Seems like the forums are still here for the moment, thankfully or I would have missed this post! It's been great chatting with you all over the last several years and being a part of the Community! The Community Champs are going to live on in some fashion, the program is not going away despite the forums going away; we may end up being active on various SW-related social media channels, so be on the lookout for us 😉

This is unfortunate, but I am not sure that this is a Southwest Hotels/3rd party problem, but a problem specific to this particular hotel being closed due to hurricane damage. When you originally booked and pre-paid, was it non-refundable? Many pre-paid options are listed as non-refundable, and are a bit cheaper as a result. Obviously this situation should be an exception to that rule because the hotel was closed, but that may be a reason why they are not refunding you. I generally pay a little bit more for the "No prepayment needed" option, and I am charged when I stay.

It's highly likely this is what they will do, in my opinion, but everything remains to be determined.
Having assigned seating will eliminate *a lot* of drama. Nearly all "complaint" posts on this board, besides pandemic-related stuff, has been all about saving seats and pre-boarding. All of that is going to be eliminated with assigned seating.

Carry on baggage is out of control in my opinion.
I have flown round trip recently, on both flights it seems everyone is carrying more and more stuff onboard. On the return leg of the trip we were delayed because people were going back and forth inside the aircraft trying to find overhead space for their bags (suitcases). It was just crazy.
I've learned to pack extraordinarily light - my smallest suitcase is 16" and can fit underneath the seat in front of me. I remember going on a flight (not Southwest) where overhead bin space was "full" by the time my group boarded, and everyone "had" to gate check their bag. I knew my suitcase was small enough to put underneath the seat, but many others were complaining so loudly that they had to gate check their bags when I am almost positive their things could have fit underneath the seat.
The point is: put things underneath your seat! Not everything needs to go overhead.

So you get the change option but with a charge? I had like 6 flights all changed August-October all no longer have the free change waiver on them
when I reached out on X they just asked what flights I want. I asked if it’s a glitch that the self service option disappeared they didn’t respond
That is correct. The "A Change Was Made" email instructs:
If your new itinerary won't work, you can change your flight date and/or time by up to 14 days from your original travel date at no additional cost. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to visit Southwest.com/rebook and enter your name and confirmation number.
Going to to link above and entering the flight credentials brings up the flight in question with an option to change the flight. Upon clicking the "Change" link, the module that shows appears identical to a routine Change Flight module where the difference in fare is posted.
It should be free when Southwest changes your flight schedule and you want to change it. When you go to change your flight, the selections simply say "Available" with no prices shown, and you can change your flight at no cost.
I believe it was a glitch that the free change option was not displaying for a little bit a couple of days ago. But this led to my question of: is the free change option "always" available? I feel like in the past there was definitely a time limit for when you could make the free change, but the e-mails never specified a time limit.

Printing tickets is a thing of the past! I don't even think there is an option to print tickets anymore when you check in online; you just go to the airport with your form of identification. If you are checking bags, go to the counter. If you *want* a physical pass at that time, they can give you one. If you already have it on your phone (via the Southwest app or southwest.com, and you can also add the boarding pass to your phone's "wallet"), you don't need a physical copy.

The life hack I've learned for solo traveling is don't worry about early bird so much. You can almost always get a window or aisle seat as a solo traveler, even if you are not in the A group. I used to purchase EB, but no longer do. Then again, another hack is to purchase Anytime fares with EB included, so you don't have to worry about it 😄

Open seating is open seating. There are no assigned seats and no rules as to what seats you can save for others. Someone saving seats in the exit row (perhaps for a spouse or kids or even a friends group) is hardly reason to complain that open seating is "BS".

50 minutes is short but typically fine as long as there are no delays taking off. Your bags are automatically checked to the final destination.

Why would you think that Southwest should take expired coupons.
During the “pandemic years” Southwest did take expired coupons for awhile.
Would be nice if they didn’t have an expiration date at all, but wishful thinking.

This is definitely an anomaly, and not the fault of Southwest, but of Booking.com which operates Southwest Hotels. Your real issue is with them.
Whenever I book on Southwest Hotels (which is often), I never choose the nonrefundable / prepay option, I instead choose the "no prepayment needed - pay at the property" option - they don't charge me until I arrive and stay there.

Honestly, does it really matter if the line isn't 100% alphanumeric? Depending on people's luggage with them, who they're with, etc., the line tends to get out of sequence for a number or two. It's never bothered me.

This is a simple misunderstanding of the Southwest boarding policy. You are not assigned seats. It is first come, first serve. A group boards first, B group boards second, C group boards third and last, and by that time, most aisle/window seats are taken. Now you know for the future. You could have gotten around this by purchasing early bird, which gives you a better boarding position (but even then it is not guaranteed, if many others also purchase early bird).

American Airlines checked bag fee is now more expensive, company announces
Checking a bag on American Airlines will now cost you more than at every other major US airline.
The carrier announced Tuesday that the price of the first checked-bag on most flights is increasing to $40 for customers that didn't prepay online. It will cost $35 if paid online during check in. That's as much as a 33% increase from what it previously cost on American Airlines: $30 for both methods.
Flights within and between the United States, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands are all affected by the price increase. American has also hiked the price of a second checked bag to $45 (up from $40.)
Other routes are also getting price increase, too: Checked-baggage fees on flights between to and from the US to Canada, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America destinations now costs $35 (up from $30) and the second checked bag fee is $45 (up from $40).
Changes are effective for flights booked beginning Tuesday. Passengers that bought tickets prior to this will pay the previous prices. Flyers that have an airline-branded credit card, buy tickets in premium cabins or have status are largely exempt from the price increases.
American didn't immediately respond to CNN's request for comment. The changes were reflected on its website as of Tuesday.
American's largest rivals, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, charge $30 for the first checked bag and $40 for a second on similar routes. However, it's not uncommon for them to follow since that has happened in the past.
The price increase comes at a time when airlines are battling rising fuel and labor costs. American (AAL) revealed in its earnings last month that its net income plunged 98% for the last three months of 2023.
U.S. airlines make a ton of money these fees. In 2022, they made a record $6.8 billion on baggage fees, according to the most recent data from Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

I hope Southwest never starts charging bag fees. They are so ahead of the game in this area compared to everyone else.
