Rule #1 of cruising from one who has done it multiple times:
Never, ever, EVER fly the day of your cruise. Always fly in the day before. ALWAYS. Because things like this can happen. With any airline. And then you'll miss your cruise. Fly in the day before, spend the night somewhere close to the port, and go to the port the next day.
You owe it to yourself to use common sense in this situation - not Southwest.

Your preferred phone number and e-mail address are tied to your Southwest account. They are grayed out on More Rewards because you cannot change them there. Log into your Southwest account on Southwest.com and go to "Profile" to change them.

As such, Hilton could not verify that the reservation was for me and therefore could not provide the confirmation number.
That seems ... problematic, especially considering you were charged for the cost with your own credit card? Did you tell them that? I book through Southwest Hotels quite often (just a few weeks ago, in fact, 1,000 RR bonus!) and I never have any problems - but I always get a confirmation number and an e-mail with the details immediately after I book.
My only guess is that your confirmation got mixed with someone else's somehow, and they (Southwest Hotels / Booking) needs to be able to resolve it.

No it will not cover the full amount.
That's your issue. You cannot enter 3 travel funds if the 3 travel funds will not cover the full amount of your flight. You need to be able to pay for your flight in full with up to 3 forms of payment. If 3 travel funds will not cover it, you need to enter 2 and pay the rest of the fare another way.

Story of my life!! Try getting from PHL to anywhere in Florida! Anywhere! MCO, MIA, FFL, TPA ... Nonstops literally do not exist which boggles my mind. Getting to FL takes 6-9 hours or *more* with stops as far away as Chicago or STL when it should take 3 hours going south, not west.
Nonstops exist on American though ...

Generally if a card has a chip, then a chip must be used. If the chip malfunctions or cannot be read, the credit card number can be manually entered, but the chip has to fail multiple times for this to become an option - at least 3 I believe.

I did not know that Southwest even accepted Paypal?
Oh they do, it's the main way I pay. I use PayPal for most things when I can and I have used it in this exact scenario to pay the taxes/fees for an otherwise free flight. I feel like it's an extra layer of protection vs entering your CC details directly on a site.
Anyway -- I would have checked my reservation immediately after booking (same day) and I would have started raising an alarm if I didn't see my reservation in my account.

This is the only annoying thing I have found with travel funds - when you rebook a flight more than once when the price goes down, each adjustment / credit is its own fund. IMO, if you're adjusting the same flight multiple times, it should all go towards the same fund / reservation number so you can use it all in one go.

Starting today Southwest credits no longer expire, so if you have travel funds / credits that are set to expire soon my advice is to use them to book any flight and then cancel them. Your travel credits will have no expiration date.
:edit:
Apparently any unexpired funds will also have no expiration. I swear the site did not say that earlier today!! But that makes life easier!

Sounds like an internet or web site issue. Are you sure you aren't missing a required field? Check the expiration date of the card, sometimes they require you to enter the full year or a slash. I book via Southwest Hotels regularly and don't have any issues.

Starting today Southwest credits will no longer expire - but they have to be created from today on. Earlier credits keep their current expiration. My advise to you would be to book any flight with your credits and then cancel it - you will be able to use your credits without any expiration dates.

how do we know we got checked in automatically, though? Yes, it was verified that I paid for Early Bird and it was on my ticket, but how do I know? If I still have to click "CHECK IN" at the 24hr mark just to see my position, how do i know I didn't just check in right then? There is ZERO assurance that you can know for sure. For all I know, I checked myself in and that's why I have the Group B boarding spot.
With Early Bird you will be checked in automagically "before" everyone else who checks in at the 24 hour mark - your position will certainly be better than those who have to check in to get their position. You can test this by checking in well after the 24 hour mark - say an hour or two or more later. Your position should still be relatively good which means Early Bird worked. Otherwise you'd be in the Cs.

If not, how do you get vouchers?
Vouchers aren't always guaranteed, especially high value ones that they offer at the airport to "take an alternate flight." But if the initial flight was cancelled, why were they offering vouchers to switch to another flight? Everyone would have to go to another flight in this instance, so I'm not sure why anyone would get a voucher *unless* Southwest was not able to accommodate you.

I'd still say that generally flights are still experiencing delays and cancellations - I wouldn't consider the airline industry out of the woods and "normal" yet, not by a long shot.

Passengers were causing the delay? What?
Also: the entire airline industry is experiencing delays and cancellations thanks to something called a global pandemic. We are going to have ripple effects from this for years ...

Just flew from Philly to New Orleans to Nashville and back (arrived home yesterday) and all the flights were great! The flight to New Orleans was shockingly empty, I think there were less than 70 of us on that plane and they made us all sit in different sections to disperse the weight! The other flights were full. The only questionable flight was the one from New Orleans to Nashville because of storms but it left on time!

Those bags are absolutely the WORST bags to use as check-in bags. This is because the conveyor lines have doors that swing back and forth to sort bags. When these guys get caught by one of the doors, the door doesn't stop and will crush it
There's your answer. Southwest had nothing to do with it.

Yep, this isn't a Southwest problem at the end of the day, it's a PHL problem, and I'd argue the early morning hour was also a problem. I don't think this would have happened at, say, 3 in the afternoon. But thinking about it more, I'm curious why the plane didn't try to go to another gate. I assume because there were no other gates available ... but still.

No one refused to help me because there were no employees there to assist. We literally let ourselves off the plane.
Well, 99.9999% of the time that's how it works. Flight attendants don't generally assist people off of planes to my knowledge unless you are deplaning via wheelchair (and I would be so interested to know how they got off the plane in this situation). Everyone else normally deplanes themselves. Obviously exiting a different way is a different situation, but still, is "assisting" deplaning passengers something a flight attendant would generally do? I would argue it isn't, really, unless once again you *ask* for help.
