I'm confused about the SAVE20NOW promo:
"Book with points and get 20% off base fare of your next flite. For travel thru 12/15/22."
So I read this as 2 flites involved: the first with points; the second with payment of a fare.
So, WHICH flite(s) have to be taken by 15 Dec 22?

I got it done! I completely cancelled the companion reservation (which is un-nverving and nerve wracking!). Then made my return flite change. And lastly added my companion back.
Thank you!!

OK....my 2 daughters and I have reservations to fly to Vegas, Friday to Sunday.
Daughter Debbie and I are booked on same PAID reservation/ confirmation #.
Daughter Susie is my Companion Pass companion, and booked on her separate confirmation #.
We want to CHANGE our Sunday flite to one later in the day.
Is this how/best way to do this:
On my paid reservation, for me and Debbie, I click Change Reservation, follow the prompts, and book the later desired flight.
THEN, how do I change Susie my Companion? Do I go into HER reservation with HER Confirmation #? If so, will it automatically load/prompt to ADD her to my new flight?
OR do I go BACK to my RR account, clicked Add companion, and go from there, etc etc??

Thanks and noted. I guess this is another example of gate agents inconsistently enforcing policy. Multiple times I simply asked at the entrance to jetbridge during Preboard announcement; and was happily accommodated by the agent ("of course Ms. Wollenberg"). This is my experience on other airlines also (American, Delta, etc). They do not require specific written designation on my boarding pass. If Southwest strictly does, then I guess gate agent should nicely and quietly explain this ("Maam, u need to get Preboard on your boarding pass. I'll let you board now, but pls keep this in mind for future flights.)"

I have a tracheostomy and carry medical equipment that needs to be with me at all times; so I ask politely to be pre-boarded on flites. During the past several flites, I simply asked the gate attendant and he/she gladly scanned my ticket, and I proceeded to board. Well, last week when I did the same, the gate agent looked at my ticket and loudly proclaimed "you don't have preboard on your ticket", and acted as if she was going to rebuff my preboard request. I said something like Maam, I need extra time and have medical equipment, and I've always just asked and was allowed to preboard. I even pointed to my tracheostomy tube in my neck. She rolled her eyes, scanned my ticket, and I moved on to the plane. After this unsettling incident, I realized that a Preboard designation COULD be placed on my ticket prior to boarding. So....on my flite two days ago, I went to the gate counter agent in advance, she put the Preboard designation on my ticket, and I was "legit" preboard. This wasn't, on this occasion, hard to do. But sometimes the counter is busy, wait is long to speak to agent, etc. So, my question is.....is there any way to set up my reservation with Preboard designation at time of booking? Like have it in my Rapid Rewards profile? Kind of like or similar to when a person requests a wheelchair/wheelchair assistance?

I have a Companion Pass (CP) and have not made a name change yet for 2022. My DAUGHTER is my companion on a booked flight in Nov 22. Can I today change companion name to my FRIEND; book a flight for me and friend in Jan 23; and THEN change name back to daughter for the Nov 22 flite? In other words, do I have to WAIT until Nov 22 flite has been taken, to change name to friend and book a Jan 23 flite with her??

For my SWA Companion Pass, I know that I cannot CHANGE companion name from daughter A to daughter B until my reserved trip with daughter A have been completed. But.....can I make multiple reservations with daughter A as my companion?
In other words, daughter A is my companion for a flite in August 2022. Can I make a reservation NOW for same daughter A to be my companion for a flite in Sept, Oct, Nov, etc?

I am a new Companion Pass holder (thru getting SWA credit card). I have made my first reservation using my CP; daughter #1 is my companion for a trip in August 2022. I want my daughter #2 to be my companion for a trip in September. Do I have to wait until all travel with Companion in August is completed BEFORE I can change my companion name to daughter #2? If the answer is YES, can I reserve daughter #2 on the desired flight using points (to hold her a seat), and then "convert" her points reservation to companion status? (OR pls advise how to do this, and in what order).

My Southwest credit card reimburses me for 2 upgraded boarding fees per cardmember year. Will I get reimbursed for purchasing upgraded boarding for ANY person's SWA flight reservation? OR for only MY flight reservation? In other words, can I purchase upgraded boarding for my daughter's reservation with my SWA credit card, and get reimbursed for it?

I have a first-time Companion Pass; earned with opening of SWA credit card. I need advice about how to book my flight for 3 people. Lets see if i can clearly describe:
Passenger A is me: I will pay for my flight (with travel funds).
Passenger B is daughter #1: she will be my designated Companion.
Passenger C is daughter #2: she will book with my Rapid Rewards points.
I know its advised to check and see if there are 3 seats on my desired flight. Its to Costa Rica and isn't until August. So I don't anticipate any problem with this.
But in what ORDER do you suggest I book? Since A is booked with funds, and C is booked with points I will have to book them separately. Or does it matter?
So, OPTION 1: book A & attach CP. Then book C.
OPTION 2: book C. Then book A & attach CP.

No that wouldn't be an issue. My backpack weight is pretty manageable in transit to baggage claim. Although most times when I gate check, I have to wait on the jetbridge while suitcase is unloaded; or retrieve it off the rack at top of the jetbridge. Its really a flight by flight decision for me, depending on whether I also have a checked bag. For my flite tomorrow I have boarding group B8; so I may board with the group instead of pre-boarding and hope a kindly fellow passenger helps me get my suitcase and backpack into the overhead. (My backpack has the DOT official Medical Equipment tag on it; so it qualifies for a second carry-on; and as such can also go in the overhead compartment)

Mostly I understand now that the companion pass is issued shortly after the statement closing date in which the spend requirement is met. Which COULD be 8-12 weeks IF the card holder takes 2-3 mos to meet the spending requirement. It could be short-er if spending requirement is met within first couple of weeks; which is what i hope to do

Yes, totally agree. I AM spending over $5000 anyway. Of course I wouldn't spend $5000 just to get a deal versus spending $3000 in flight purchases. I can do the math and make a strategic/smart decision on that. If this isn't a deal for you, so be it. But your situation isn't everyone else's situation; and I didn't ask for an evaluation of whether this is a good deal or not. This TOTALLY is a deal for me esp since I'm tired of my hubby getting the annual points on HIS SWA credit card - that I'm an authorized user on - and he never flies anywhere. I know I know I can use HIS points to fly me, but it just gets hairy doing that. As for my question and Middle Seat's answer (thank you)....I'm not concerned about getting the 30,000 points quickly. I know its all about the closing statement of the credit card billing cycle, and all that. I have travel funds credit I can use to purchase my future trips and/or cash and/or my existing points. Maybe my $5000 can post by closing date March-ish; maybe my pass will come Apri-ish (although kinda doubtful on that), and maybe I will hold off on Sept booking until April-ish.

Is there a standard/hard fast rule about who/when a bag can be gate checked? I have a tracheostomy and usually pre-board; and also chronic back issues and wear a brace to help me with the weight of my carryons. I have a backpack filled with my medical supplies, which sits atop my carry-on suitcase. It seems that some flights the agents invite/accept gate checks; other flights no. I would prefer to gate check my suitcase. The times that I have rolled it onto the plane, I'm usually in the plane without other passengers around - since I preboarded- and no on I can ask to help me. Let me add....some flight attendants are VERY helpful and offer to help me hoist my suitcase into the overhead bin; and some are either busy preparing for the flight; and still there have been a few who see me struggling with my suitcase and just watch me. Again, all to ask: what is the gate check policy, what to expect?

Realistically how long does it take to receive a companion pass? I was approved on 12 Feb for one of the SWA credit cards, earning 30,000 bonus points and a companion pass good until 28 Feb 2023. I have to charge $5000 on it by 12 May (first 3 mos). Its pretty annoying that the 3-mos-clock starts ticking on application/approval date; but I don't receive the physical card for prob 10 business days / 2 weeks or more. But, fortunately Chase emailed me and allowed me to load my credit card to Apple Pay and start using quickly; but good luck in finding places to accept Apple Pay. I would like to use my companion pass for a trip second week of Sept; and I'd like to book my flite as soon as the schedule opens for then (which currently SWA says is 30 March or sooner.) I have plans to make a couple large purchases totaling $5000+ purchase with my card in March. Will it REALLY take 8-12 weeks to receive my companion pass? If so, why does it take that long?

Does a CAC card show that you're an Active Component military servicemember? My hubby has a CAC card becuz he's a DOD civilian employee. I agree with your sentiments regarding not being in uniform. But why not show your military ID? Is there a prohibition against that now? On a side note, I always feel a bit slighted when I, as an Army Retiree over 20 yrs, are not included in certain military benefits. BUT.....only a bit, and then I think....well I'm still VERY thankful that our current active duty are afforded discounts, benefits, etc.

Southwest is supposed to known about/accommodate your individual vacation plans? What if the weather turns really bad on your departure day? Who are you going to be livid at then? All experienced travelers know these types of things happen and you can't expect your vacation plans to work out seamlessly; and you have to be able to adapt. If you're this livid for a domestic flight, don't even attempt to fly internationally.

Thanks, last time I just stuck a tag on it, closed it, and laid it on the belt. It arrived like that at Austin TX airport, but on the belt over in the corner, for odd/irregular baggage I guess. I may try to find a box/wrapping; but that may actually cause more headache in anyone handling it than just leaving it free. Its not high dollar, like a $20 chair at Walgreens!

I've done this before and was grateful they allowed it, even with the $100 fee. I fly other major airlines also. None of them have such a policy at all. At 365th day your credit is totally done and over. I don't consider this policy ridiculous at all.

Hi,
A few yrs ago I checked a beach chair on my return flite home from Florida. No problem whatsoever.
I actually want to check the same chair for upcoming trip back to FL. It meets the size/weight requirement for a free checked item; and lies completely flat.
For this trip my entire "load plan" for carry-on and checked items revolves around this chair!
Can anyone advise: would there be any reason currently why I couldn't check it again??
Susan
