Since you completed the qualifications for the A List match To get the status after the match expires (March in your case) you would need to qualify for A List by the end of December this year or take 25 flights next year before your promotional A List expires or you would have a gap while you earn it next year.

When connecting to an international flight you won’t need to go though security a 2nd time. returning to the USA you would need to claim your bags and go though customs if the airport you return from isn’t a pre clearance airport. Some places you do customs before you board heading back to the USA The Bahamas is one example
you would show your passport to the agent in PDX when checking in and again when boarding the flight at MDW but nothing further would be required until you get to Cancun where you will do customs.

So most likely that is because the layover is more than 4 hours that is a TSA thing and has been a thing on every other airline for as long as I can remember the difference is southwest used to only sell flights with layovers under 4 hours that changed when they upgraded the system a few years back.
The 4 hour rule is also a thing for how early you can check a bag if you got to the airport more than 4 hours early you had to wait if you planned to check a bag.

Another thing to keep in mind this plan could get messed up should IROPS occur (say the first flight gets canceled and they rebook you on a non stop to your original destination) maybe you have less chance of that getting messed up going to Hawaii but stateside they could connect you elsewhere

Thanks, sound like that's the way I should do it. I think it will work if I buy my wife's tickets with her points and then when I get the Companion Pass, get her ticket and then cancel her flight. That seems like it would prevent getting shut out if there is a perfect storm and I cancel and then no tickets available for the Companion.
Correct won’t matter who’s points you use to hold the seat until you get the companion pass.
**if you don’t have enough points you could book the Wanna get away + fare that way the funds are transferable or book the anytime fare so you can get a refund when you cancel the seat

So book a flight with the voucher then cancel it the funds will be tuned in to a travel fund which no longer expires.
I would book WGA+ fares that way you can transfer the funds if you need to later
the expiration date on your rapid rewards account would update a day or 2 later

You could pay for upgraded boarding at the gate which gets you in the A1-15 group and after travel send an email to southwest requesting a refund because something may have failed with the EB. Could the whole flight be full of A List and EB passengers sure do I think it would be enough to get you C29 no. When sending an email include the proof of EB purchase so they can take that in to consideration when looking in to things
did you ever cancel and rebook after you bought EB if so you would lose the EB check in but if you make a change at least 36 hours before your flight you should still Keep the EB

Could that be because you used travel funds and a LUV voucher?
When you use a luv voucher then cancel it becomes a travel fund regardless of what other payment method you use to combine with the voucher (for taxes since luv vouchers don’t cover taxes)

Ok so I just put it to the test
I booked a WGA+ fare using a travel fund and LUV voucher then I canceled it at first the expiration date said date of the voucher overnight the travel fund changed to the December 31st 2040 date.
so you can keep your LUV voucher transferable by booking a WGA+ fare and if you use it then cancel the flight that credit will be valid forever (until they change the system)

If you have a layover you could gate check the walker if it would be of any assistance to your mother that way you have it on layovers (if one exists) or you get it at the gate for use to head to baggage claim. If you don’t need it you can check it to baggage claim and use the wheelchair service instead.

Someone needs to be the first to try it. Let us know how it goes.
The only disadvantage I can think of is you lock in the name of a specific passenger for the travel credit while a voucher can be used by anyone.
--TheMiddleSeat
If you book WGA+ it would be transferable so name not locked in when you use voucher as long (as a RR account exists)

Assuming seats are available you can book a flight online up to 1 hour before flight time on domestic flights but I wouldn’t wait that long to book if you know you will fly in the next year you can book now and if you don’t need to fly cancel up to 10min prior to the flight and you will have a credit for a for flight within a year of when you booked. You could also book the WGA+ Fare and those funds would be transferable should someone else want to use the funds on another flight
you could also book Business Select and it would be refundable if you need to cancel b(remember business select isn’t a business class like you find on Delta)

Each person would have their own rapid rewards account so she can have her own not required but earn those points it’s free.
when you say young traveler I assume you mean over 11 years old if so you can go to the ticket counter and ask for a gate pass and they will assist you (assuming young isn’t over 18 years old) they will need your ID to create the pass and you would need the ID at security
be sure you arrive with enough time to go though security
also let this be a lesson for your kid don’t stress and make it a scary experience maybe arrive with extra time to walk around the airport so they can get used to it and if they want to explore let’s them with you behind them that way they might be able to do the airport on their own next time like see if they can find the gate without your help (even though you will be there this time)

Yeah I’m not sure how it would work because the few times I’ve had companion pass I didn’t run in to a sold out flight (because I look at seat availability when booking to avoid that) maybe it would still be there and say failed no availability.

I think it would only apply when you both have A because the ops agent has no idea if you were booked together or just got lucky and got boarding numbers next to each other. They look for the A List mark it won’t show them your traveling together even though you may have the same last name.
The best option at this point is the old saving seats method

In addition to what was mentioned already did the whole $250 voucher work on a flight for 2 people taxes might exceed the $47 so that one voucher might still have a few dollars left (every cent counts) don’t throw it away/delete the email until you make sure all funds were used.

Have you checked your spam/junk folder? Did you confirm with the agent on the phone that they have the right email address they will usually send the voucher to the email associated with the reservation that they are issuing the voucher for if you traveled with others you might have them check their email
the subject should say here’s your Southwest LUV voucher (maybe do a search in your email for that in case it was looked over)

Hello fellow AUS traveler
At this time I’m not seeing any non stops from Austin to New York (LGA) maybe it will come later on bit in the meantime maybe send an email to Southwest and let them know you would like a non stop from AUS to LGA and you never know if demand is high is could be added even if seasonly.
AUS is growing big time for Southwest and American Airlines they will compete on some routes I think American might do a non stop to EWR or LGA but They are also competing against United since that is one of their hubs at EWR so not sure how they would do on that route.
