I do not know if TSA would accept a student ID, since it is not on the "appoved list" provided in the other reponse, I suspect it would not. It certainly doesn't substitute for the valid ID listed at TSA - i.e. you can't just walk up to the checkpoint with it and expect to pass through. But it could serve as supporting information during a brief interview. Allow extra time!

A little off-topic, but astoundingly if you no-show a points booking you get the points refunded as well. When I go to change a points booking it tells me the refundable fare becomes non refundable so the $5.60 would be a travel fund. The points would still be refundable though the $5.60 is what I was referring to with the cancel and rebook for the funds to remain refundable. of course now that I think about it more In this case I would just hold the funds when I cancel and use it to pay the security fee on the companion ticket. rebooking a ticket to keep it refundable wouldn't matter that much since you would just use it right away. Blake Got it - that sounds right, the $5.60 would become a travel fund if you changed instead of rebooked. Like you said - minor impact as long as you were sure to fly the trip eventually after changing it one or more times.

The new trend is definitely away from the embossed text and changing to the printed text on the back only, although a couple of other cards I've seen still had some information printed on the front. The embossed text is more difficult to read, and costs more to make each card that has it, and the information is more secure by having all of it on the back when you leave the card face up at a restaurant or other public venue. Obviously there is some limited downside for any vendors that might need to take down the numbers during power outage, who won't be able to use their carbon copy readers, or some of the shady taxis that are still out there.

Or, conversely, that more people will now be checking themselves in right at t-24 instead of buying EBCI, meaning that your chances of snagging a good seat that way would decrease. Time will tell. I said something similar on another post - my reference point is compared to the previous pricing of EBCI, so any number of people that choose not to purchase EBCI under the new pricing improves the average position available compared to having that number of spots not being available. Competition might increase if people see more of a chance, although I would expect that the same people who were checking in right on time before will continue to do so, and those that were less rigorous about their check-in times will continue to be easy-goers - the average position won't probably be all that much better. Here's an article on the subject with some numbers...I was trying to do the math, but this is a helpful reference: https://www.dallasnews.com/business/southwest-airlines/2018/08/21/southwest-airlines-raising-prices-earlybird-check-routes 20 people buying it on a 737-700 with 143 seats is about 14% and 15 people on an -800 is 8.5% - so in that range of people currently buying EBCI it will be a little lower but even if half of the people stop doing it that's on the order of 10 spots...not a huge difference.

Additional thought - if surprise is absolutely the priority, book your own ticket on points now. Then when the reveal is made, update the RR number, add companion if seats are available. If not, you have a points booking as backup. Of course if you use fiance's points, then he'll get an email confirmation about the reservation as well.

He is the holder of our companion pass, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to do this so he doesn’t see it in his account. Can I book a flight in his name and not attach the RR number until closer til the date and then add the RR number and add myself as a companion? Or would it show up in his account if I book it in his name? Fun idea - I think this would technically work. The flight won't show up in his account until you add the RR number, and then you can add the companion pass ticket at any time, as long as tickets are available. Im also nervous about the flight getting sold out as it’s close to holiday travel. Is there any way to avoid the flight showing up in his account with the companion already booked though? This part is a little tough - if these are busy times for travel it may be a little uncomfortable waiting to make the companion booking. You may end up in a position checking daily if the originally booked flight fills up to catch any last minute open seats. My suggestion would be to come up with a "partial reveal" so that your fiance can be surprised to find a flight booked, but maybe none of the other details until closer to the trip?

Besides the fact that you might be separated in line, it is normal for your wife to login under her own RR account to access her boarding pass, check in herself, etc - the only thing she won't do on her own is pay for the ticket To enable that make sure you include her RR number when you book the companion ticket. It can be added in the profile, or call and add it to any existing reservations if necessary. Same for KTN / PreCheck if applicable.

The remaining 10,000 points would be fairly easy to accumulte in a timely manner. When should I apply for each card? After I meet the spending requirement for each card;typically when are they credited? To answer my own question; is this correct? I would think that I should apply for each card in mid December for the points to be credited in January 2019. Then the rest of the points should accumulate to the companion points as I spend. Read the fine print for yourself, but the common wording may be something along the lines of "bonus points earned after spending so much money in the first three billing cycles" - you can apply for the card anytime, but you need them both to hit in the same year, and if you are targeting a January milestone to have CP Jan 2019 through December 2020, then you need to apply for the cards so that the three month window includes January (and/or February, March) and that you'll hit the spending threshold for both cards separately during the same period, but not before January. Once you have the account, and perhaps when you apply, you can specify a statement closing date which may also be helplful to you. But really the key part of your question depends on when you'll hit the spending thresholds.

@chgoflyer wrote: With the recent price increase, EBCI for a family of four could add as much as $200 to your round trip. (Ouch.) My recommendation would be for you to forgo EBCI but instead check in right at t-24 hours. Assuming you're OK with the two sets of one parent/one child sitting separately (at worst) on the plane, I think you should have no real problems accomplishing that. If you're still concerned, immediately after you book add EBCI to only two of your tickets (one adult and one child). Then check the other two in as close to t-24 as possible. The first two to board can each save a seat for the other two (Southwest allows seat saving). If you choose seats near the middle or back of the plane, there should be no issues saving two middle seats until the others board. Good luck! This is a good point, the price will be getting up there a bit. In theory, the higher price will mean fewer people do it, and therefore the importance and benefit of checking in at T-24 will be increased since there will be a corresponding decrease in people that were checked in at T-36 due to the higher price EBCI.

@AjL91179 wrote: I have never been on an airplane, yet, I am traveling from Nashville to Dallas in 2wks by myself...I am terrified! A family member died in a plane crash, when I was younger, and it caused my fear of flying. Not trying to be a drama queen, but I broke out in hives from just purchasing my ticket. I would just drive to Dallas, but it's 14hrs from my home, and the thought of driving that far by myself also terrifies me. Guess I am just looking for any advice or tips on how to allay my fears. I thought about asking my Dr to prescribe me 2 doses of an anti anxiety drug like Valium or Ativan (1 for the flight to, and another for my return flight) but not sure if that is a wise decision or not. So...long story short, if anyone can offer up some advice I would greatly appreciate it, because I am kind of freaking out. Just absolutely terrified of all the myriad of things that can go wrong on a flight. Thank you. Sorry to hear about your family member. The industry is very safe today, here are a few ideas: If your doctor agrees with the prescription then try that. It is also possible at most airports and onboard to have an adult beverage if that would be enough to help you relax (regardless of the time of day) and you want a lower impact option. Don't combine them! Statistics are very good - 2.5 million people fly every day, and US domestic carriers had gone a span of nine years between the most recent fatal accidents. Engineering is also strong - all critical systems have backups, the 737 is a robust aircraft, can fly on one engine, etc. Maintenance is very thorough and the industry as a whole is regulated for many facets of operation. Searching the internet suggests having some relaxing music to play on your iPod. Maybe a book. Take deep breaths if you feel anxiety coming on. Have something to remind you to do that. I'd recommend trying to sit in the front half of the airplane just to minimize noise from the engines - although perfectly normal maybe you can avoid that extra sensory effect. On 737-700s seat 7A and 8F are "window" seats without windows in case it would be helpful not to see outside. On the 737-800 aircraft the windowless windows are 9A and 10F. You could also take an aisle seat if it helps avoid the window, although you won't be able to control the window shade then. Another idea to reduce anxiety might be to fly earlier in the day if possible. Delays tend to happen, and then cascade, so that you can minimize your risk of delay by flying earlier. This doesn't affect safety in any study that I've seen, but it may help you to avoid sitting around in an airport if there are delays that day. Also try to pick flights that originate in BNA and at DAL if possible so there won't be through passengers taking up the seats in the front half of the plane. Pay for the early bird check-in if it eases your mind about the boarding position. Hopefully others will have some ideas for you as well. As a "somewhat" frequent-flyer I encourage you to give it a try. It is a safe and convenient way to go on longer trips.

I believe if they do this at the ticket counter you can get your same number back. I'm not sure if that's a feature, or if it happens because everyone else is already checked in two hours prior so there isn't as much risk of someone taking your spot during the interval between deleting the boarding pass and checking-in for a new one. If you do it yourself now (a day ahead?) then it would be more likely for someone to check in while you were waiting and/or there's not a software hold on your position.

@dfwskier wrote: Morning. Assuming all four tickets are bought o one reservation, the chances are pretty good that the numbers will be consecutive. The way EBCI allocates boarding positions is by the date/time the EBCI was purchased. So if the tickets are bought on one reservation (one click of the purchase button) all four tickets should have an identical time bought. I guess there's a chance another customer could have hit the purchase button at exactly the same time as you do, which might upset the .process. If the 4 tickets are bought with 4 reservtions (and 4 different bought time) the situation might be different. Practially speaking yes - as @dfwskier mentioned there is always the possibility although small that something causes someone to end up in the middle of your group although extremely unlikely and maybe only as a result of a glitch - if that happens just ask them to go in front of you. Whether you get A-positions or high B-positions who knows. There wouldn't be a problem to get two seats together in that range of boarding position. And then worst case scenario if the plane was headed somewhere "conventiony" and full of A-listers, then ask the FA to help you get seats for the kids next to one of the parents, they will be helpful to have someone re-arrange if necessary - but buying EBCI for everyone should do the trick without all the backup plans.

Anyway - to solve your issue for next time - if you are using iOS always download your boarding pass to your wallet, or take screen shots. As you noted the airline app won't regenerate the boarding pass after the scheduled departure, so this comes in handy even at the airport during big delays. In the iOS app if you download to the wallet you'll be able to scroll to a second screen to get the beverage ticket. It won't show on the first page but you can scroll, or I forget if you click to "more info" or something that opens the dialog that shows the BS fare.
