On recent flights, I've seen the gate agents enforce the rules and do so with success!
Family Boarding - unless the child us under the age of seven, no go. And now, the rule is that for each child under the age of seven, ONE ADULT and only one adult boards with the child. No more aunt, uncle, brother, 20-something kids and grandparents all going on together.
Carry On Items - now you can have only one piece of luggage and one personal items. Anything separate counts and you either consolidate, throw away or check the items.
Item Count - no more sneaking on two pieces of luggage. One luggage item that meets the size requirements and one "personal item".
Thank you Southwest for following the rules that you wrote.

The credit belongs to the passenger, not the buyer of the ticket. To bypass those safeguards and create an account in someone else's name is a problem, as I see it.
If Southwest agrees with you , then so be it.

The ultimate consumer tool is the credit card dispute backed up by Federal law. If you make a convincing argument, in writing, then you will likely get a credit for all or a portion of your purchase.
By using the credit card dispute process, the merchant is on the defensive rather than you being on the defensive.

It is called "pushing the envelope" and goes on continuously with Southwest.
Multiple pieces of luggage carry onboard - pushing the envelope.
More than one personal item carry onboard - pushing the envelope.
Abusing the family boarding provision - pushing the envelope.
Crying about sitting together - pushing the envelope.
Abusing your boarding position - pushing the envelope.

From my read of the complaint, they are not interested in a remedy from Southwest as they have stewed about this for some time. It was Southwest who created the situation through their employee, so I understand why the OP may not wish to engage Southwest in the incident.
Maybe they will get a LUV voucher but maybe they are trying to raise an awareness of the bias that they experienced.

None of us are paid by Southwest, speaking for myself, at least.
You have been confronted by the FACTS that you chose an airline without assigned seats and then come and complain that you can't sit together.
This is no different than going to an Asian restaurant and demanding Mediterranean food.
This is no different than going to a steakhouse and then demanding a vegan menu.
This is no different than moving to northern Canada and expecting a tropical climate.
If you want assigned seats, there are airlines with assigned seats. And, as suggested before, buy the first class tickets and enjoy the experience.

Your story indicates a clear bias and should not be tolerated.
I would suggest consulting with legal counsel to see what can be done to assure that the next passenger will not endure that kind of activity.

I am suggesting that the passenger and companions be removed from the flight immediately for not following flight crew instructions.
Every time someone comes here and complains, we lose more and more of what Southwest is all about.
Start enforcing Federal laws and have people arrested.

No, I didn't miss the point. We've all read these stories before.
On a recent flight, the flight attendant said that they were going to hold the entire flight until someone agreed to change seats so that a family could sit together. I am challenging this behavior since it is well beyond the scope of what is permitted under the law.
The family was told to take the first available seat which they did not and consequently, failed to follow flight crew instructions. According to Federal law, they should have been detained and arrested.
When you were told to take the first available seat, failing to do so is failing to follow flight crew instructions. Had I been Captain of the flight, I would have had you removed and arrested for failing to follow flight crew instructions.
You inconvenienced and delayed the entire flight because you wanted to sit together. That's not acceptable.

I am going to go ahead and say what the "silent majority" are thinking.
First, you chose Southwest likely because it was the lowest cost airline. In doing so, Southwest has OPEN SEATING which you must have known because you didn't choose a seat like you might on another airline with a higher price.
So, you made AN INFORMED DECISION and identified the consequences therein. No one is going to hit the reformat button because you want your kids to sit together with you. The rest of us enjoy Southwest the way it is. It is not an issue of mismanagement, only that you made a choice and don't like the outcome.
There are plenty of airlines who offer assigned seating and I would suggest that you purchase a first class ticket on another airline and choose exactly where you want to sit, you and your kids too.
Bye bye...

Regardless of what others tell you, Southwest is responsible for your safety and wellbeing on board. While you may choose to report the activity, you are not required to do so.
You need to file a written report with both Southwest and law enforcement. Use your destination as the agency to report the behavior.
Since you are attributing the behavior to drinking, Southwest is serving the drinks so they are accountable.

The air travel experience will improve as the TSA rules are enforced and appropriate fees are incurred by passengers who wish to push the envelope.
The "silent majority" will celebrate this limitation to what gets carried on the plane, as you have seen as the origin of this post.

Since the wi-fi is part of the flight "package", let Southwest know that part of the "package" was not delivered. As such, request a partial refund on your flight.
If Southwest is going to promote free wi-fi as part of the flight, it needs to work, PERIOD.
When they are faced with refunds, they'll fix the system.

If you go back, you will notice that the "rule" is that of TSA's. They do not want multiple pieces of luggage being carried on a plane.
My proposal will improve the air travel experience by allowing TSA to better regulate the number of items coming through the TSA checkpoint.
While this regulation in its proposed state will improve the overall flow of passengers, there will be those with financial and time consequences by pushing the envelope.
It is my believe, based upon conversations and studying reports published by airlines, that my proposal will be welcomed by the airline industry with a red carpet.

Like I said, the current scanner is capable of determining mass. The carry on would be removed from the normal flow and the individual would be told to take the luggage back to the original check in area.
This would actually expedite traffic going through the TSA line as you had already placed the item through the scanner.
The incentive becomes checking your bags and stop trying to bring all that stuff on the plane.
Yes, I will be very popular. I have a few more sections to write before it gets turned in.

No, it is definitely something that I am drafting.
The scanner has the capacity to measure the mass. It can also detect whether the item is luggage or not. Either way, if it is oversized or over count, then you fail the security clearance and you back to start along with a non-refundable charge of $250.
Air travel will be much more pleasant without everyone carrying their entire garage on the plane and asking if they can get assistance with closing the overhead doors.

Please re-read the TSA regulations. Whether it fits under the seat, or not, is irrelevant. The fact that you have two pieces of luggage is the issue.
Soon the legislation will stop this right at the TSA checkpoint. No one will try and "sneak" anything through since doing so will cost you a $250 administrative fee plus going all the way back to check the bag, then go through the TSA line again.
By pushing the envelope, the rules are becoming tighter and more expensive.
