I've done the pay more to get more points for hotels and ALL points counted. Buying points through SW is a different thing.

While I agree there seems to be a lot of issues flying these days, but staffing problems are a continuing problem with ALL companies, not just airlines. In our area, food places are also closing earlier and often unscheduled because they are short staffed. This isn't just a SW issue.

Try making a game of it to see who can wear the mask the longest (and start this when you book your flight - don't know of many booking flights for their 2 year old the next day so should be plenty of time to play the game and learn to wear it). Make it fun for them and they will wear it. Why do we make excuses that my kid is only 2 and can't wear a mask. Do they wear the clothing you put on them while you would fly? would they wear the shoes you put on them for the flight? would they wear a coat/hat/mittens if you told them they needed to because it was cold outside? If you answer yes to any of these and more questions, they can wear a mask if you tell them to. They are also not asking you to tape the mask to their faces, so there is room to leave a little area for extra breathing if needed.

I am in no way trying to make excuses for all of the cancellations with SW lately. But, something to keep in mind... The weather delay is most likely where your plane was coming from at some point through the day, which delayed their departure and snowballed for the remainder of the flights it was originally scheduled to fly that day. We had a flight scheduled over spring break one year, and it was cancelled because of weather in Baltimore, not Ft Myers where we were. Our plane could not leave Baltimore that morning, hence the cancellation of our flight and others through the day. Sorry for the inconvenience this week!

I have had that same issue BEFORE Covid of not being notified. But I did find out by looking at my app, so all ended good.

If you are looking at this on the website, be sure to click the "return" tab to see your flight back home. When you first look at your trip in your account details, it only shows the departure flight. Hope this helps!

from my experience, those points change often. both up and down in #'s of points. When I find one with a large amount of points, I always book it (usually I book ones with free cancellations). Then I keep checking to see if maybe it ever increased in the number of points and make a change if so. I do this with everything, hotels, car rentals, and flights. 🙂 It's all a part of the travel game for me once we decide on a trip location.

I'm not a fan of purchasing points, but the points I accumulate via the SW credit card, or shopping portal, or for dining cost me nothing to get. These points are a benefit for buying something I was going to buy anyway and also allows me to obtain the companion pass! While the value of the points has decreased, it still allows my family of 4 to fly essentially for free. I'll continue to keep my business with SW because of this and am thankful for the rewards.

@dfwskier " IMO the only reason to have a Southwest credit card is to earn points toward Companion Pass, and not for any other reason.." Agree that we use the card to earn points toward companion pass, but you also get the benefit of all those points accumulating to use for the companion pass holder to fly free also. 🙂 I highly value the points I get for just buying every day items that I would be buying anyway that allows our family to take many more vacations because we don't have to pay cash for the flights! Huge plus, even if you don't obtain the coveted companion pass!

You could book your companion's trip with points. Then it is easy to cancel (and get your points back) and add the companion in case the flight might sell out. When you call to change your companion on your companion pass, you can have the agent make the changes for the flights for your wife.

did you use the Promocode? I originally thought the same thing that the prices weren't that great. I assumed the promocode was automatically entered, but found out it isn't. You have to enter it! I just got back 13k points by cancelling and rebooking a flight I already had scheduled! Thank you SW!

For some reason, I can't get the Enter and Play button to do anything. I've double checked that I marked all fields and clicked the box, but can't get it to enter me... I've tried other browsers also, but no luck. Will keep trying!

"Which offer do you think is best?" For me, the 10k companion pass points would be my best option. I'm going to be close to getting CP this year and this would help ensure I get it. Let us know what you decide! 🙂

I noticed that my husband (my companion) was the boarding # right before mine over the last 4 flights we have taken and he checked in at least a few hours after me. Nice to be able to board together!

@PetertheProphet I was not dishonest in my post. We had no issues with anything. I probably could have added "we did not contract Covid on any of our 4 flights". Again, if the original poster had a problem with flying during these times, they need to find a different mode of transportation then. I personally feel it is safe to fly at this time. We both have our opinions and we both need to do what is right for ourselves. Are we to close the business permanently because of a virus? That is what will happen if we shut down until the virus is over (hint - it isn't going away, just like the flu, colds, etc.) TO this comment that I "willfully left out the fact that Southwest Airlines requires all passengers to wear face masks". No I didn't leave it out. It is understood by all who fly that they require all passengers to wear face masks. They post it everywhere, so I didn't feel the need to say it again.

Sorry your 3 friends contracted Covid. But I'd take those odds anytime! 3 out of the how many thousands of flight attendants on how many flights? I just flew 4 flights with my husband over the last month. No issues. Covid numbers are dropping significantly every day. Maybe now because the actual cause of the illness is being reported correctly and everything isn't Covid related. #MyOpinion If you choose not to fly because you don't feel it is right for you, that is ok.

be thankful you still have it. during these times, they could have taken it away completely. By the way, I earned it also. Thankful we still have the benefit.

Sorry, but if you didn't get enough points, you shouldn't get the pass. Not sure why everyone feels the rules don't apply just because you are "loyal". I've been in your shoes and short less than 100 points one year. I learned the lesson and never have done that again.

As someone that worked hard to earn the required amount of points needed to obtain the Companion Pass, I'm not certain how you feel you should get the "well deserved" companion pass if you didn't meet the requirements. SW already gave us 25k points to help achieve the goal, along with extending it for 6 months if you didn't meet the requirements. Sorry, but you didn't meet the requirements, you shouldn't get the pass. There are other ways to earn it besides flying. I do it every year (a lot of work, but doable). Hoping, for you, life returns to normal in a few weeks and you can then start traveling again to earn the CP for next year.

check your credit card statement. I've found the categories listed with the charge. I'm assuming if it says "grocery" on there, that is what will be given the extra points. If it doesn't say grocery, then it won't qualify.

I would book the flight with points and then once you are awarded the companion pass, you can cancel your companion's flight and add them as the companion. I would probably call SW and have them do this, especially if there are only a few seats left on the flight.
