The gate agent is CORRECT. The Southwest rules support TSA rules are for one piece of luggage and one small personal item. Two carry on items where both are luggage is NOT ALLOWED.
TSA regulations limit carry-ons to one bag and one small, personal item. If you're traveling with a pet, carriers are counted as either your personal item or carryon.
Being annoyed with how people abuse the carry on count and size policy, I am drafting a legislative proposal that all items coming through TSA be scanned for mass (size) and rejected right there at the TSA check for either oversize or over count.
The process would be to refuse the individual and their "stuff" from proceeding, referring them back to the original point of entry to check their luggage. There would also be an administrative fee of $250 assessed for every passenger impacted.
The objective would be to allow smoother boarding with less grappling over the bin space and to improve the air travel experience for passengers, like myself, who are weary of people bringing their riding lawn mower, tool box, kids pay set, shopping bags and small pianos on the plane.
I am writing this proposal for introduction to the US House of Representatives and is designed to hold accountable those who continuously push the envelope.

Your experience is unacceptable. File a lawsuit in small claims. If there isn't enough concern to give you a LUV voucher, let the ace legal team explain it to a local judge.

You need to file a dispute of the charge with your credit card carrier. For this one, call it in and then follow up in writing. Stop wasting time calling Southwest. Your issue is with the credit card.

Completely unacceptable. I would write to this week's CEO of Southwest and demand that you be compensated for luggage, time and trouble.
When I hear these stories, I am disgusted.

You can buy, under your name, as many seats as you want. However, being one person your carry on and pets are limited.
From a technical perspective, if you name the passenger as say "Fido Jones" or "Misty Jones" and have a valid government issued ID, I suppose they can board as passengers. If they are very young cats, you could also argue that they are below the age limit of needing and ID and Southwest would have to prove through DNA that they are not human but indeed, cats.

I completed an intensive study of this request a few months ago, which included calls to both Southwest and to McGhee Tyson Airport (Knoxville) as well as independent research.
In short, there are no immediate or foreseeable plans to add Knoxville TN to the network. Even after the airport spent millions in a renovation, Southwest didn't even blink.
On a personal note, I do not want Southwest to add Knoxville TN to the network as there are far many other airports where we, as shareholders, can do better financially.

There is a reason that certain credit cards offer travel interruption protection and those travel interruption insurance policies still exist.
Every traveler should be aware of the benefits of their credit card (if ticket bought via that card) as well as other financial protections that they either need to buy or be at risk to cover.
Flights are cancelled or delayed all the time for many unforeseeable reasons. There is no recovery of dollars available, in my opinion.

It is nothing but a mess during boarding. The intent is small personal carry on items, not something to heavy that you need wheels.

In short, no.
No airline will cover those costs. Things happen and you know that when you buy the ticket.

Luggage with wheels needs to be checked. Carrying it on the plane is a pain for everyone.

In my experience, the app will log you out if you do not start the app from time to time. In other words, if too much time goes by and the app is not used, then it will log you out.
I have no idea the time sequence but that has been my experience.

In recent flights, Southwest is seriously "cracking down" on family boarding, number of carry on items and size of carry on items.
Check the bags and forget it.

I am not understanding how you were "humiliated"? They show you a damaged piece of luggage and give you the limits of their liability on the spot. You can file claims for billions of dollars in damages yet the contract you agreed to has a limit to the liability.
Anyone who travels needs to be aware that expensive luggage and expensive items inside the luggage are subject to damage. Therefore, have luggage that is cost-effective. As an alternative, see if your homeowner's insurance or any benefits on your credit card cover the luggage and contents that were damaged.

If you announce a full flight at the gate, you will encourage a rush of everyone wanting to preboard.
Best to figure it out after preboarding.

I am a lifelong fan of equity and common sense. Let me first say that I conduct myself within the realm of "reasonable expectations". For instance:
I don't go to a steakhouse and then ask for a vegan menu.
I don't go to a Kia dealership and look for a new Mercedes.
I don't go to Starbucks and look for a cheap cup of coffee.
I don't fly on Southwest and expect to choose my seat.
Today we are living in times where everyone wants the world to be reformatted around their view of what is right, regardless of what they have chosen. This thinking, and behavior, will only continue to the breaking point when a business has to raise prices to combat the constant defenses to their operating policies.
Southwest needs to continue with open seating and if anyone wants to "sit together" after the seats are mostly taken, they can exit the plane and receive a refund of their fare, then, choose another airline with assigned seats.
Problem solved.

Yesterday I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. I spent the entire day there, when they opened at 10 AM and closed at 5 PM. It was quite an experience!
For those who have never been, I highly recommend the visit. The trip from MCO to SNA is long but Southwest gave us an enjoyable experience on the way here. The flight crews were great and it was an easy, but long trip. Today, I start the return journey.

Under the Air Carrier Access Act, you can self-declare as an individual with a disability and preboard. There is no proof, no medical exam, no committee, no documentation.
You can do back flips, acrobatics and gymnastics all the way to the gate, then self-declare, then preboard.

There were complaints voiced that people were being held "hostage" until someone changed seats. Yes, this will become a legal issue. Detaining people against their will invites legal consequences.
Unless you were on the flight, you did not hear the complaints that came to my ears.

Compelled how? I'm not moving my seat so that they can "sit together". Southwest has open seating and if you want to drag me off the plane in handcuffs for not moving, then do so.
From my perspective, the group in my case should have been removed from the plane for failing to follow flight crew instructions. They were told to take the first available seat, not banter and hold up the flight crying about wanting to sit together.

We just had this "sit together" issue become a major legal issue for Southwest. I was on a flight and a flight attendant said that they were holding the plane until two people agreed to change seats so a family of a father and two young children could "sit together".
Holding the plan and making those threats is NOT Southwest policy. The flight attendant will ask and if there are no takers, then you choose the first available seat. Failing to do so is failing to follow flight crew instructions.
It is my understanding that there are several complaints on this very issue.
If you want to choose your seat, other airlines offer that very choice. Southwest is open seating.
While it is likely you can sit together, you cannot jeopardize the entire flight and passengers to compel others to give up seats.

We've discussed this many times before. There are a few threads on this subject.
I've called Southwest and also the "airport" there in Knoxville. Despite spending MILLIONS to attract Southwest, they are not interested.
In enough time, anything can happen. However, it is not in the cards for the foreseeable future, according to the research that I did.
