That is pretty cool that Southwest is offering more flights for the big game. It is going to be a great game and I hope that many people will take advantage of this special offer. Practice your poker skills first before you decide on the many Poker Sites that are at your gambling disposal.

Great work Bill.
You've got to be a kid in a candy store thinking about all the possibilities AirTran is going to give you. Hope the company gives you a bunch of 'outside the box' thinkers. Stuff that had never been possible. Must be fun (but stressful) coming to work these days.

DO NOT FLY VOLARIS! My fiancee had her shoes, a bag of chocolates and makeup stolen from her luggage on a flight from Chicago to Guadalajara. When we attempted to make a report at Guadalajara Volaris staff refused to take a report and asked her why she did not check her bag before she left the airport. Short of calling her a liar they told her she could not report the theft. When I tried calling their corporate number, they also refused to take a report and said that we needed to have checked out bags for stolen items before exiting the airport. I, as well as countless members of my family, have flown Volaris in the past but no longer. I cannot use an airline that will take thousands of dollars from me but will refuse to reimburse a $90 pair of shoes, or take a report to investigate a theft for something that was stolen while in their possession. Extremely lousy customer service.

Love your airline. We live in Manning,SC and just had to drive up to RDU to take a flight to Boston (Connecting to British Air) Charleston will save us abi=out a 3 hour drive to fly SW. Just watched your TV ad's about no FEE for changes (Great) However on our return trip from Boston we arrived early for our flight back to RDU via Phila. We arrived at the gate just as an earlier flight from Boston to Phila was boarding . I inquired about space on the earlier flight and was told there was plenty of room. However the agent said he would have to charge us a "CHANGE FEE". We declined and waited about 2-3 hours for our scheduled flight to Phila. I am confused? Was the gate agent mis-informed on your policies or what?? PS Our flight to Heathrow on BA was a comedy of errors they need to have somebody from SOUTHWEST tell them how to run an AIRLINE. Glad your now serving The Palmetto State. Welcome aboard. Norm

It is very inspiring to read the story of starting Rollin King and Herb their Airline. It proved that if you want to do anything in life, you must be crazy about that. My all wishes with Rollin King and Herb for their better and prosperous future. May God bless them.

This is wonderful story of the human spirit. Humbling too to those of us who are more fortunate. Stores like this are a wonderful anecdote for much ofthe cynical times we must all live through.

When are you going to link Nashville with business destinations like Atlanta, Charlotte, Boston, New York, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, or Minneapolis? I'm glad for the new Florida cities but what about the business travelers?

Southwest should really consider taking some 737's to London via Canada like Sun Country is doing at MSP. Chicago and BWI would certainly be good markets for this. Also, speaking of Nashville, their London service with American had great load factors in coach(as simple research on google will provide evidence of) on a 767(it was the first class they were unable to fill which made their money). So, that said, could a 737 all-coach configuration to London via Canada like Sun Country is doing in Minneapolis work in Nashville where American failed?? Might be worth looking at. Pittsburgh and several other cities could really succeed with a plane that size and all coach layout. Something to consider. Hopefully you really will look into it.

I'm with you, Bill--Glee! rocks the house! Back when I was in high school (oh so many moons ago), it wasn't just "geeks in glee," but I can say that my former (and late) Glee Club director, Mr. Dorndorf (I couldn't make that up!) would be turning in his grave over some of the dance moves. Personally, I wish we'd had that chance! Thanks for your article and for the comparison to Southwest. Many of your employees could be Glee! stars in their own right.
See ya Tuesday on the tube!

love to see southwest in palm springs even just a few routes into major cities. THis is a great airline and would love for them to fly into and out of PSP. Not many options now from this airport and to fly southwest passengers must drives a few hours away.

Bill, my wife and I live 10 min from Dulles and were elated when Southwest added the non-stop service between Dulles and Tampa. Every flight we took was sold out, and given all the similar posts I've read here, I don't understand the business rationale. With only 2 flights per day both ways, and heavy passenger volume, I was expecting more legs to be added.... I studied Southwest in MBA school and remember thinking "how smart those guys are compared to the buffoonery of the legacy carriers". And now this! You've lost two customers forever, as we refuse to make that obnoxious, traffic-jammed trip to BWI. Have you ever made that drive in the morning from NoVA to BWI? Probably not! And with all these posts complaining about this decision, where is your reply??? Not cool!

I didn't read the Post Dispatch article, but something Bill didn't mention is that this is not the first time St. Louis Employees have done this! "LUV Thy Neighbor" was a project the STL Employees started years ago (even before Ty was on "Trading Spaces"), which benefitted homeowners who lived in the city adjacent to the airport - their "neighbors", if you will. There were roofs repaired, fences fixed, above ground pools removed, flowers planted, floors replaced, porch steps and wheelchair ramps built, and more painting and cleaning done than you could imagine. The SERVANT'S HEART is surely beating strong in STL - way to go, Team! I miss you!

Exactly a week before Thanksgiving, about half of the Schedule Planning Department assembled on a fine November morning to volunteer at a house being built by Habitat for Humanity. The reason only half of our group was there because the other half of Schedule Planning had been at the same house a week earlier for similar work; the earlier group framed and raised the house, while my group sided, caulked, and painted. I have to admit....the framers were mostly my younger and fitter colleagues....the painters, for the most part (and DEFINTELY including me!), were older, less agile, and.....wiser. 🙂 But both groups got the same things out of the volunteer event--we laughed, we shared, we functioned as a surprisingly well-skilled team, and we got to know others who also chose to serve their communities. It's true that Southwest's primary corporate charity is the Ronald McDonald House, and heaven knows how many wonderful, heartstring-tugging dinners I've helped cook there. But we also know that need in our country isn't limited to the guests at Ronald McDonald Houses. Volunteerism is needed in every community we serve--even in those we don't. That's why many of our Employees get involved in communty volunteer efforts of every kind. Food banks, clean-up efforts, Salvation Army, mentoring, Meals-On-Wheels--Southwest Employees are involved. In fact, having a "Servant's Heart" is one of the three tenets of "Living The Southwest Way" (the other two are having a "Warrior Spirit" and having a "Fun-LUVing Attitude"). And my 35,000 Southwest Family members and I have perfected this to a "T"! Everyone gets something different out of volunteering. Of course, by volunteering as a group for Habitat, we had an excellent team building excercise. After seeing your Vice President smash the heck out of his thumb for the third or fourth time and STILL not spew out obscenities that would make Joan Rivers blush...I've gained even more respect for the man. Watching a colleague get a fully-loaded brush-full of paint right in the face is both bonding and hysterically funny. And to have a coworker look at you and in complete innocence say, "Hey Bill, can I have your caulk?" and not collapse in fits of gutter-minded laughter is most definitely a character-building moment. But a wonderful bonus to the experience of volunteering is getting to know the other people in the community who are volunteering shoulder-to-shoulder with you, and learning their "back stories." At our Habitat shift we met, of course, the employees of Habitat who supervise the volunteers and learned why they do what they do. They're a lot like Southwest Employees: they passionately view what they do not as a job, but as a mission. We worked with employees of Coca-Cola, who were endlessly curious about the Southwest Culture (and who were excellent trim painters!). We worked with members of Builders Of Hope, a wonderful organization dedicated to rebuilding and stimulating formerly-blighted West Dallas (these guys were AWESOME teachers). And then we worked with Ellette and Adam. Ellette and Adam showed up at the Habitat house with no fanfare and got right to work. And they worked hard! While we were talking (and painting, and painting, and painting), Ellette mentioned that she and Adam had just gotten married. Aww, how sweet, we all thought. When? "This past Sunday," she replied. "This is how we're spending our honeymoon week." Say what???? She explained that they wanted to spend the week celebrating the union of their lives by giving back to their community, and by giving back to everyone who had given to them. During their "honeymoon" week they'd spent time packaging bags at food banks, delivering turkey dinners to the disadvantaged, cooking meals in a kitchen to feed the homeless, and now here they were at Habitat. They were still having their honeymoon at night--staying in hotels, eating out, seeing theatre--but during the day, they were investing sweat equity in their community. "We're so excited to be here," she told me. "We can't believe they got us into a Habitat volunteer opportunity so quickly!" HOW SELFLESS IS THAT? I don't think I've heard of a better, more meaningful way to spend a honeymoon. Way more memorable than a week in Cancun. Far more relationship-building than a week on a cruise ship. Ellette and Adam have a story that is both unique and inspiring. And how better to give thanks for their marriage than to give of their recently-joined hearts to their communities through service! Getting to know them and witnessing their committment to their fellow man will stay with me far, far longer than the soreness in my back from a day of painting and caulking. As we each head into our Thanksgiving celebrations, I hope you all take a moment to reflect and give thanks for everything you have. I hope you'll make every effort to communicate to friends and family how thankful you are to have them in your lives, whether that's in person or long-distance. And...I hope you'll invest some of your time volunteering in your community as a demonstration of your thankfulness. There is nothing that will give you a greater return. Thanks for the lesson in humilty, Adam and Ellette. Breathe peace, everyone....and breathe thanks. Happy Thanksgiving! Bill

Afternoon, all!
Thanks for your comments! I hope I did strike a nerve. Imagine how much nicer this nation could be if everyone just practiced common courticy and niceness. And....why not??
And Team 3/BSA14....I am **so** sorry I didn't see your comment. I've been a little preoccupied this week, and I didn't get it until today. While I'd be happy to answer your questions--actually you may be better served if our Blog Queen, Paula Berg, or Blog Boy, Brian Lusk, answers them. PB/BL.....can you?
Thanks!
Bill
