You pretty much nailed it. If there's somewhere you can go to get more value from the funds now than waiting for a later booking on your intended flight (and risking the price going up)... go for it. Good luck.

The simple answer is... when 65% off, the price you're paying for the points is about even. Nothing gained or lost. But... points to me aren't the same as cash. I never use them for myself, because I won't accrue MORE points or any A List status progress. I use them for OTHER people who don't need to accrue points or A list status. Or more importantly if I cancel that person's flight, I don't get any travel funds locked up with them. So having a stockpile of points in those cases is useful. From a cost basis, points can also save you some value on very short flights, since you don't pay taxes on that ticket. A $49 flight can be as low as like 3800 points, so you eek out a few more $ per point than using them on more expensive flights.

Lol I'm with you... really no point in arguing about it here. But that said, here in California vaccines are soon required for school kids and to go out to indoor venues in LA. So I'm willing to bet on them mandating it for air travel sooner or later. The odds seem to be swinging in that direction. The question then becomes... when does your vaccine expire? Mark my words.... it's coming.

My success ratio with internet on recent flights may be as low as 50%. It definitely seems worse than usual. Even on a Max, where I had none.

Um, listening to the CDC is doing "what you hear from other people", not following the science. If you haven't grasped the politicization of this whole issue yet, or at least realized that the science is at best unclear, conflicting, and often wrong...I don't know what to tell you. It doesn't mean I don't agree that the vaccines are the best choice for most people, but posting links on a message board (especially from the CDC) does little to support your case. Not to mention this whole thing is a waste of time because we all have no control over what rules SWA is forced to comply with.

So now the metric for regulations is "if you're in the minority, we get to impose rules on you because you're in the minority"? Wow. I thought we got past that sort of tyranny about 200 years ago. But it sure appears they're right when they say it's coming back. Never mind that we all flew for over a year WITHOUT vaccine and did fine. Now we're ACTUALLY vaccinated, and by some logic you're MORE at risk because 2% of the plane MIGHT not be, never mind the other 98%? I'm really not tracking with you. If you find that logical, you need to retake a class in logic, and probably statistics. And while you're at it, look for a class in American history in light of that first recommendation.

Entitlement? Do any of those jobs you listed require you to be away from home for months on end? Not to mention the whole combat thing for many of them... My takeaway is that Delta is collecting $200 of my tax dollars to carry a bag. That's the final straw for me. I'll gladly take a middle seat next to any service member, uniformed or not. Based on the last year and a half, they certainly seem MUCH less entitled than most teachers in my state of California. Doing everything you can to stay home and avoid teaching kids isn't my idea of noble sacrifice.

Nope. The extra ticket will be canceled. If you're Xtra Size, you can get a free empty seat if you ask. But I don't know how they check. https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/extra-seat/index-pol.html

I don't think you understand how their pricing works. Every five or ten WGA tickets sold and the price goes up. Conversely, if not enough seats sell, the price drops. That's when we rebook and get a refund. But keep wasting your time arguing about Covid since it seems to make you happy.

Why are we arguing Covid remedies here? Go fight elsewhere. The only thing that barely BARELY is on topic is if they require their employees to be vaccinated. They don't. If you don't like it, fly elsewhere. Cheaper flights for the rest of us.

Nonstop flights are harder to find these days. But your points won't expire. And flights booked with them are free to cancel. So you can wait to find value in them. I have 400,000 points. I use them for friends and relatives. Free for them, free for me.

You can carry alcohol past TSA in small bottles. The flight attendants won't allow you to drink it on the plane if they see it. I'm sure you can figure something out.

As an aerospace engineer, you should KNOW that the cargo holds ARE pressurized, as was correctly stated. Don't you recall what happens when the cargo door is left unlatched, the pressure bleeds out, the floor buckles, and the plane crashes? Pets aren't put in as cargo because SWA doesn't want the liability of caring for your animal.

Just to reiterate... it's your PHONE populating the calendar from your email. This is an annoying "feature" which gives you a snapshot of your original itinerary... regardless of whether it is changed by you or southwest. Better to use the app.

Almost. You don't get tier qualifying points....or any points at all... when you use points. But yeah, the sale price gets close to that 1.5 cents. Good use for your credit card reimbursement if you have no use for it.

Except... facts. If they were "able" to be super spreaders, that reality would have played out long ago. But it hasn't. So you can imagine all the grim scenarios you want, based on your notions of how Covid works. But that doesn't make you correct. Thankfully, the rest of the world doesn't react to your biased and fallacious view of reality.

It was your first opportunity to even THINK about flying again? Well, I guess you don't fly very much at all. As was mentioned, you had a year to rebook a flight. You don't fly much, so you didn't think about it. Oops. Yes, if flying is rare for you, you wouldn't pay attention to the details. You had one trip that you canceled (not SWA), six months or more into Covid. And then you assumed you could just reschedule for this year. I'd be mad at your destination for canceling... not SWA. Are they even open again this year? Most of the world has resumed life. Time to get back to normal.

Hmm... someone doesn't understand travel funds, and that canceling nonrefundable fares still gives you a year to use them. By his description, he'd have PLENTY of opportunity to use the travel funds. And yet, he hasn't figured that out? And what other airline would have a BETTER cancelation policy? None I know of. Sounds like another fish story to me.

I disagree. I'd prefer companies stay in business, instead of being subject to losses by people who change their mind over the latest CNN news hype. You wonder why they cancel so many flights? Probably because of people canceling. Flying empty planes gets expensive. Cause and effect and all that. It's been 18 months. Nothing has changed with respect to air travel risks. Oh wait, they've gotten better for all of us who are vaccinated. Nothing has gotten worse with Delta for the individual traveler. If you're still booking flights, and then complaining you can't get a refund to a nonrefundable ticket, that is TOTALLY on you. You knew the rules and the situation. You're trying to game the system for your own personal benefit. No sympathy here.

I think you're asking if you can have two different companions. You can have 3 changes... so you can have 3 (maybe 4) different companions. But only one at a time. You can book your (CP owner) ticket anytime after they are released. Then, anytime before your flight, you can add the companion. The currently listed companion will get the ticket. So you can't have reserved tickets for different companions. But it's only a problem if the flight books up completely. Then you should reserve the companion seat with points to keep it from filling, and then cancel right before you book it as companion.
