I know someone that purchased a flight with a gift, covid hit and they cancelled and never rebooked later. Travel funds expired, money lost.
Never would have happened booking with points.

I just bought 20k points for $302 minus my $75 credit on my Chase card which I had to use or lose. 20k points for $227 comes to .011 per point. Without the $75 credit the points would be .015 a point.

Don't buy points if they are not on sale or some type of promo. If you pay more than .015 a point than not a good deal.

They have to be on sale or running a promo to make it worthwhile to buy, otherwise buying is not a good deal. I also get the Chase credit card when they have a promo, recently they were giving out 65k points when you sign up. You can use the card for all your purchases to accumulate points or cancel it after you get the points, wait the 24 months and get it again. My wife and I fly 2 or 3 times a year and have not paid cash for a flight in many years.

Buying points is a wash if you can buy them on sale, currently they have 45% bonus. Not such a good deal if not on sale or promo.

Buying points for .015 a point is basically the same as paying cash with the benefit of having a ticket purchase fully refundable. Pay in cash and cancelling gets turned into travel funds expiring in 1 year.

I have the Chase Southwest Priority credit card that gives me $75 Southwest travel credit every year. So, I was wondering if I could use it towards a points purchase. With the current point sale and using my $75 credit it turns into a decent deal.

I used to be able to watch the free movies with my Samsung tablet but the last year or so I can't. Every time I try, the movie tries to start and then a pop up comes up and says something went wrong. SW claims the problem is with my tablet. My wife has no problem with her Apple Ipad. I have no problem with the free tv.

Unless prices in Orlando drop drastically in the next 2 weeks I will end up using my former employers corporate code. I am going for 22 days and will end up paying $732. Last year I went for 21 days and paid $550 with no code. Booked through Dollar in 2020, using Enterprise this year.

My last rental was June of 2020 from Alamo in LAX and they had low inventory. I ended up with a premium car for a full size price. I know also that a lot of the companies have merged and there is not the competition there once was.

I realize this post has nothing to do with SW but needed a place to vent. Anyway what's the deal with the rental car prices being so high. I have a vacation scheduled for late February in Orlando and I have never seen prices this high. In the past if I was diligent about checking prices every day on the SW site I would come across a fair deal sooner or later. This year I am paying twice what I paid last year for same times and location. I have been checking prices now for over 6 months.

Last year I was delayed for 3 hours. SW compensated me $100 for the inconvenience. I had just retired from a job that paid $21 per hour. I was thrilled to be paid $30 an hour to sit in the airport.

My original voucher was $100 with expiration date of 3/1/21. I booked a flight that cost more than the voucher and paid the difference with my credit card. I had to cancel the other day so now I have the $100 plus the additional costs which was $42 converted to travel funds in my account that expire 3/1/21. There is $142 travel funds in my account, when I call after 3/1/21 SW hopefully will give me a 6 month extension.

No- I did not get a new expiration date but the funds are now one lump sum and not broken up as one part voucher and the other part travel funds. Hopefully they will extend the total 6 more months when I call. The person I spoke to at SW said they would.

I am in a similar situation. I used my voucher plus credit card to book a flight. I later had to cancel due to covid concerns in CA. I called to cancel and money went into my travel funds which expire March 1. They told me to call on March 2nd and they could extend the travel funds for 6 months. It looks like the voucher and funds were combined into one lump sum in my account.

Call Southwest the day after they expire and ask them to extend them 6 months. Make sure you have the confirmation number they were issued to.

Why can I buy a ticket for someone using my points, but if I want to give my points to the same person SW charges a fee. Am I missing something here?
