Well, I guess we are on opposite ends of the hypochondria spectrum. I don't wipe down anything and it hasn't affected me negatively all these 50 years. On the contrary, I think oversanitation leads to a reduced immune system and possibly even stronger germs, but I'll leave that argument to the doctors. At least you're consistent in your logic, which I respect. But one interesting factor... they claimed the intent of the mask was to protect others from you, at least for Covid. But all your other actions are intent on reducing YOUR risk. I presume your thinking is that wearing a mask also affords you a level of protection from others? ( Again, I make no claims regarding this being true, but that hasn't been the argument for the past year). Or are you just being magnanimous? I guess I'll go sit in the smoking section in the back like the good old days. Just now we're the heathens who prefer to shun the masks.

Just curious... when are you going to let someone without a mask sit next to you? Never? When the FAA says it's okay? What metric will you use to determine when it's safe enough? I presume you are vaccinated.

The point is.. the masks are what's causing the aggravation, even without the alcohol. It's not the other way around. And once 75% of the people are vaccinated, are you seriously implying the risk of someone catching Covid in those 72 hours is worth completely overenforcing mask rules on the plane? By your logic, they'll never come off. Well, except for when eating. And those masks wouldn't prevent those same infected people from getting off in Hawaii and infecting everyone... which they are not. That's my point. What started as "flatten the curve" and "follow the science" has now become "Every single restriction possible must be put in place regardless of the statistical benefit. If it saves just ONE infection, then it's worth it". By that metric, we will literally NEVER get past this. And that is what people are getting belligerent. Infection rates are going down, immunizations are going up, and yet the restrictions are WORSE now than they were a year ago. I'm flying to Montana right now. I look forward to not wearing this stupid mask all weekend. I have no one within 6 feet on this plane. Give me a logical reason why I should get harassed for poking my immunized and Covid tested nose out of my mask.

To be fair, you lose a bit of credibility when you start your rant with a whine about something as piddly as an FA making a snarky comment about you being on vacation and wearing your mask. It's called "humor ". It's the Southwest way. You didn't get it and appear to have gotten bent out of shape, and probably escalated things. That said, I have no respect for people that use "disrespected" as a verb, especially when it's their job to be in customer service. She doesn't get to worry about how much respect she gets, as long as you follow the rules. So given the limited info, I'm tempted to still side with you. For whatever that is worth, on a customer forum.

Sorry to hear it. Yeah, having only a year to travel from reservation date is tough, even before Covid. You could lose 6 months if you were prudent enough to book early. I wish SWA would give us 12 months from original flight date, but until then, we just have to work within the limitations.

Another idea is to use Costco, or an employer coupon code, if you have either. Much lower rates than anything else I've found. Unfortunately, no bonus SWA points, but those are a pittance.

Maybe it's time to reconsider the mask mandate. 75% of the passengers flying to Hawaii have been vaccinated, and 100% have been tested negative prior to the flight. And yet the flight attendants are more surly than ever... stating that if they see your nose twice... once after warning you... you will be met by authorities when they land. This is absurd, illogical, and completely at odds with the SWA attitude. Yes, they have to follow FAA rules.. technically. But this level of enforcement is unnecessary. The pushback and disdain will only get worse. If the FAA doesn't do anything before September, it's up to SWA to use their wisdom to mitigate the issue, not exacerbate it.

The only nuance with RR points is with taxes. 1. Flights booked with Points don't get charged some federal taxes. As such, cheaper flights (which include a higher percentage of taxes) are relatively a better deal with Points. 2. On the other hand, international flights have many taxes which must be paid in cash. Flying back from Cancun is about $100 in taxes if I recall correctly... so your Points only cover part of the bill. This likely doesn't matter to most people, but don't be surprised if your flight isn't free.

You could fly to Bozeman in 2 days and see Yellowstone. From my airport it's $68.... for a last minute flight. If you can't find someplace to fly by August, you're not trying. I have 8 flights by then.

You didn't lose a year of travel. Plenty of places to fly in 2021. I'm on my 13th vacation, courtesy of my CP. Flights are extra cheap in many cases. Any bonus you got last year was just that...a bonus. And you could still fly. I hit 50k miles last year. So I'm really not sure what your issue is. I don't understand why the people complaining about the CP aren't even using their CP. Only a very few exceptions like Belize and Turks are closed, and that's certainly not the fault of SWA. I could complain that I earned a CP for this year that I could have gotten for free. But I don't expect to get another year out of it. They already gave us the bonus points to get there. Now I'm incentivized to fly and spend like crazy to get it for 2022. My wallet already hurts.

Hawaii flight was full, as was the airport yesterday. No ride share to be found. But today's local flight is empty, as usual, even though the airport is full. Little patience left for masks. Not sure they can manage until September.

Don't conflate Southwest having to follow silly rules directed by the TSA and FAA with those actual bozos who created the rules... both after 9/11 and due to Covid. I don't like the rules, but I follow them. And SWA is doing their best. On my 40-50 flights this year, I haven't seen any issues. I did annoy one FA by leaving my mask off too much on one Hawaii trip. I'll see if I can do the same tomorrow on my next one. Hopefully they'll be more flexible since everyone on the plane is tested and most are vaccinated.

You are an unhelpful troll whose contribution here epitomizes the forum fledgling experience… people come in with an experience to share, spend the majority of the engagement being told you’re wrong about what happened to you and what it says on your receipt, account, and boarding pass, and then leave because there was no value added by the community. Thanks for the critique. Yeah, I have little tolerance for people who have long rants that are short on facts. It's obvious that your stated situation could never have happened exactly like you claim. How far off from reality it is, only you know. Maybe you got just a few details wrong in your fervor to complain. But that tells me you prefer vitriol over veracity. This then informs me what kind of person you are, and how you likely exacerbated the situation. I guess your kind is common enough here. Yeah, you're right... you don't tend to get the sympathy you come seeking.

As I pointed out in my earlier post, there is risk to using the flat tire rule. The risk is that you don't take a flight because all the standby slots get used up. If that happens, I don't know if Southwest tries to put you out the next day or not. Even if so, the risk having to spend an extra night somewhere IMO reduces the viability of playing the flat tire game. I have used the flat tire rule twice. Once because rain covered roads made it impossible to get to DEN on time, and the other was really due to a flat tire on my way to DAL. So did you cancel the flight, so as not to be a no- show? Or call and ask for the standby? I presume it takes a call before the flight leaves, and then an in person visit at check in?

TMS logic is sound. The only real way to lock in low priced fares is to lock in funds permanently as non refundable TF. So if I have a flight I'm not sure I'll take, or it's way out in the future, I use "new money" instead of TF to get the maximum expiration time. Yes, it takes a bit of foresight into your future travel plans. Then I use the TF for nearer flights, or ones I'm sure I won't cancel.

It's mainly for the handlers. I get caution tags put on my bags when they are too LIGHT (as in empty). They don't want them to throw their backs out lifting a deceptively light suitcase. If they were that worried about fuel, they wouldn't give us two free 😉

So in this case once you combined the $10 with your $300 you aren't able to separate the 2 amounts once since they have already been combined and the rule is the reservation will take on the earliest expiration date of funds you apply to a reservation. -Blake And the oldest ingredient affects the freshness of the batch. I try hard to avoid this issue, but it's difficult. Risk funds expiring, or risk adding new funds to them and then having THOSE expire. Sometimes I've purchased flights with new funds if they were more likely to be canceled. And this time I bought a cheaper flight to avoid adding funds to expiring funds, and now I have to spend more to change to a better time. Oops. I gambled and lost. Bummer, yes. But still much better than the alternative.

That $43 discount would have vanished had you checked one bag, let alone two. That's my favorite part. I travel a lot between two houses, or with scuba gear. Carrying full (or empty) suitcases free is invaluable for me. And the last time I tried to change a flight on another airline....I said never again.

I thought I read somewhere that they might need the seats for employees to reposition them due to unforeseen circumstances.
