@dfwskier Totally agree. I personally think there should also be military discounts just for general travel not booked through the military. JMO.

@Barlowrltw I'm sorry that this happened to you. First and foremost, thank you for your service. It's been quite a while since I first heard ticket takers announce that service members have to be in uniform, I want to say at least 4 years. Yes, I personally think you should just be able to show your active ID, but that's just me. I hope the next flight gives better results.

Thanks for posting, I registered already as well. Since I normally fly at least twice in the months of September and October this was an easy do.
I doubt you have the answer, but I'm curious if I get this promotion and I already have qualified for a companion pass, I wonder if both can fly on the trip???
That would be nice.

@martinkoren 25 years, you have me by several years. Here is one thing I've done, "WHEN" I have put a complaint on her, I always get names and post them. Not that it solved the issue any better, or faster, but I feel it gets back to somebody who cares. I don't blame anyone as it seems to be what's going on and I've been bumped as well, not fun. I've sent my detailed issue in a letter (way before email) and an email after technology became the norm, and have been compensated each time, it just took time. Yes, you want it now, I understand that, and as paying customers we deserve some decent response time, but I've said this over and over again, we still haven't gotten out of what COVID got us in to. Excuse, no, but I've learned to be just a bit more patient since then. Maybe it was a good lesson for me who use to blow off at the very minute I got irritated.

I know there are many who get on this discussion board only to vent about a single situation of a bad experience. To be honest, I don't even recall how I stumbled on the discussion board, just something to do when stranded at home during COVID. Anyway, prior to being on this discussion board and since I've had GREAT and BAD experiences with SWA. Recently I was to leave Oakland at 7:45 to get home at 10:50. My flight was delayed over 4 hours and didn't get home until 2:30 am. Not quite happy about it, but I didn't complain. Things happen in business, and we still haven't had a full rebound from the COVID era with employees and pilots at full capacity. Anyway, I like the SWA perks, and "most" of the time customer service. I just wanted those people who read these boards who are connected with SWA, keep pushing forward with making us flyers feel happy. I once took a trip in my car to Oklahoma City and about 2 am had a flat on the freeway. I had to get a tow truck haul me to a tire store that wouldn't open until 8 am the next day, so I had to sleep in my car until then. So I had to sleep in my car, (on a cold rainy night) pay for a tow, purchase a new tire, and arrive to my destination about 8 hours past my initial time. So I guess my point is, it isn't just that things happen because SWA caused it, things can happen no matter what.

As of late I keep getting information that my companion has to check in separately to my being checked in, but she still has the next boarding pass as I do. I go ahead and have her, and myself check in anyway just so something crazy happens she doesn't check in and is a C boarder. I'm not sure why this announcement comes up

Many good answers, the top one is to gain ALIST and get an early seat, but if your still saving a seat, you're just doing it closer to the front of the plane. No flight attendants aren't going around and enforcing this, but I've heard many times an announcement that you can't save seats. Since I fly with my wife, (I'm A List, she isn't) I always have to board and hope to keep one of the other 2 seats from being filled. When one is filled, (because I don't deny someone from sitting down) the other one is still open. Normally most people actually ask, "is someone sitting there?" I reply, my wife is coming, but I can't stop you from sitting there. I've never had anyone decide to take that seat. If my wife gets on and there is still one seat left, I do as someone else on here mentioned, I move to the middle and give them the isle seat.

This isn't trying to be sarcastic, but each window does have a shade that slides up and down. Just FYI. If you're thinking that others might want a window open, there are also certain rows that don't have a window at all. I hope this helps.

Not trying to bully anyone, but I wouldn't consider any refund outside of the policy that I've established. SWA and many other companies worked and tried to do what they could during a crazy time of our lives, but they, or anyone, could guarantee everyone was going to be satisfied. Not just with airlines, but other issues and services as well I had to bite the bullet and move on. No, I wasn't happy, but I've not tried to make others feel bad as like with SWA, there were policies in place that I didn't take the time to fully go over and it's my fault. I hope this is just a minor blip in your life and you can move on and maybe I will see you on a future flight, if not, good, I have an empty middle seat.

Just know that the only thing for certain is, regardless of what's on the card, it's a CHASE card promotion, not SWA. Therefore any scam would be on CHASE, not SWA.

@brettp1984 I'm trying to read this to understand, Did the G.A. say, "Anybody that can walk," or is this suppose to be, "Anybody that CAN'T walk." Because if it's anybody that can walk, you should have got in line yourself.

@dfwskier I'm not sure if the kick tail coupons are any good either. Like you, I've got quite a few and did recently give out one to a ticket counter agent. She smiled and said, Thank you, we a big sincere smile, so maybe they are?

I've been an A-Lister for about 7 years and did also use to get the card. I know it is a to each their own, but I never carried the card with me, and was never asked for it. Much like was mentioned, attendant would look at the next in line and ask, "are you AList or business preferred? I don't think I've ever seen anyone say no, nor have I ever seen somebody moved out of the line for not being one. But honestly, I guess it comes down to who the ticket attendant is, some may enforce it, some may not. What I may mention, this is as recently as 2 weekends ago, in SWA home hub, there was no ALIST line anywhere, and I was even more amazed to see there was no TSA bypass there either.

@Manley13 You pretty much have gotten a wide range of replies, all on point. I will just confirm it's not a scam, it's just, as noted in these posts, not an instant process. I've gotten my points in less than a week, and I've waited up to 10 weeks before the points were posted. 20,000 for 800 bucks sounds about right. I normally do pay the extra 30 bucks for an additional 2K points and for around $200 am getting around 4,500 points. I'm hoping that you were staying at least a week to pay that much for a room. 🙂 I love this offer by Booking.com as I have already an estimated 40,000 points in hotel points alone towards my companion pass, which helps since they raised it to 125,000 this year.

I had no idea that this was even possible? So are you stating that someone could request a gate pass, which gets them through security (TSA) and are able to accompany them to the gate?

To answer your question, it's not ok. I've had gate changes and always seemed to get informed early. But from reading other posts and hearing stories like yours, my wife and I have gone to the, "expect it to happen mode." So as soon as we get to the gate, we check what the sign says at the ticket counter, does it show our city of destination. And although annoying, I still ask the clerk, "Is this the gate for FLT XXX to XXX? It just gives me peace of mind. And as always, if it's a connecting flight, we always go right to the board as soon as we get off to see if there is any change. I hope this helps with any future flights on SWA.

I agree with the previous comments, Kansas City (MCI) isn't tricky at all, and if you get let off right in front of the check-in area, it's just in the door and go. If you're not checking bags, get let off right at the door with TSA. I've done this airport all the time at an hour before take-off and still had to sit and wait.

I live in NM and have seen on at least 5 news outlets about the issues, SWA and others had over the weekend, and much of that was due to the weather, but other issues as well. I'm not fully aware that is wasn't any hoax that that airline brought up to cover anything up. Since you only posted this 12 hours ago, I'm only going to assume you don't have access to television. Honestly, I'm sorry that you had to experience this, (and the thousands of others) as it's not fun at all to be stranded at an airport (been there/St. Louis) and having plans changed. As for your other issues, I can't help on that end.
