I won't move my computer case from a seat I'm saving. You planning to touch my stuff or sit on the computer case? Wwhen I'm early on the plane and decide that I want to use the lav during boarding, I put my computer case on my seat to let others know that the seat is taken. How do you plan to distinguish between he situations described in paragraphs 1 & 2?

Thanks for this. Most of the time, the agent let's one of my kids board with me, being A-List Preferred. Occasionally, I get an agent who actually enforces the policy. It's so rare that you get "an enforcer" that you think they are the ones who don't know the policy. Frankly, I think that by the time one earns A-List Preferred - or even A-List - they ought to allow this as a benefit, but it is good to see the actual policy. Now that my kids are 15 and 17, it's not too easy to justify one of them "needing to" board with me.

HERE'S A SIMPLE AND EASY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM: When a passenger asks for a pre-boarding pass, the agent should ask him or her if they need physical assistance getting down the jetway? If not, then simply ask them to go ahead and board with their group. Interestingly, I experienced this being done in Denver several months ago. I was not well at the time and asked the agent at the gate for a pre-boarding pass just to test it to see how easily this could be done. The agent asked me this question which I thought was courteous but also direct and to the point. I had to admit that, no, I would not have any trouble making my way down the jetway. I honestly thought that Southwest must be training their gate agents to ask this question. However, subsequently I have seen the same long lineup of people pre-boarding who look like the picture of health. There will always be people who are not truthful when asked this question. But most will respond like I did and board with their group.

I do see this enforced occasionally. I hope the discretion in enforcement might lean towards more enforcement on busier flights and less so on empty flights, but also it might come down to enforcement by opportunity when there aren't other urgent matters in boarding, or when the violation stands out more for larger items.

Check your email to see the pathetic excuse of an explanation and "apology". Southwest Airlines - YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.

I was travelling with my adult niece. I asked SWA whether the first person could save a seat for the second (in case our boarding numbers were far apart) and was told yes, as long as I wasn't saving a bunch of seats. Other passengers didn't gripe, possibly because the seat I was saving was a middle seat. I personally see no problem saving 1 seat for a companion, but a bunch of seats? That's getting ridiculous.
