Age cannot be considered when hiring as it is illegal. The exception is where the position has age as a limit and meets Federal guidelines. An example is a new enrollee at the FBI where the age is limited to 37.

We went to Birmingham AL Friday evening, returned Saturday afternoon.
When I went to check in at Birmingham, the check in agent was fiddling with my bag and I placed my ID and boarding pass on the top level of the workstation. The check in agent looked at me and said "hand me your ID please". Being confused, since it was right there within about 10 inches from her hand, I must have paused long enough for her to repeat, "hand me your ID please".
What's up with the inability to move your hand 10 inches and pick it up? I've encountered more and more check in agents who behave in this manner. Is any of this Southwest policy?

Yeah, I saw that too. I wonder how many people are in the wrong areas only to have their flight compromised.
The northeast travel was completely empty, while the other area was rather busy. I learned as a freshman in high school that if you have an imbalance in your procedures like that, you have inefficiency.
I welcome the opportunity to debate the genius at Southwest who engineered either or both of those processes. Give me a day and I'll attend a live podcast debate of the issue.

Now you stand in line to use the kiosk and then stand in another line waiting for your turn for the next available agent. You end up hauling your bags all around the airport and there are TWO DEDICATED EMPLOYEES to just managing the traffice.
Restore the prior system where you approached the baggage check as soon as you were done with the kiosk. Your changes are inefficient and take two additional employees to manage.
If I were managing operations locally, I would be holding people accountable for such nonsense.

Southwest is complying with Federal Law. On other airlines, those that preboard board first.
The issue is OPEN SEATING where the preboard also ends up with the best choice of seats.
Soon all of the preboards will be assigned boarding positions and the remaining six people will walk on the plane after.

Keep in mind that "Family Boarding" does not equal sitting together. There is no provision for assigned seats so the idea that you board between A and B groups is only beneficial if you have a higher B or C boarding position. If you already have an A boarding position, then you don't need family boarding.

What an adorable little face! From the visual, it looks fine to me.
I am guessing that this counts as a carry-on item so the question becomes is it the right size.
Someone more familiar with the policy can help here. But for me, I'd be okay with it.

We've covered this a hundred times. In fact, I'm recommending its own category.
Under current Federal law, an individual who "self declares" with a disability becomes eligible to preboard. The law does now qualify which disease or condition is a disability. In fact, you can do acrobatics and back flips all the way to the gate and then "self declare" as an individual with a disability, then preboard. The only remaining question is whether you need a wheelchair, or not.
Soon, the preboards will be assigned boarding positions and the remaining six passengers can just walk on the plane after the preboards.
The issue goes back to open seating. Yes, open seating is just that. Whatever seat is open is yours. The perfect storm is that preboarding on Southwest allows you the best choice of seats. That is not the problem of the individual preboarding, that is the Southwest way.
Myself, I am seeing more and more wheelchairs and that is how to be first on the growing preboard list. So, ask for a wheelchair if needed and you are first on board.

It is psychology of people. Boarding you know that you are in for an hour and a half or two hour wait. What's the rush?
When the plane lands, you know that you have to get where you are going so you're off!
It is that simple.

File a complaint with the local airport authority as well as the US Department of Transportation. Also, notify your state's US Senator of choice.
There is no excuse. It is my hope that they fine them $5MM for such a fumble. Unacceptable.
Also, notify your local Fox News channel. See if the airport administrator then comes up for air.

I looked for the same thing and never found anything.
I set a reminder on my phone for check in and the moment the minute arrives, I check in. Sometimes the system rejects it as the clocks are not in perfect synch and it sees my check in as early. Redo the check in and it goes through.
Nearly all times I receive a B boarding position, B20 or close. That tells me that the flight is probably full and also that a lot of people used the same technique.
I wish that Southwest would end the madness and just sell the ticket and price it on the boarding position. That way, your check in had nothing to do with the boarding position.

Yes, that is correct. Myself, I wouldn't have a problem with the turtle in a carrier. However, you have to manage it somewhere.

Southwest is not going to add an airport just because someone finds it inconvenient to drive to the nearest airport. Market dictates where Southwest serves.
Similar to the endless discussion about Knoxville TN, which didn't happen even after a multi-million dollar renovation of the old airport, Southwest did not join.
By voicing your concerns directly to Southwest, they will certain look at market conditions to justify whether joining that airport will make any sense economically.

I have concerns that all of this exception to the boarding rules deteriorates what makes Southwest special and also efficient.
Everyone wants to basically choose their seat, whether it is to abuse the preboarding policy and get on first or fuss about sitting together to the point that Southwest keeps accommodating all of the complaining. I believe in what Nixon called "the silent majority" where most people are just fine the way things are. A few very loud people are disrupting the business model to the point that Southwest will be just another airline.
It also appears from my recent flights that the gate agents at MCO have been told to follow the policy and that includes "family boarding" and the number of carry-ons, as well as size. I haven't seen any riding lawn mowers, pianos or bass boats carried on the plane lately.

There is no systematic issue here whatsoever. Federal law, The Air Carrier Access Act, provides for those that "self identify" with a disability to preboard. It doesn't matter what airlines, you can preboard.
The issue here is OPEN SEATING which has been previously pointed out.
Yes, you can buy the lowest cost ticket and "self identify" with a disability and you preboard.
Southwest can do nothing other than to go to assigned seating which I don't see happening.
Yes, soon the boarding positions will be for preboarding and the remaining six people after the preboarding will go on the plane unassigned.

Go the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and file a complaint. If the gate agent cannot recite the policy correctly, they are incapable of doing their job. We already have enough conflict with boarding, let alone raising the age for family boarding to 12.

Seems to me that we get the same question three times per month.
When you cancel your flight, yes you get credit for what you paid. When you book your new flight you pay the PREVAILING RATE at the time of your booking.
These prices are not frozen in time. If you book today, check the pricing as you go and if the price drops, you can rebook at the new rate and obtain a flight credit. If it goes up, you sit quietly.
Please - someone - help me understand why this is so difficult to comprehend?

I have to say, I was critical of Southwest after the Holiday DISASTER but continue to support them as an enterprise.
I would generally describe Southwest as a friendlier airline, but yes, nothing is perfect. Lately, the delays have been widespread.
When I need to travel, I go right to Southwest's site and keep the points racking up. The two bags really makes life easier too.
