I would wrap the folded beach chair in beach towels and then pack it flat in a cardboard box.  You can strategically make a cardboard box to custom fit it by using one or two other large cardboard boxes that are cut to size and securely taped together.   Write FRAGILE in red on all sides of the box.     To avoid excess size charges, the finished box will need to be equal to or less than 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width).   Also be aware that you will not be entitled to reimbursement or compensation if it is damaged, as this will be a situation where limited release of liability applies.   Safe travels! ... Is this still accurate. I have a LUV Voucher in my wife's name, good until this coming Aug. And like the OP, I would like to use it towards a flight for my mother to come and visit. It has a Voucher Number and a Security Code. If I can, can she make the reservation in her SW account and just enter the Voucher Info. May be I was too vague in my original post , my trip is for pleasure in January, the week after this new ticket window opened up, to the Caribbean, for a Saturday to Saturday vacation. For work purposes, I agree, the sweet spot is about 4 to 6 weeks out, but in this case I am going to bet the fares won't being dropping unless another "shutdown" happens. Why? The hotels on this island are mostly booked up at this point and the rates have escalated based on the availability/occupancy for that week in January. All those folks are flying there.   BTW, for this particular itinerary as of this morning the Wanna Get Away and Plus fares are now gone and there only 3 Business Select Fares left on the outbound flight. You get better value on flights with lower fares since the taxes & fees represent a larger portion of the cash fare, which you don't pay on a points booking. (Even higher if you factor in the Companion Pass, which some bloggers do, but which isn't particularly useful for anything other than allowing a high points value claim.)   Back in the good old days, savvy travelers often realized points values above 2 cents. For example, when Southwest makes changes to the Rapid Rewards program, which historically tend to be implemented about every 2 years.
