Virtually all RR points earned are Companion Pass quualifying.
Only RR points earned by actually flying - plus those from Chase (1500 for every $10 000 spent) -- are A-List qualifying.

A-List status is dependent on date of travel and not date or purchase.
For example, if one has A-list in 2023, but not 2024 and buys a ticket with a 2023 outbound, and a 2024 return, then the former flight would have status, but the latter flight would not.
As to your situation, how did you obtain A-List? That might help explain what might be happening. You seemed surprised that you had status for your Chicago trip.

They're on all new Max planes they're getting . That started reently - exactly when? I don't recall. I think the first was Imura One.
Since the equipement requires different seats than before, I would not hold my breath for a fleet wide redo.

Don't feel bad about pre boarding -- and who cares ewhat anyone else thinks.
If you say that you want to pre board and are asked -- "do you just need more time?" just say no, I need to pre board. If you answer that question "yes" that's when you get re routed to between A- abd B boarding groups.
That federal law I talked about earlier also prevents any airline from questionin you about your need to preboard. They can;t ask for a specific medical reason. they can;t ask for a doctor's note. They care not allowed to question your need.
By federal law, you do not have to prove a need to pre board. You just have to declare you have a need. One adult can board with 2 kids - one of which is the 11 year old. The second adult can board with the third child. Again federal law says the airline CANNOT deny your request to pre board.
Pre board is before anyone else boards -- even A group.
If you pre board, you will certainly find 5 seats together - either 2+3 across a row or 2+3 one row behind the other.

The line immediately below the one where you pick the number of points you want to transfer reads:
Points transfer COSTS $5.00 for every 500 points, with a minimum transfer of 2,000 points.
You have to go past that line to input the name of the person you want to transfer points to.
Gimme a break. Open your eyes.
It's prety darn clear.

Sorry, but it could not be more clear.
When you click on transfer points, it asks how many you want to transfer. Pick a point number and it tells you how much it will cost to do so; like this
2,000 points $20
10,000 points $100
30,000 points $300
Southwest puts the cost right in your face while you try to transfer points. You made a bad decision. Own up to it.

Found this on reddit. It was nice enough that I thought I'd post it here. It is amazing what one can do with a long lens. It was taken by a person in Colorado Springs who said the plane "was way up there."

Actully, If I were you, I would go for pre boarding. The 11 year old qualifies, IMO. Why? Well one of the rules is the someone has a disability that requires a specific seat. He does: a seat not next to a stranger. There is no rule that says that 2 people needing to pre board can't be accompanied by one other person. Just tell the gate attendant that you have 2 children that need to reboard.

Rule of thumb:
NEVER put anything in checked bags that you really can;t afford to lose: valuables, meds, sentimental items, etc.
Not many checked bags get lost, but some do -- more than carry ons.

Southwest does not hide the fact tht it costs about a penney a point to transfer points. Since points are worth about 1.3 cents, you throw away most of the value by transferring points.
There are numerous posts here that say DO NOT Transfer points. Instead keep your points and buy points tickets for other people. That way you keep the full value of your points..
The rules for transfers say that they are not changeable and fees are not refundable. If Southwest had hid the details, I might agree with you. But Southwest hid nothing.
Next time READ the terms and conditions of things you want to do.

There are few ways to max out points with the airline itself -- there are with partners. Book hotels thru SW. Some offer outrageous point bonuses -- up to 10k RR points. Car rentals will get you between 600 and 1200 points. You can get points by shopping thru the Sw portal, and by dining at restaurants that are part of the SW dining program.
You can sign up for a SW Chase credit card - currently offering 75K RR points - with a spend requirement to get the points.

Southwest vacations is good - even great - when things go as planned.
Southwest vacations (aka Apple Vacation Group) - has an awful reputation when things do not go as planned. There are lots of stories here from people that lamented their decisions to use Southwest Vacations.
I personally would not use them.

Bear in mind that it is GUARANTEED the the worst EBCI boarding position will be better than the best one obtianied by someone that manually checks in.
The closer to departure date you buy EBCI, the smaller the difference becomes since EBCI boarding spots are assigned in EBCI purchase order.

If there isn't any, it seems this transaction would have been done more qickly and easily if booked thru southwest.com. You could have changed it yourself via web or app.

EB only guarantees two things
1) you don;t need to worry about checking in to get your boarding position
2) You will get a better boarding position than everyone that manually checks in
Whether or not you get a good boading position by checking yourself in is a function of
1) Destination -- places like Vegas and Orlando increase your risk
2) Time - spring break and holidays increase your risk
3) How close to EXACTLY 24 hours to boarding you check in -- seconds matter
Can you get a good ( A or low B) boarding position yourself? Sure. Whether you do or not depends on the factors listed in my second paragraph.

The rule for personal cards is no more than one points bonus within 24 months to a RR account..
I do not know if the same rule applies to business cards. I suspect it does as the RR points
post to your RR account.

I’m not sure of the exact procedure, but it seems that if there are only a few open seats available, then they are not assigned to standbys until the hour (or less) before flight time. If there are lots of seats available, then they may be handed out to standbys before then. How much earlier? I dunno.

The 75k points from your 12/08 statement will hit your RR account in 2023. So unless you find a way to earn lots of points this year (think hotel bonus points), you’ll miss out on CP.

Hotel points posting is completely unrelated to your credit card posting date.. if the hotel points put you over the 135,000 point threshold, yes you will get CP. whatever points you get on your 12/11 RR credit card statement will be additive to that

The seat padding in the 700 series tends to be more generous compared to higher-capacity models with additional rows. With fewer rows, there's often more space to allocate for seat comfort, allowing for slightly more padding in the 700 series seats. However, the exact design and specifications can vary between different airlines and their configurations, so it's recommended to check with the specific airline or aircraft manufacturer for precise details on seat padding in the 700 series.
Incorrect.
Instead of providing a gneric response, how about one that is Southwest specific. Here's mine (same as I said above):
Southwest does not put different seats on different planes. I buys one kind of seat. Newly bought seats (just one kind) might end up on Max8s or 737-700s or 737-800s.
