No assigned seats. You pay extra for early bird, and then wait in the terminal and watch the ever-growing line of pre-borders, line cutters, seat savers. Always a gamble I’m where you will sit no matter how much you pay for your ticket. I have found two ways to deal with this. Either, just don’t wanna bother you, which is what I’ve been doing. We’re flying on airline about you reserve your seat in advance..

I hope you will contact SWA and that they will do a better job of enforcing the masks rules for everyone. But as long as people continue to fly, even with children and infants, during the pandemic there is no real incentive for SWA to do anything but sell tickets.

I remember when SWA used to give off boarding instructions. As the plane taxied to the gate the stewardess would say, “Please remain seated until the Captain turns off the seatbelt sign. Then everyone jump into the isle and push and shove your way to the door. Remember, the harder you push the faster you’ll get out.” True story.

Don’t ever connect to free wifi anywhere. Bad guys can easily set up hotspots with the same name as the legitimate free wifi and steal all the information on your phone while you browse the SWA app or anything else. Grt an unlimited plan from your cellphone provider. Free wifi is never worth the risk.

IMHO SWA is one of the very best rewards programs simply because there are no restrictions. Like any program, you need to know the rules and yeah, you will lose your miles if you don't use them by the deadline.

"family obligations, deaths, " These two are optional, in my opinion. That is to say I don't have any family that would object to my not wanting to fly with a child during a pandemic regardless of the obligation or funeral. Everyone views things differently of course and everyone's situation is unique.

Yes. SWA should alter their mask policy to have anyone not properly wearing a mask on the plane or otherwise failing to follow the Flight Crew's instructions met by police when the plane lands. Whether you think masks are effective or not is not the issue. The issue is whether or not you choose to follow the rules. If you don't you shouldn't fly.

I am sorry to see SWA stop the empty middle seat policy but only because I liked not having someone sit next to me. Anyone worried about the virus should probably not be traveling. Or fly Delta, at least through March.

If you are concerned then fly Delta. Delta is blocking middle seats through at least the end of March, 2021. https://news.delta.com/deltas-safety-measures-personalized-experiences-and-exclusive-gift-ideas-bring-comfort-and-joy

This happens for two reasons. There are no consequences. Gate agents, flight attendants, etc., can treat people as badly as they like and SWA does nothing to correct this behavior. And, people in general lack the courage to stand up against this kind of behavior. God forbid you miss your flight for trying to defend an elderly person against this abuse. SWA, and all other businesses will continue to do nothing. It’s up to each of us to put a stop to this kind of thing. Speak up. Stand up. Don’t be afraid. Yeah you might get kicked off the flight. And maybe, hopefully one day soon, when that happens, everyone else on the flight will get and walk off as well.

I think SWA just doesn’t do enough to manage their employees. There are no consequences for this type of behavior. Unless those consequences come from us by no longer flying SWA. Or maybe they’ll just take another three billion dollar grant via the CARES Act.

You can control this yourself. Or, at least to say I can. I take a window seat midplane. I wait until the isle is clear of people, then I deplane. Costs me ten minutes at the most. Often less. Window seat, no one in the middle, also guarantees no one’s butt in my face 😎

I fly SWA because of their strict mask rules. Young children and those (including "adults") with mental or emotional disabilities should not be allowed to endanger everyone around them because they can’t or just won’t wear a mask.

Purchase some Dramamine before your flight and bring it on board with you in case you start feeling ill. Also, buy a role of mint lifesavers and eat some before takeoff. This is always helped me. Your fear is perfectly normal. I suggest you try to get the first flight out coming and going as this will decrease the chance of delays. Get nonstop flights if at all possible. To me, it’s worth driving an extra hour to get a nonstop flight. Avoid checking luggage if possible as well. Bring extra credit cards, a couple hundred in 20s, a couple of blank checks, water, snacks, and masks. Make sure your phones are fully charged and bring headphones. Download the SWA app before your flight so you can use the free video and other fun things during your flight. Arrive early at the airport so you don’t have to rush or worry about TSA lines. When you get settled into your seats take a look around the plane. Look out the window and into the cockpit while the door is open. If you find yourself feeling anxious say, “stop!” And take three deep slow breaths. First time flyer fears are perfectly normal. Everyone on the plane was a first timer at one time. Enjoy the experience.

I sat mid plane by the window both ways. Emergency row 😎 When we landed and the seatbelt sign went off I just sat and watched as most the people shoved their ways into the narrow isle and struggled to retrieve their oversized bags from the overhead compartments. No thought to social distancing at all. In less than five minutes they were off and I pulled my one duffel bag from under the seat in front of me and walked off without shoving or bumping anyone. I fly alone and sit by the window. No butts in my face. No one grabbing the back of my seat as they pull themselves through the isle. With the middle seat empty I had the row to myself both ways.

Just got back RT BWI to LAS here’s what I saw. BWI walked through TSA with no delay. Airport was like a ghost town. 90% of the people I saw wore masks. Lining up to board in groups of ten with no regard for boarding pass number within the line. For example, 31-40 (which is announced 1-40) number 40 can be first in line. on the plane middle seats empty. Everyone had a mask on. I saw at least three people not wearing masks during the flight. No one challenged them. Same thing on the flight back. If you are worried about the virus then you should stay home. Otherwise, happy travels.

Isn't it against the law to ignore the instructions and requests from the flight crew in the air? Why not have these morons who won't wear a mask met by police when the plane lands?

You can upgrade your ticket to Business Select, assuming those fares are not sold out for your flight. This will get you a A1-15 boarding pass and extra miles for your account. You may be able to pay at the gate for a better place on line if you don’t upgrade. But remember, it’s open seating. If your flight is connecting from another city they may already be people on board before you board. And, all seats arrive at exactly the same time.

‘bout time. Now, let’s see SWA follow through and have anyone who takes their masks off during the flight, other than while eating or drinking for a very short time, met by police on landing and charged with not adhering to the flight crew’s directions.
