotten the job I hope they let me know. It’s hard to just be waiting by my phone.
Hola!
I'm not sure if your application has been impacted or not but based on some of the other threads on this board and what's been circulating in the news media regarding SW's finances, I'm aware that Southwest has pulled a number of job positions for now. Again, not sure if yours got impacted or not. It looks like you've already followed up with your recruiter. I would see how the recruiter responds but if you don't hear back either way, I would assume that your application is a hold status until SW finances improve and not devote too much time to it until you get a response.
Hope this helps.

I was trying to find a place to send an enormous, heartfelt, THANK YOU for such incredible customer service. I am blown away and have to share my gratitude and say “EXCELLENT JOB, SWA!!” I had booked a flight for my family back in March from Burbank to ECP. I have two young children and traveling is not easy. Unfortunately, I overlooked an email I received some time ago informing me of a change of itinerary and let’s just say This wasn’t a minor change! So, When I looked the day before takeoff for details I realized we had a 7AM departure (vs original 3PM!) and a total travel time that had DOUBLED from 6 hours to 12!!! With little hope, I called customer service…. WOW. Literally zero wait time! But even more amazingly, Marcia had me on a much better flight, free of charge, within two minutes! I could not believe this. Never have I ever had a better, more efficient, professional experience with an airline. Thank you for finding a way during such challenging times for the industry to make a customer experience so wonderful. You have certainly made a lifelong customer out of me. Bravo, Southwest Airlines!
Greetings!
Thanks for sharing this story! To answer your question of the place to send your thanks, you can either email SW Customer Service directly or send it via Twitter/X:
https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/email-us
That will help ensure this gets read by the appropriate SW staff and processed. Note if Southwest initiates a change to your itinerary, you are allowed to rebook the flight for a different day/time between the two city-area pairs at no difference in fare provided travel is taken within either 14 days before or after the day of the original booking. However, I'm glad to hear that Marcia was able to help you with getting you rebooked in a friendly and professional manner.
Enjoy your trip!

My husband and I are going on our first flight and am trying to check all the boxes and do this right the first time. We are excited and nervous about our new adventure. I am a little confused on how the carryons work. I see where the dimensions are 24x16x10 based on the website - great. However, a garment duffel bag I purchased that was advertised as a ‘carryon bag’ is 22.8x12.6x12.4. I know two of those measurements are well under the required dimension while the third is 2 inches larger. My question is - will my bag be considered a carry on still with the 12.4 or 12.6 inch side being larger than the 10”? Or would it be a checked bag?
Hola and welcome to this board!
Yes, you are correct that the height of you duffle is over by 2.4". The 10" max height is to ensure your bag will fit in the overhead bins on all of SW fleets. However most duffles that are over-quota by only a couple of inches can be "squeezed" down to the specified limits given their flexible nature. If you're able to leave some extra room on the top of the bag and press down on it to get it to the 10" height limit, you should be able to carry it on as it will then fit in the bins when in its "squished" position.

Hi everyone,
I am planning a trip and would love some advice on the best routes and destinations to explore with Southwest Airlines. Specifically, I am interested in family--friendly destinations with plenty of activities for kids and adults alike. I’ve heard great things about various places, but I am looking for first--hand experiences and recommendations from fellow travelers.
What destinations have you found to be the most enjoyable for a family vacation: ?? Any tips on must-visit spots or activities that are worth checking out: ??
Also, if you’ve experienced exceptional service or have travel tips specific to Southwest Airlines, I’d love to hear those too....!
Thanks in advance for your help.....!🙂

Hola Maria-
For each of its destinations, SW has a "Destination" web page that describes what to do. There is a "Things to do" area on the page. To locate these pages, I would search for "Southwest Airlines Flights To (City)" on any major search engine and visit the official SW website.
Being from SoCal, here's my take: SAN (numerous resorts, theme parks in San Diego) and SNA (Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, beach destinations at Orange County CA) both have many family places to visit. LGB is good alternative to SNA to lock in lower fares into SoCal...Still close access Orange County destinations and Long Beach features Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary.
E.g.:
SAN

SNA

LGB

I never shop other airlines, but now, since Southwest is going to create seating classes, I will. It's a money grab at a time when second-quarter earnings showed operating revenues were up 4.5% year-over-year and hit an all-time quarterly high of $7.4 billion. All-time quarterly high. Ultimately, this is going to cost me more and make me feel less welcome on Southwest. I'm more disappointed than angry, but I'm deeply disappointed. Judging from this forum, I'm not alone, and I'm not alone in deciding that I'll need to shop other carriers going forward. I cannot believe that 80% of customers want to create this structure. Disclose your methodology and results.
Greetings! Thanks for posting your opinion on this. Please keep in mind that the Southwest Airlines Community discussion board is customer-to-customer community consisting of your fellow travelers, not a direct channel to Customer Relations.
As a fellow traveler, I can share that I spent some good money on Upgraded Boarding aboard many flights before getting A-List so I can get a good window seat toward the front of the plane as I got some really bad "back-in-the-B" positions when I checked in right at T-24 back then.

The change in boarding policy is terribly unfortunate for wheelchair users, like myself. Southwest was unique and preferred because we could often wheel to the first seats and transfer without the indignity of being strapped onto the aisle chair. Anyone reading this who does not use a wheelchair would not likely have every seen this process (on Southwest or competing airlines) Not only did this option allow a certain retention of dignity, we did not have to call in advance for a special seating assignment. Delta is preparing to modify their cabins for wheelchairs, and Southwest can expect to lose many customers. Our numbers may be too small to matter, but Southwest was a haven now lost.
Greetings from your fellow passenger...
I believe SW will need to continue to allow wheelchair passengers priority access to the bulkhead seats in the front row. Federal DOT rules require those who have a service animal or fused legs to have priority access to the bulkhead area that all airlines must follow; thus, it would make sense for Southwest to continue to accommodate wheelchaired and other passengers with disability for this area. I assume a number (if not all) of the front row will be marked as "unavailable" for other passengers selecting/reserving their seats during booking once assigned seating is implemented.

Most likely any expansions will be deferred as SW faced a major delay of delivery of new Boeing 737's due to the safety issues related to Boeing from earlier this year that has impacted its ability to expand its network but doesn't hurt to submit your request anyway.

Kind of like how Skyskanner Everywhere works but specifically for SW?
Hola!
No third-party bot needed (SW's website doesn't allow it either).
Southwest's "Find Best Flight Deals" page may have what you're looking for:
https://www.southwest.com/find-best-flight-deals/
During most sales including the current as-low-as $49 sale, clicking on the banner ad and then "Not sure where you're flying yet" link takes you to this or a similar page where you can select any airport from a drop-down list, and the lowest WGA fares will show on a list of destination airports with the earliest departure date available.
For BNA - It looks like, there's a bunch of deals there for under $100:
ATL $49
AUS $89
MDW $59
ORD $74
CVG $49
DAL $76
FLL $90
MIA $49
MSP $94
LGA $64
PHL $60
TPA $95
DCA $90
RDU $99
Not sure if this would include March 2025 travel but hope this tool helps!

Yesterday I flew Dallas to Providence on flight #2553. We had a layover in Baltimore but there was not enough time to de-board and get something to eat. To be clear, she was now off work and done for the day and could have left the airport but she took the time to buy me dinner using her own $$. That’s above and beyond! All of our crew including Sue B. and Elizabeth C. were excellent but special kudos to Dahlia for making sure I didn’t arrive in Providence with an empty stomach!

Greetings Community Southwest:
As of the time of this writing, SoCalFlyer97 has a backlog of written posts to share on this board (e.g.: The next part of my Trains-to-Planes experience series, my latest short-haul SW flight experience from SAN-SFO and back, and my latest experience and tips of using one of Global Entry's perks). Two of these are nearly fully written and ready to be posted,...and then we all got the big news this morning on the seating policy changes.
I felt it would be best to defer the other posts until next week and keep focus on this Seating Assignment headline as all eyes are on this story. I noticed that this board is flooded with questions and comments. I felt it would be good for me to opine as I'm a frequent short-haul traveler aboard the LUV airline, an A-Lister who travels up and down the Golden State and to/from PHX and LAS regularly.
First, let's run through what we already know from the official source. Here's the link to the Press Release and all of my points will be based on this: https://www.swamedia.com/releases/southwest-airlines-launches-enhancements-to-transform-customer-experience-and-improve-financial-performance
Once Southwest announced that it is moving forward with plans for assigned and premium seating, the news media ran with it. The world now knows this will be forthcoming. Also, SW announced a redesign of the boarding model and to introduce nonstop overnight flights starting with a number of routes.
We also know that Southwest announced back in April that it was doing an analysis of product preferences and expectations which included the assigned seating proposal. A reason behind all this is to strengthen their financial position so they basically don't operate in the red (pardon the pun).
Southwest released that "80% of Southwest Customers, and 86% of potential Customers, prefer an assigned seat." and "when a Customer elects to stop flying with Southwest and chooses a competitor, open seating is cited as the number one reason for the change." To be clear, I don't know as a traveler the methodology behind this polling/survey or the demographics of the participants. Some people have opined that this survey is flawed; I don't have a shred evidence to back up that claim either way. However, it would be good for the traveling public and the shareholders in my opinion to release the polling methodology but an 80% up-vote for assigned seating is a high number in my opinion to warrant action for the good of the airline.
Lastly, Southwest announced that more details will be announced during its "Investor Day" meeting in late September. Some additional details or FAQ's could show up sooner, but it appears that we as travelers will in fact have more details come later this fall. Thus, as the old cliché goes: We'll have to wait and see.
SoCalFlyer97 has experienced breaking headlines like this in the past. I've already documented my experience with my old free Washington Mutual checking account when this massive customer-focused bank failed in 2008: https://community.southwest.com/t5/Check-In-Boarding/What-happens-to-the-free-upgraded-boarding-now/m-p/174935/highlight/true#M14541
Back then, I had to wait as Chased implemented the changes. Right now, more details regarding this SW announcement are forthcoming and I and everybody else will need to hold patiently until the details are announced.
For the immediate term, we can still enjoy the current upgraded perks and what SW already has to offer until the changes are phased in.
Now that the facts are stated, here's SoCalFlyer97's thoughts on all this...
As an A-Lister, I don't know for sure how this will impact me.
If you follow my posts, I'm a window seat guy, and I usually pick the first available one which is almost always toward the front portion of the plane. I LUV the views from the window and take a bunch of pictures of them and share them on this board.
For most of my fights, I book well ahead of time during sales when the fare is low. Under an assigned seating program, that will likely mean I may be able to reserve a nice window seat, maybe toward the front. I don't know. Sometimes I've utilized my Same Day Flight Change and my "A61" benefit; I have no clue of how that's going to be addressed. I would assume A-Listers and ALP's will have some priority "say" on their seat selections--possibly including Same Day Flight Changes/Standby's but I'm not sure.
Also have no idea of which of SW's fares or tiers will allow for seat selection versus being simply assigned.
I'm therefore assuming that we as travelers will soon be able to see a seat map of each flight and how full it is upon booking; that would be a huge plus and remove much of the guesswork involved with figuring out how full a flight is; maybe that will be part of the tradeoff benefit for "A61" in deciding whether or not to make a same-day flight change (i.e.: if there's only middle seats left, I may decide to hang on to my original booking). Something like this on SW's booking page would be a huge plus. Here's Breeze Airway's seating map for an August mid-week flight from SBD-SFO:
I'll take that first available premium economy window seat toward the front...okay maybe not!
One thing I'll opine on and folks have already commented on this on this forum. I believe this policy change will put a dead stop to any alleged pre-boarding abuse and seat-saving problems that has been a widespread discussion topic on this board which should help protect the value of the higher fare products. That will be a good thing.
Regarding the Premium Seating feature...I have no idea how this section will fit into all this and I think this will be a phased-in change given Southwest's massive fleets (I could be wrong). I'm assuming the seating re-arrangements will be done while the new RECARO seats with in-seat power are installed in conjunction with the larger overhead bin space to minimize the need to gate-check carry-on's. How this premium section fits into A-List/ALP perks...no clue.
Regarding the boarding process and timing...the news release did mention that they are aiming for "reductions in turn-time through new technologies and procedures".
That tells me that they may have cracked the code of quickly boarding (and possibly exiting) the plane without the need for open seating which I think they'll announce later. That tells me that there's a high possibility that boarding times will stay at 30-minutes prior to departure (or even be improved to 25-minutes prior) but that's my guess for now.
Lastly, Overnight Flights...Starting next February.
Here they are: LAS-BWI LAS-MCO LAX-BWI LAX-BNA PHX-BWI
This will be a great feature in my opinion. If they're able to roll this out systemwide in the future to include the SoCal short-haul routes, that basically provides transportation coverage during the night owl hours up and down Cali. It's worth noting that BrightLine is building a high speed rail route for the SoCal-LAS corridor which will essentially compete with SW; having additional lower cost night owl flights for this route can help assure SW remains competitive for this market. I hope SW considers Cali for Redeye real soon.
So there you have it. In summary, I don't know if this change will be a good or bad thing for my flight needs. I'm guessing it will be good but that depends on how this gets executed and what the seating reservation policies will be. As SW announces more details of how this will all integrate with A-List/ALP and Same Day Flight Change/Standby and what the "A61" tradeoff's will be, I'll provide an update.
For now travel safely and enjoy the rest of your summer. I'll be posting my other travel experiences mentioned at the top of this posting sometime next week.

I just wanted to kindly ask for any tips for me to at least get an interview. I recently tried again and applied for the Supervisor Flight Attendant Position and the Station Admin Coordinator at BWI since I qualify for both. I wondering if there is something that I’m doing wrong.
Hello-
As a fellow traveler, I believe SW's hiring was impacted with the delayed deliveries of new Boeing aircraft that was to replace SW's older 737-700 fleets. The aging planes had to be retired but were not replaced; thus, SW had to reduce or suspend service on some routes this year. That's my speculative guess of why hiring is slow but it's based on the Boeing issue. I would keep checking back.
If the hiring portal is automatically rejecting your application, I would also double check your answers to key questions such as being willing to travel or relocate. The SW Talent Community is also a good place to subscribe to receive updates on job openings:

Usually when something breaking happens which involves a major change (in this case assigned SW seating), the company usually puts forth the initial announcement where the details of the changes are released later. Yes, that leaves many unanswered questions...
I also experienced this back when I had a free Washington Mutual checking account from the early 2000's, news got out that the bank went down during the 2008 financial crash, and a short while later Chase announced it was acquiring WaMu's assets from the federal government. WaMu customers received word that "Wamu is becoming Chase". There were so many questions back then and I recall Wamu's bank failure and how impacted customers were going to be able to bank going forward was on page 1 of the news for several days...
The details answers to everybody's how, when and what questions came through later.
It was then that branch rebranding and remodeling occurred. Gone were WaMu pods. Then after that, I got a mailer that Chase sent to me announcing that it was totally restructuring its checking account options that included scrapping WaMu's free checking option. At that point, I (and many others) opted out and moved my money away from Chase to an independent and financially healthy credit union that supported free checking and also emulated the former WaMu business model of friendly staff, and cost-effective products.
Re: the Assigned Seating announcement, Chase will likely announce details of how it will handle unused boarding perks such as Upgraded Boarding benefits later. For now, I would continue to enjoy the benefit.
More details to come and think there will be more announcements made during SW's September's Investor Meeting.
