Oh I love the Home Alone movies! It's one of those rare things when the sequel is just as good as the original! Home Alone 2 in particular, is amusing to watch now with the snafu that happened with the flight Kevin was trying to board. If you recall, he "bumped into" the gate agent making her drop all the tickets she was holding, and his ticket got "lost" in the pile. Kevin was able to board as long as he could "locate" his Dad on the plane. And he could also sit in "any seat" he wanted? Was this a Southwest flight? š It wouldn't happen today!! The entire "Home Alone" situation wouldn't happen today because of technology, computers, and cell phones. There's a popular meme that shows a text from Kevin to his Mom saying he is home alone, with a reply that they are coming right back to get him. š --Jessica

When a plane has an open seating policy and no reserved seats, this can happen. Honestly, I don't care where I sit on the plane, so it's not an issue for me. Why are people so concerned about being in the first few rows of an airplane, where seats are often saved? The only reason to be towards the front of the plane is if you have a very short connection to catch. If your connection time is one hour or more, where you sit in the plane really doesn't matter. --Jessica

Normally when this happens you receive an e-mail confirming the change that was made *and* the e-mail says if you want to rebook to a different flight you can at no additional cost, but you have to do it within 72 hours. --Jessica

I mean - I do get the argument here. I can see a valid point being made that the original purchaser should get travel funds credited back to them when flights that they book for others are cancelled. But as of now, that's not the way it works. --Jessica

@Dahlken wrote: This is sad that an airline has become so greedy. I have a flight coming up that I just had the other party cancel on me. After I bought the tix. And you are refusing to even give me credit? You can bet that this will be the LAST time I, my family, my friends, my band, I'll even remind my enemies to avoid the ripoff policies of this airline and fly with ANY OTHER. A little confused by this. Not sure what "the other party cancel on me means", but assuming your "flight coming up" was in your name, you certainly do get the credit via travel funds if it is cancelled. If others cancelled their own flights, then the credit goes back to them since the flight was in their name. If you booked all of their tickets using your credit card ... sorry. I mean, I can understand the frustration here, but the tickets you paid for were for other people, not you, and if you are buying the cheapest fare (Wanna Get Away) you don't get a credit card refund when tickets get cancelled. If you want that, you need to book the more expensive fare. --Jessica

Have you looked at flight prices for Dec 19? Southwest does not charge you for changing your flight, and it's very possible that you might find a flight on Dec 19 that is cheaper than the one you currently have booked. When this happens, you can rebook *at no cost* and the difference in price is given back to you in the form of travel credit that you can use on a future flight (up to 1 year from the date you first booked the flight). If the price increases, you only pay the difference. Let us know what you find! --Jessica

Posts like this crack me up. You are 380 points away from A-List Preferred, which means you have earned 74,620 points from previous flights this year. This means you must have flown a fair number of one way flights this year (but less than 50, as 50 will get you to Preferred status). Let's say you flew 40, which is the equivalent to 20 round trips. All that flying with Southwest in one calendar year and you're going to give it up and "not recommend Southwest" because you are a few points shy of A-List Preferred? You already made A-List, and truth be told, very few people make it to any of these special statuses. I never have. I've looked at the differences between A-List and A-List Preferred, and honestly, there isn't too much of a difference aside from a higher earning bonus and free wi-fi. Unless you book another flight ... there's always next year! --Jessica

Yes! I was looking at this just this morning. I have yet to determine if travel funds will show if you modify a flight to a lower price point - as it is stated, it seems to only show travel funds for canceled flights. --Jessica

Hi all! I traveled this weekend from PHL to FLL and back! My flight was scheduled to leave PHL on Friday evening at 6:20PM with a stop in Orlando, arriving in FLL at 11:20. There was a bit of rain in the forecast for the evening but I literally didn't think anything of it as I was driving to the airport - it was barely raining by the time I checked my bag at curbside checkin (around 4:30PM), and I was just glad it wasn't snow! Eventually though my flight got delayed from 6:20 to nearly 9PM - wherever the plane was coming from, the weather must have been worse than it was in Philly. Not good for me since I wouldn't make my Orlando connection at this rate. They automatically rebooked me on a flight at 6:30PM heading to MDW instead, and from there to FLL, getting to FLL at 12:45AM. :X When I had booked this flight originally it was for Saturday morning with 2 stops in MDW and Austin TX, but knowing how weather can be in Chicago I had rebooked it to go through ORD the night before instead, thinking it was much more direct and the weather would be better heading south than heading west. Well, that wasn't in the cards and I ended up going to MDW anyway! I had all sorts of scenarios going through my head at this point - I'm going to be stuck in Chicago, I need to call the hotel in Florida and tell them I'm running late or not showing up at all, and most importantly - what is going to happen to my checked luggage?! I told the gate agent when I got my new tickets that I had checked a bag, and she told me that it was being retagged to the new itinery I had. In my mind I was like "Yeah right. This situation right here is exactly how luggage gets lost. My luggage is going to Orlando and will be stuck there, maybe it will make it to FLL in the morning" and so on. The new flight to MDW was running late and didn't leave PHL until 7PM, but I had an hour layover in MDW and that plane was also running late so I made the connection and got to FLL well past 1AM. I literally was not expecting to see my luggage at baggage claim but it was there, and amazingly one of the first bags to appear. They had put a sticker over the original tag with the new itinery handwritten on it. I was amazed. So, my question to you all is this: is this normal?! š When flights get rerouted in the 11th hour as mine was, how do the agents working with bags know to find the right bag and tag it to the right location? I assume the pink "TRANSFER" tags are the first thing that they look for since my bag already had a stop/transfer - as well as a luggage tag with a name on it. But I'm wondering if situations like these result in a majority of lost luggage, and I just got really lucky. --Jessica

I'm not really sure why gender specification is relevant to an airline, but, here we are. Have other companies adopted a non-binary option? Most profiles that I fill out on web sites still say male/female only in my experience. --Jessica

What exactly is the login issue? What is the error you are getting? I use the Southwest app and don't have any login issues - in fact, it's one of the very few apps that I 'keep logged in' so I rarely, if ever, have to re-sign in on the app, unless I physically sign out and have to sign back in again. I did do this a few weeks ago when I updated my password. No issues. --Jessica

@annieontheroad Maybe!! I just checked the flight I had trouble with and after I made the intital reservation, I made 4 subsequent changes. I was able to do the first change myself, but the other 3 I couldn't do on my own. It was a flight booked with points, so I don't know if that factored into it. The error message I was receiving was "Expected pricing not matched" with a long error code, and I couldn't complete/save the changed reservation. SWA was able to do it for me. --Jessica

There are way too many incomplete details to even begin to advise you, so just a few question I have: 1) "requested a flight" - what does this mean? Did you actually book a flight online and get a confirmation number? Assuming you did at least that -- 2A) Are you saying your flight, which was supposed to leave on November 19, was changed to November 26, an entire week later? 2B) Or are you saying your returning flight changed from November 23 to November 26, 3 whole days later? C) Where were you flying to? D) Where was your return flight headed? E) When you waited in the airport for :counts: 7 hours, did that flight ever take off or was it cancelled? That's rough! $200 is fair compensation but I can agree that you would want a little something extra considering all the other problems that you encountered. My only experience in this area was a flight en route to Vegas with a stop in Chicago last January. Got to Chicago no problem, but there was an issue with the plane preventing takeoff to Vegas, and a snowstorm coming that night. If the flight was cancelled, I would be stuck in Chicago for sure for who knows how long. Thankfully the plane did end up leaving, 4 hours later, and Southwest did give everyone a $100 voucher for the trouble. That was good enough for me! --Jessica

I can't see the exact error, but I had a similiar experience changing a reservation. I received a message and could not make the change. I messaged Southwest on Twitter explaining the situation and they changed my reservation for me in under 5 minutes. They literally did this 3 different times as the price kept going down, lol, I kept apologizing and they were so nice about it! Good luck. --Jessica

lol a 'third world airline' Southwest has one of the best boarding processes of any airline because you can pick *whatever seat you want* on the airplane. The earlier your boarding position, the more options you have for window and aisle seats. If you and your family boarded in separately, whoever goes on the plane first can hold a seat (within reason) for your partner. Most people are cool with it, but it *is* first come first serve, so if anyone really wants that seat you are saving, you might have to defend your reasoning for keeping it. In a similiar vein, instead of having the airline (United) "re-adjust" your seating arrangement so you could sit together, the Southwest way is to simply ask for two seats together. People will oblige if you are nice about it. --Jessica

Oh man, there's so many great things. I barely know where to begin! I have only been to Chicago twice, but I LOVED it both times! Since you are going in December, I highly recommend going to Millennium Park and seeing not only 'The Bean' but the incredible Christmas tree there. I'd post a picture if I could - it's the most amazing tree I've ever seen! Willis (Sears) Tower is also a must, in my opinion. As far as food, I've had deep dish pizza at Uno's and Lou Malnoti's and both were amazing. Al's Italian Beef is also incredible, and there are plenty of places that sell Chicago-style hot dogs. I am hungry now š Enjoy your day trip!! --Jessica
