@dissatisfied999 wrote: Beware flying SWA! I flew standby and was given a confirmed boarding pass by SWA, out of Houston airport, with confirmed destination Kansas City. Flight had 1 stop with no plane change. SWA forced me off the planeduring the stop, in Albequerque, and refused me a flight to Kansas City until 24 hours later on SWA. I was stranded in Albuquerque overnight, and there was great need to reach Kansas City due to hospitalization of loved one with terminal cancer. SWA in Albeq offered me no assistance, hotel, food or even drink. I was forced to purchase a ticket on an alternate airline to get me out of Albeq the next morning. When I submitted this issue to SWA customer service, I was told too bad. SWA won't reimburse me for cost of other carrier's ticket. So, SWA issues a confirmed boarding pass to final destination Kansas City, and then lands me in Albeq and says 'we changed our mind, too bad', and dumps me in Albeq, forces me to find my own way home asap, and refuses to honor cost of my forced flight on another carrier to Kansas City. Spread the word - Be wary of flying SWA!! I hope there wasn't some mixup with the communication, I don't think the wording should have been "confirmed" for that ABQ-MCI leg. Lessons learned for anyone else trying similar: Standby on a connecting flight should be considered for the risk of that second leg - try to find out how many open seats there are if standby, or else double-check that you are confirmed for all segments. If there is a risk on a second segment, try to get stranded somewhere with more options to get to your destination. Hopefully the situation doesn't repeat itself for you, but for anyone else out there considering a standby with connection.

But there are no details. I even downloaded the "full menu" but it only includes a list of drinks, not snacks. Same with the inflight magazine. My flight is 3.5 hrs, 1300 miles. Does that count as longer, and does anyone know what might be available? There should be a page towards the back of the magazine, but anyway - I believe the long-flight breakout is for 2 or 2.5 hours, so you should have some choice of lorna doone cookies, fritos (gf favorite), and some other types of chips. Belvita crackers also and/or plane crackers. I concur to buy something more substantial, but not aromatic, at the airport or bring a packaged item as long as there isn't a liquid component from home. (Same thing for Wrigley Field - bring in a burrito!)

As long as you aren't in the ten minute prior to departure window you will be fine. And actually the fine print on points bookings is that the points would be returned, even for a no-show. https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/purchasing-and-refunds/index-pol.html Note that no-showing a flight cancels any future part of that reservation, if that applies to your situation right now.

Did you check it at curbside or the kiosks? I'm pretty sure the waiver is there somewhere, but when you gate check the waiver is on the gate check tags that they put on, and I've always been advised verbally of what it says. That's neither here nor there of course, what would you have done differently after hearing that - not take it with you? We've always used our stroller in the airport so I'm mainly aware of gate-checking for that item. For car seats we did buy a cheap model to take with us for travel in case of any event on the part of the airline or other travel related damage or loss.

There are lots of mentions online about using old passport and booking the ticket in the maiden name which seems to be fine. You don't need to show your DL to anyone, so that's immaterial. From this prior thread you may need to reach out to Southwest and change the name on the ticket: https://www.southwestaircommunity.com/t5/International-Travel/Name-mismatch-between-ticket-and-passport-maiden-married-names/td-p/56205 Also if you happen to have just purchased a WGA ticket within the last 24 hours you can refund it and then purchase the ticket again with your maiden name. (Or if you had Business Select or Anytime, or if you were flying on points...although separate issue if you have updated your Rapid Rewards account with new name that it won't match.) If you were looking at a year or two I'd consider doing the renewal. I know it would be painful to renew a passport that has 5+ years left on it though.

I let a customer service agent of the situation after the first leg of the flight.... well before the 10 minute requirement and she said "no problem." Now I am not receiving credit for any of the flights toward my A List. Blake in Customer service accused me of trying to get a cheaper fare by skipping the last leg. Basically called me a liar. Said I would have had to cancel the last leg before I got on the first leg - when I didn't feel ill! I hope this can be reonciled. That is a strange accusation, I haven't heard of hidden city ticketing being common on Southwest since the pricing is very straightfoward based on distance and demand, if you were buying flights before they start selling out it would be rare to find a connection cheaper than direct to that intermediate location. It seems to largely be an A+B+C pricing model. Maybe "Customer Service Blake" was concerned that you changed your mind to stay in the connecting city last minute, which would require a change and the current price was higher than when you originally booked the whole flight with both legs so it would have been a cost increase to stay there by officially changing the flight. Maybe it would help when you reach back out to explain the connecting city wasn't your destination and whatever you did after that to get home or eventually get to where you were going. Anyway - in addition to what "Community Forum Blake" @bec102896 and @Passenger1C said, try specifically at the customer relations number for action after a flight. Unfortunately if you did stay in the connecting city due to the illness, it probably is correct per the terms that due to the unfinished leg you don't get the A-list credit until it is resolved that the first person was supposed to change your flight, if they could. Since the cost may have been more to make a day-of change, in effect the staff may have offered the no-show option instead of current cost. I'm not sure if they have the ability to change it without a fee if the current cost is much higher. While you are standing there too ill to fly wouldn't be the best time to hit you up for current price of the flight either to make the change. One last point - hopefully this was a one-way flight or else this will affect your RT leg as well. (Always book one-ways.) I think the staff wouldn't have let you no-show the first part of a RT flight though if they new your later segments would be canceled but make sure if you have future travel that you are still setup.

Along with his carseat. I am "gate checking" the suitcase and car seat, but have a question as to can I bring his baby walker as another baggage? If so how would I go about doing that? It folds down is less than the measurements for b baggage. Any reason not to check the suitcase earlier in the process at curbside? I think you have two different issues here: Boarding the plane you can bring two personal items, plus a bonus baby item such as a diaper bag as carry-on. So purse, walker, and diaper bag seem to be OK for carry-on.* Checked baggage you get two free items included with your ticket, plus you can check two additional baby gear items for free such as car seat and/or stroller. (or the baby walker?) These items can be checked curbside, at the ticket counter, or gate check. Gate check is handy as it seems to reduce the already low rate of misplacement, other than you have to carry the items through the airport. ** * retail bags from the airport concourse are also not supposed to count i.e. you can bring a bag of food for the flight from the airport restaurants that doesn't count against you, unless it is stinky food. ** although the lap child doesn't get extra carry-on allowance, I was always under the impression that they could check up to two suitcases even without a ticket, having only a boarding verification document, separately from the two items of baby gear.

He'll have a regular "Wanna Get Away" fare or else one of the other standard adult tickets, so no worry there and feel free to book him online as far as I know you will be able to enter the required infomration online when you book: Here's a good summary of step-by-step activity: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/family/young-travelers.html His mom should ask for a "gate pass" to stay with him through the origination airport through boarding of the aircraft and hang out until the plane takes off. You should do likewise in order to meet him at the gate at the destination. As far as connections he's older than the age where you can pay extra for official Southwest assistance. If possible obviously a direct flight would be the best option, even if it costs a little extra due to demand. ($50 is what you would have paid for escort of a <12 year old, so on that order of incremental cost should be no-brainer to go direct.) The passport would be helpful to have for demonstrating age although photo ID isn't required, proof of age is required for Southwest. TSA doesn't require photo ID for minors.

The current 60,000 point offers say you wil earn 60,000 points after spending a certain amount of money (the amount dffers depending on th offer). You'd get the points after receiving the statement which pushed you over the spending threshold. Only Chase knows when that happens. Thus Chase controls when it tells Southwest to give you points. If you haven't gotten points, only Chase can fix the problem. The one exception to this might be to verify that your rapid rewards account is correctly associated with the card - i.e. that they didn't make a new RR account for you when creating the credit card. That would be the one likely scenario where Chase says "we sent it" and Southwest would say "we didn't get it yet" if it was in a different account, the points may be there waiting for you in a different spot than where you (and Southwest) are looking for them.

Southwest must have found some other routing that was appealing to them for whatever reason to get use out of aircraft, crew, and facilities. Hopefully you can find some connections that work, Southwest does also pride itself on the method of flowing across the country where you can often find relatively straightforward connections without a big wait time or much backtracking distance.

Not sure of the procedure.....do I still go online to obtain a boarding position 24 hrs before the flight? Yes - it is possible there won't be upgraded boarding (A1-A15) available when you arrive at the gate, so you should take every action that you normally would to get a good boarding position. @Lynncos wrote: And to obtain the boarding upgrade, do I go to the gate to purchase it using my Priority Card? Or can I just click on the Early Bird check in prior to my flight? You'll go to the gate to purchase - this is totally separate from Early-Bird Check In, this is to move up to A1-A15 spots, if they are available, where EBCI checks you in 36-hours prior and you get a variable position somewhere after the A-listers who are also checked in at 36 hours. I believe you can "always" purchase EBCI. Upgraded boarding is available when there are extra Business Select positions available, and perhaps some other variables. The cost varies on the flight. @Lynncos wrote: Also, my flight is a connecting flight......would that use TWO upgrades, or just one? Can I choose to upgrade on only ONE of the legs of the flight? Upgraded boarding will be to move to A1-A15 at the gate - it will only apply to the current leg, not the next leg since that boarding position is completely separate. You could do it for both using two upgrades, or only choose one, and depending if it was available and what the price was for each.

In the extreme case and depending on the value that you see, we have in our family had someone fly with the kids and then fly back. This works if you can get cheap fares in advance and stick to the schedule. Make it a day trip. I don't know of any airline provided option and I don't know why they cut it off at 12 years old. As long as you have someone to deliver and retrieve her, and inlcuding gate passes to go all of the way until the flight departs, and all of the way from when the flight deplanes the coverage is good if you can get direct flights. Give your daughter a whistle and tell her to use if if uncomfortable, make friends with the FA right away - bring some cookies or some snack to cement the introduction and she'll have plenty of friends onboard. If you or whoever does the drop off on the other end have the gate passes maybe you can screen the other passengers in the gate area to find a buddy there as well based on your judgement. Just throwing ideas out there - mine are 4 months and 3 years, so I'm a ways from having to navigate this issue myself, just trying to think what I would do if I was wearing the same shoes.

Do you guys still think it is worth it? Seems like yes, especially if you don't already have one of the other Southwest RR Visa cards. You can verify for yourself if the points you earned last year plus the likely reimbursements and discounts are greater than the annual fee. Then also if you bought all the same stuff on your Sapphire, what would the benefits be, is that more or less? The points may be more, but including the discounts and fee reimbursements may tip it over.
