For future reference, "upgraded boarding" availability is only available if the flight has NOT sold out of all the Business Select tickets, (A1 to A15.) If there are available slots in A1 to A15, the day of the flight they will sell you the upgrade. The upgrade will be charged to your RR credit card and then credited back on a separate line item, (at least that has been my experience historically).
Hope this helps

It's unfortunate the fares changed while you labored to enter all the data, but airlines now change fares anywhere from one to three times a day.
That being said, Southwest offers a way to enter "frequent travelers"(up to 25 different individuals) information into your Rapid Rewards Account Profile, so it quicker and easier to enter multiple passengers when buying tickets for family and/or friends. Works well for me.

Without seeing/reading the promo myself, hard to say for sure. I would imagine if you use the code it will only work on a single transaction so you would need to buy all 7 tickets on a single reservation.
That being said, since it appears there is a 3 month spend requirement, Chase may not issue the coupon code for 3 months even if you achieve the spend in 1 month, that plus the the time to get the card could realistically equate to 4-5 months before you get your coupon? (that is a guess) I would be hesitent to plan a trip for 7 around the assumption I will have a coupon that I don't have in hand.

Check the small print on that promo, I don't think it counts to CP or tier qualifying,
"Bonus points are in addition to the standard flight points earned through Rapid Rewards. Bonus points will not count toward A-List, A-List Preferred, or Companion Pass® qualification."
I could be mistaken but that's pasted from the promo

I feel your pain but really cannot agree with your assessment of SWA's policy.
#1. You showed up late. SWA starts boarding their flights 30 minutes before departure, Atlanta TSA screening takes anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes for TSA-Pre. Regular screening I could not even guess how long it takes. Plus the tram ride and walk to the gate = NO chance of making it. If you attempted to check bags that was likely the catalyst for the ticket agent saying you were too late, but you did not say if you had baggage so that is a guess on my part. Not Unfair on SWA's part, you were too late and you knew it since you went to the counter.
#2. You were at the ticket agent counter and elected not to change your flight to the offered 09:45pm SWA flight AND you did not cancel your flight. Why Not? Instead you elected to use another airline to get to Richmond. So YOU walked away from the counter without cancelling your outbound flight. Again Not Unfair.
#3. Your reservation got cancelled because you did not cancel your outbound flight per SWA's policy. This is 100% your responsibility. Again Not Unfair.
I do wish you safe travels, but the responsibility for your situation is looking back at you in the mirror.

When you check-in your baggage initially, the final destination airport should be on your baggage claim ticket. If it's not may be you purchased 2 separate flights? The 5 hour lay over seems out of the ordinary so please confirm it with the SWA agent when you check your bag

Rick8132, would a pretrip to the airport with a buddy be practical for you? Seeing the Checkin and TSA process in advance of standing in line may aleviate potential anxiety. I doubt an accommodation will be made for you that guarantees no one will touch your stuff because security is for the common good, but you do not get unless you ask.

Miami to Orlando?
The Brightline Train Boondoggle From Miami to Orlando begins operation in September, should be plenty of seats multiple times a day, until the government funding runs out in a couple of years.

Safe travels on Frontier, enjoy their baggage fees and be aware that their gate agents now recieve additional financial compensation thru paid commisions for every carry on baggage fee the gate agent collects.
How will you deal with the 24 hour purchase restriction? Per Frontier's rules you can only "buy" your ticket one day in advance of your planned travel? So no roundtrip tickets.

I can empathize with your rant to a point. Using the adjective, "Horrifying," to describe your boarding experience, is to put it bluntly, over the top. It's pretty clear who "gets it" (understands) the boarding rules at Southwest and who does not "get it," based on the adjective used in your post.
I "get it" that you will not be flying SWA and I wish you safe travels on Spirit Airlines(?)

I'd still go back to the boarding pass if you're filling out an electronic expense report, (Concur, Corpay, etc..) for work. The Boarding pass would show you "upgraded" and you could type in the fee, code it as your company directs, add a note about the details in the transaction.
If you are documenting it for cash reimbursement from a company that may be a bit sticky, but you still have your CC statement
Best of luck

Best of luck to you Dave, but phone conversations by themselves, in my experience, are the worst possible avenue to resolve an issue. Please make sure when you have a phone convesation you get follow up with electronic communication outlining the specifcs of the conversation, Date, Time, Employee name & number, what exactly was discussed, what timeline for resolutoin was agreed upon with the SWA rep, and next steps(or communication.)
A phone call with out documentation will likely be useless.
Hope all works for you

Pretty limited number of flights go in to Pennsicola, so coming from the west coast likely causes a connection issues dependent upon the time of day and the time zone difference. SWA also may be shuffling flight times and that contributes to the lack of options too.

SWA will get so much more creditability if they are straight with their Customers. Here's to hoping for more tranparent and proactive communications on their part

Everything I read in this thread leads me to believe terminology being used by the OP and others is being perceived with different meanings.
I do not see anywhere where the OP actaully says he or is wife hold a "Companion Pass" I just see the word companion used repeatedly.
I do see the the OP mentions purchase of Anytime "Fares"(Plural) in September by his wife. This to me has the meaning that there were 2 air fares purchased. Should they be sequential on checkin? Probably if they were on the same reservation, but we do not even know that.
Then another poster uses the term "Companion" to denote the support person that accompanies him when he preboards.
There's alot cross usage of the word "Companion" in this thread, resulting in more confusion than clarity. just my 2 cents

Although it is not important here on this message board. I hope you wrote down dates, names of indiviuals, and times of your interactions. Having this type of information at your finger tips often goes along way to forcing accountability in follow up calls and communications.
So instead of "adding more detail" a resolution can reached.

If she is not a A-list member she would get a boarding pass based on when she checks in. You as a companion of a non-A-list primary flyer, that's a good question 🤔

I feel your pain relative to purchasing EBCI. My opinion of EBCI? Is that EBCI is the single greatest profit center Southwest ever created. It is not a good value for almost any passenger purchasing it, unless you want the only thing it guarantees, that your boarding position will be secured prior to the 24 hour check in time and you will not get a lower position if you check in later.
That being said, a Business Select Seat is NOT a bargaining chip for Family Boarding. If a SWA gate agent makes a deal with you, unfortunately you are part of the problem with the Southwest boarding process not part of the solution, because you are not following the Southwest Boarding Policy and you are literally Slighting(cutting in front of) every passenger from position B-1 back to the C boarding positions on your Boarding Pass.
What ever you decide I do wish you Safe travels

Best to contact SWA in advance and get guidance(and document who gives you the guidance) before you show up at the airport for travel.

A good rule of thumb is to keep an eye on both your Rapid rewards acct. and your SW Chase acct. Throughout the year there are often promotions that allow for extra points to be earned that you just need to register for. They all add up

For better or worse, Southwest is trying to turn planes as quickly and efficiently as possible. Having a Q&A session with every person requesting to preboard slows this process down. That being said:
It is legal to require a preboarder to provide 1 of the listed reasons per the DOT preboarding rule and guidance memos to preboard:
"The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-boarding rule, which is found under 14 CFR 382.93. It instructs airlines: “As a carrier, you must offer preboarding to passengers with a disability who self-identify at the gate as needing time or assistance to board, stow accessibility equip or be seated.” The US DOT also goes on to state in an additional guidance memo dated May 29, 2013 & issued June 29 2013, "For a passenger to be entitled to preboarding, that passenger must self-identify at the gate as being a person with a disability that needs to preboard for one of the above-listed reasons.”
It's right there in the guidance memo, Southwest gate agents could ask for the "reason" a preboarder requires to preboard, but the ensuing converation would only delay overall boarding and ultimately turning the plane.
