Yeah, I'd be worried sick about this one too.

There are posts about this going back to 2014. The issue here is not preboarding, the issue is OPEN SEATING.
Southwest has a policy of open seating. On every single airline, the preboard goes first. On other airlines, they go first into their assigned seats. On Southwest, they go first and get the best choice of seats.
Soon all of the preboards will be assigned a boarding position and the remaining six people can just get on the plane afterwards.
Until Federal law changes, this will continue unabated.

There are flights. The US State Department gets irritated with US citizens who travel there. Be ready for some level of questioning on the return trip.

Speaking for myself, and I'm sure others who will agree but won't go on the record, I am beyond tired of people dragging their entire inventory of items as carry-on items. Check those items.
Air travel is becoming a chore because everyone gives their kids two carry on items and the boarding process becomes a circus.

Yes, I believe so. As long as they don't add Knoxville, I'm a happy guy.
There isn't any reason to be in Knoxville anyway.

First, if you did not know that you are allowed only two carry on items, you must be new to flying. Every airline that I have ever flown restricts you from bringing your entire kitchen, garage and workshop on the plane. It slows down the boarding process and is a nuisance.
In order to make your claim, you need to have proof that it was in the bag in the first place. It would be easy for anyone to claim that someone or somehow their Rolex watch is now suddenly missing. Myself, I do not believe any of these stories about items stolen from luggage. How in the world would anyone know that an item of value is in your bag? The luggage crew hardly has the time to inspect each piece of luggage and their work is on video.
Your loss is only what you claim it is. There is no proof.

Early Bird Check In is not worth anything.
You are essentially making a donation to Southwest's bottom line and get nothing in return. Set a reminder on your phone for 25 hours before the flight departs as a reminder to check in. Costs nothing.
There are too many complaints here that people use EBCI only to have boarding positions in the B series.
Check yourself in and be happy.

In today's age, there is absolutely no reason to work through a "travel agency" who has no more information or ability to book an airline ticket than do you. In LESS TIME THAN YOU SPENT WITH THE TRAVEL AGENCY, you could have booked your flights on Southwest, paid for them, earned Rapid Rewards points and had all of this done.
To me, this is a 1980s view of travel where you contacted someone to set it all up and get through all of the secret handshakes, etc.
I see that you were an author in your own demise.

Nearly all systems are abused. That's part of life. I doubt that you always drive at the posted speed limit and I doubt that your first class mail with standard postage is always one ounce.
With that said, no one is going to overturn the Air Carrier Access Act because of open seating on Southwest. If you want an assigned seat, there are other airlines. However, you will pay more.
I could have driven to the office today in an entry level Hyundai instead of my Mercedes. However, the Mercedes is much more comfortable, powerful and fun.
Southwest is the Hyundai of transportation in this model. No, you won't find high performance engines and premium leather on the entry level model.

I am not a Southwest employee but are a shareholder. I agree with the first response that Southwest cannot dedicate resources to looking for your item. If it turns up, they have a process to collect and route the item.
Your argument is similar to someone who runs off the road, ends up in the ditch, then blames whomever cut the ditch. The core issue would be that you lost control of your vehicle. In this case, you left your items behind.
Next time be more careful.

I really appreciate the advice. Even though the system shows "nonstop" flights, when I chose my travel dates in January 2024 none appeared. On the way out, I go though Austin TX and on the way back, I go through Phoenix AZ.
Looks like the Richard Nixon Library and Museum is within 30 minutes of the airport and the hotel that I am staying is about 4 miles from the Museum.
Many thanks for the advice. I'm looking forward to the trip.

I beg your pardon, but this has nothing to do with Southwest.
YOU LEFT YOUR PERSONAL BELONGING BEHIND.
It is not the responsibility of Southwest, its shareholders or employees to keep up with your personal items left behind on the plane. Next time, I would suggest that you take better care of your items.
This is not a failure of Southwest on any level.

I am of the view that if the event is truly traumatic, then file a lawsuit. You will have to decide where jurisdiction is for the event since the trauma didn't occur when you bought the ticket, but sometime after the flight left the runway.

EBCI also falls directly to Southwest's bottom line and does not provide any value, in my view.
If you have such high boarding positions after using the service, I'd suggest requesting a refund for the cost thereof.
