I don't know what the heck is going on. This is another promotion that I've not heard anything about. Yes, I'm signed up for every notice process possible with SWA. BING! 🙈🙉🙊 I need to get with it.

I will reply here to tappingmom1 and you. While I agree with you 100%, I also know that when I'm frustrated that people fly by me 25 miles over the speed limit breaking the rules, at some point, there is a chance that they get caught and ticketed. But your points are well taken and I appreciate it. Mine, (and others) like yours, are comments to be taken as constructive and use as we wish. My comment is about voicing an option that could be considered for all those that can't control their behavior and take their own safety into consideration. I doubt SW wants anyone to take the, "well don't fly then," approach.

I earned it early this year, had 5 flights booked that all we either cancelled on me or had to be cancelled. I ended up with thousands of dollars in credit an not extension of a Companion Pass, when those whose pass expires this year get an extension. That's not equity! Did Southwest prohibit you from taking your flights? If not, I don't see how the airline is responsible. By that logic, Southwest shouldn't have extended anyone's Companion Passes (or A-List status). But they did. The point being made is that all CP holders received some sort of accommodation, except those who had earned it this year.

@gsking wrote: I'm trying to just end this since you need to be right. And seem to have finally admitted you don't know what SW will do. Even though you can't bring yourself off your pedestal enough to understand that consumers don't care about your legal definitions. They care about what their dollars will buy. But really? The details haven't yet been announced, but I suppose it's possible Southwest might only allow the airfare portion of travel funds to be converted, since the tax portion is fully refundable. Fully refundable? Maybe legally, but it's NEVER been offered back. So why do you make these statements? Are you trying to confuse people? They only refund the 9/11 fee. The other taxes are NOT fully refundable, not now or in the past. Let's just ignore this discussion until SWA makes their offer. Then we can argue the merits of converting based on value. Oops, based on worth. I'm so sorry, I seem to have upset you. That was never my intention, so I apologize. I was just trying to have a rational discussion. You're absolutely right that taxes and fees are not refundable on cash Wanna Get Away fares. (I've edited my post.) I book mostly WGA fares on points, or Business Select cash ones, and for these the associated taxes and fees are fully refundable, which is probably why I was confused when making that comment. I've always prefaced my comments, from the beginning of this conversation here and in other threads, with the qualification that the details of what Southwest will do once the Travel Funds to points conversion becomes active are unknown. Hopefully, once that happens, we can continue the discussion in a more cogent and less emotional manner.

Just look at the idio...er....people and shake your head. Maybe eventually they'll get a clue. So far, in my experience, they won't. At least most of them won't. They are gleefully oblivious standing 2019-style up against their neighbor. More reason to grab a window seat. No butt in your face, ever.

Sorry to hear about your experience...but wow, you certainly had me captivated. Sadly, this sort of story is all too common these days, but it definitely makes a different impression when related so eloquently. Forceful in its softness, if you will. If you needed a job selling ice to Eskimos, you could probably get it. 😉 I hope your next flight is better. If I find myself sitting next to you, I expect a good yarn.

This seems to happen to me often enough, usually due to flight changes or other issues which are even more common these days. As stated, your safest fallback is a phone call. But also trying the website vs the app sometimes clears up the issue. Not so easy these days when we're all running around on our phones, but worth a try.

At that point, facts are merely roadblocks. Given the dearth of facts in the original post, I think it's ironic that you find no roadblocks to making your assumptions. Note that earlier my statement said "presumably." I consider it the height of hubris for anyone to say they know exactly what is going on from a single post. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope they do condone it. If you find it unprofessional, fly a more boring airline. If you find it dangerous, stop worrying about what other people do in their spare time. Or you better start complaining about every extreme sports video on the planet. Didn't you realize they are all much MORE dangerous? Sigh...

As you probably know already, middle seats are open through July. And social distancing will be followed during boarding. But apparently Covid has a parachute and jumps out just before landing. Because social distancing isn't the slightest concern during deboarding. Amazing how mindless people get as soon as that seatbelt sign goes out. Sigh... even a global pandemic can't remind them to relax and be the slightest bit courteous. I hope the FAs will start reminding people.... hopefully with just enough SW snark to make them think twice before making a mosh pit in the aisle.

Though it seems logical to have people stay seated, they are still rather close. Being seated would be better. But, reality then shows if everybody stayed seated until the row ahead of them left, the de-boarding would take much longer. Ever watched how a few people never begin to get thir bag from the overhead, or get other stuff together until time to leave - and make EVERYONE else wait while they deal with things. Drives most people (me) nuts. Also, some of the people in the back would just stand up and leave bypassing those that are following the "rule". Just not going to happen.

You all are on the right track here. SW should consider not everyone wants a drink coupon. I'll just say it. I love to have a beverage, but don't because I don't want to be stuck up in mid-flight with the "fasten seatbelt" sign on and stuck holding it in for the next 40 minutes. I know, it's just me and my weak bladder, but it is what it is. I would gladly take a free wifi voucher any day, and then buy my own drink if that happens.

@clarined wrote: In conclusion: you can extend a LUV Voucher to 2022 by purchasing a flight and canceling, thus receiving travel funds. The extension won't happen instantly (may take up to 5 business days). Note that you won't be able to use travel funds to purchase for another person as with LUV Vouchers. My experience is that the revised travel fund date does not appear on the date of cancelation, but that it does the next day. I've seen that twice. I suppose the process is handled via batch processing as opposed to real time processing.

That list is only relevant if you book late. If I book 2 weeks out, then I might get a wanna get away price, meaning less populated. Understanding that it's not just, breath, that you can contract it from, all could be on hands, clothes, (we now know shoes track the virus in), and so on. In most cases, I'm sure all people will take precautions with not touching you, but inadvertent touching and rubbing happen. I've had a middle seat and have gotten accidental contact from both sides. Unless gloves are passed out as you board and discarded as you exit, there can be a contraction of the virus that doesn't come from a breath or a cough. I'm not taking sides, (well a little bit) but I'd not sit next to someone right I didn't come with, sorry. You do have a point, and we appreciate your comment.

Let's look at the odds in total. Try to follow me here, because it's statistical logic that's hard to follow. Option #1: The chance of you avoiding the virus until then, but getting it on your layover, and having bad results (ie. bad symptoms, no therapy figured out by then, etc). Option #2: Everything else. Getting it before then, getting on one flight vs. the other, having a vaccine or other medical solution by then, etc, etc, etc. In other words, the likelihood after the fact of saying "If only I'd taken the direct flight" is vanishingly small. You're talking about September. Things will be different. And hopefully the direct flights will be back by then.

@GoodIdea - I was talking about this same idea with a friend over the weekend, asking him how much extra he'd pay for a "first-class" seat on a plane of ONLY "first-class" seats.
I think it's a cool thought exercise, although we did end up in the same place of needing to charge very high rates. I'm really not sure if it'd be more affordable for the Passenger than if they bought first-class on an airline with economy seating. I don't know much about airline accounting, but I assume the money is made on economy seating, which allows first class to be more affordable than if it were a plane full of first class.
All that said, if your scenarios were true, I would absolutely choose Option B - flying "first class" (I know we're only talking about room, not the other amenities) for $150 sounds amazing.
