There is a pretty significant weight difference between a 737-700 and a Max 8 - about a 60,000
pound difference.
The other thing to remember is to attain sufficient lift for takeoff requires a higher speed in hot air than air that is not so hot -- ie use more runway. It also brings into play another factor: plane tires are speed rated - meaning do not intentionally go faster than. The temps in Las Vegas may be pushing that limit - thus find some way to lighten the plane and lower the speed required to lift off..

It's hard to say because sometimes it is allowed and other times it is not.
IMO in this case my guess is that it would not be allowed. The 40 minute time on the ground is just too short.

SW advertised the flight as nonstop because when the schedule was set 8 months agp , it expect ed the flight to be non stop. It had no way to know that the high pressure heat dome, which is normally over Texas this time of year, would instead be over CA and NV.

Planes have defined ranges they can fly. If there is too much wind on the nose on some days, that range is reduced necessitating fuel stops.
Planes require a certain minimum runway length to safely take off. Hot weather increases that minimun lenght. In these cases an airline has 3 choices to lighten the plane which in turn reduces the amount of runway needed to take off.
1) Off load some oassengers
2) Off load some baggage and cargo
3) Leave with less fuel and then stop somewhere to get more.

One cannot use points from two different RR acounts to buy tickets on one reservation.
But here's an idea
You buy you and your wife a one way flight with your points to your destination .and.
then your wife buys both of you a one way return flight home with her points.

Hi Lori.
You are not dealing with Southwest policy here. You are dealing with a federal law.
That law basically states that anyone that cliams a need to pre-board must be allowed to do so. SW is prohibited form asking wny a person needs to pre bord or from asking for a proof of the need.
Yes, there are cheats that abuse the system. You appareny encountered some of them, and there is abslutely nothing that airline can do to stop it.

6 pm is now gone, but there are now 3 seats available on the 4:30 thru STL and one seat on the 7:45 non stop.

Sorry, but I don't think there is any way that you could bring an item that big on the plane. I've never heard of anyone buying a seat for an item. Yours would be too large to seat belt in a seat and thus would be a danger in the event of an emergency.

Sorry to hear that. To answer your question: SW woulod book you on the next available flight - even if that means the next day.
I just checked and there is one seat available on the 6 pm departure connecting in Houston.
Go to the gate agent and ask to be shifted to that flight.
Also, keep checking the site for other flighta that may become available. People cancle all the time opening up oppotunities for others.
Check to see if you can make that change on your own..

Sorry to hear of Carole's troubles. Since this is a ustomer forum, it is not a place to appeal to Southwest. Carole appeal directly to the airline by boijg to "contact us" below and following the prompts to the appropriate place to file a complaint.
Also, if she feels there was a violation of federal law, she could file a compalint with the US Dept. of Transportation.

aren't doing a whole lot for me., and are pretty disappointing.. If you have to travel between say 8/6 and 8/20, then the sale might be of some minor help, but I'll be waiting for the regular August fare sale before I book any more trips.
