It appears you booked a new flight at the last minute and because of that received a C boarding position. That's certainly frustrating, but I'm not sure what anyone could have done for you at that point. The system assigns the best available boarding position so all the boarding positions ahead of you had already been assigned to someone so it would not have been possible to assign one to you. The only possibility would have been to request an early boarding position in the A1-A15 range but those too could have been sold out. Am I understanding the situation correctly? Additionally, if you want to file a complaint with Southwest you should use one of methods listed under Contact Us on southwest.com, this Community is a customer to customer forum and not setup to handle customer service issues. --TheMiddleSeat

Any updates to these tool schedules? Getaway and Route Map? I want to plan trips to Latin America or the Caribbean, but I have spent hours guessing, does SW fly to Grand Cayman Island, is it seasonal, do I have to fly across the country first to get a connection. I have that same question for all of your other destinations. This tool is such a necessity. Help us be the frequent flyers/customers you want us to be.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Unlike Newark, Southwest doesn't have service in other nearby airports in the Seattle area. Regarding Paine, I remember seeing something about the decision to focus on other locations, including SEA. It didn't make sense to have just a few flights at Paine when they can have a much more meaningful presence at SEA and other existing airports. --TheMiddleSeat

Yes, I was referring to five roundtrips. I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the financial side of the Companion Pass, but the flight I take every week and have done so for five years is always 100% booked, since it is kind of a feeder flight to DIA, so it seems the seat taken up by the companion could have been sold. But, as I said, I don't know how ths works out in the end. In any case, I feel the Companion Pass perk is wasted on me, and from a PR perspective, a choice would be nice. Also, it's not about getting more booze, per se. It's about sitting back, listening to music, and having a drink. It makes the weekly flight nicer.

@KiwisMom99 I quickly checked American, Delta, United, and Frontier and only Frontier allowed one small pepper spray container in a checked bag. Seems like Southwest's rules are pretty standard for the industry. --TheMiddleSeat

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at the travel inn. If I walked in to a hotel/motel that looked like that I would check out just as fast as I checked in and find another hotel/motel. My suggestion is to reach out to the management of that hotel or reach out to the company you booked your hotel through at the phone number which is usually somewhere at the bottom of the confirmation email they sent you when you booked if you don't see a phone number on the bottom of the email I recommend you visit the website you booked though and find the contact us link so they can hopefully help you. I hope your next hotel stay will be better than this one! Blake

I'm not sure where @SWDigits comment went, but he indicated there were lots of storms in the DC area yesterday. This cancelation does appear to be a result of that as the plane that was scheduled to fly ATL-AUS instead went ATL-DCA this morning. The "didn't sell enough tickets" reason makes sense in a traditional hub and spoke situation, but makes no sense with Southwest as the plane can't just not go without affecting the 5+ stops it is scheduled to make the rest of the day. When bad weather or mechanical issues screw things up there is a ripple affect and unfortunately you were impacted by one of those ripples. --TheMiddleSeat

Southwest believed that you couldn't actually fly the second flight given that they believed you would be in San Francisco still and canceled the second flight as is their stated policy. Others have reported calling and having success getting the cancelled flights reinstated, you too should have had success with that. Alternatively, it is still possible to purchase a flight for today from HNL to KOA for $39 so even if reinstatement didn't happen a replacement ticket could easily be purchased at a good price, using the refund given to you for the cancelation of the original flight. I fail to see how travel plans were "ruined". Perhaps Southwest caused a little unnecessary panic, but nothing that could not easily and quickly be resolved. --TheMiddleSeat

@hannahsharpe1 also add the serial number to the report if you have it available. There are several discussion forums where the person reported happy news soon after adding the information to the online report.

Yes! You do not have to keep the points in your account to qualify for the companion pass. You just have to earn the required points in the calendar year. I don't think I have paid for a Southwest ticket for years (thanks to credit card signup bonuses and credit card spending). I also frequently dip below the companion pass level, but again- you just have to earn the points, they do not have to stay in your account. I have spoken to many people who mistakenly believe those 110,000 points are accumulated to "buy" the companion pass.

All very good points and your generosity is incredible. Also remember that if you purchase a flight with points for someone else and they cancel the reservation, points are returned to your account. You can also get points refunded to your account if the price of a flight drops after the reservation is originally made. If you transferred points they would be refunded to the person who received the transfer. Southwest does occasionally offer programs where you can can donate your RR points to a specific charity through Southwest, I've seen it happen after hurricanes and such, but what you're doing allows you to pick the charity and help specific causes. --TheMiddleSeat

I don't have a definitive answer, but I suspect it would not count as you are not changing the name of the companion. This sounds like a great question to ask via the Chat function within the Southwest app as you would already be logged into the account and authenticated and they can quickly make the edit. Please reply when you do get an answer so we all know what Southwest said. --TheMiddleSeat

@jfharris86 wrote: Yea looks like im joining the bandwagon on this one. Woke up on the 7/22/19 and had an email telling me changes were made to my Southwest account. Roughly 120,000 points gone and used on the rapids rewards shopping page. I'm assuming for gift cards or something like that. I called not even 3 hours after the points were used and was told they couldn't cancel it. Whoever hacked my account went as far as changing my email address and security questions. I'm assuming he changed the email address so the e-gift cards would go to him. First I was told it would take 10 to 30 days to look into, just called back today and was told, sorry they are very busy, it could take 30 to 60 days and no update on if I'd get my points back. She basically said lets see what the team discovers and then we can talk about that. Very frustrating situation. On the plus I did learn that you can call and put a security word on the account to make it harder for people to hack your account, would have been nice to see this advertised while signing up for the account. I'm like 3 or 4 flights from A List Preferred and got the companion pass back in May. I love Southwest but 2 months to investigate fraud, no wonder no one gets caught. Unfortunately, Southwest's account security is somewhat lax by industry standards -- no two-factor authentication, no address/name checking on 3rd party purchase access, ease of changing personal info. So it represents an easy target for hackers. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is have a strong password. And (apparently, as it isn't published) add a security word to telephone access on your account, for what that's worth. The good news is that generally, once Southwest verifies that the points were used by an unauthorized person, they refund them to your account. This process can unfortunately take some time.

It certainly sucks that this happened and I'm sure you didn't really have time to think before the bag was being checked, but according to Southwest's contract of carriage they have no responsibility for damage to computers in checked baggage. It won't hurt ask for some compensation, but I don't believe they would be required to provide any. If you do ask I would suggest you provide a quote you've received for the cost of repair. Here's the info from the contract of carriage: High-Value Items Unsuitable for Checked Baggage. Carrier assumes no responsibility for and will not be liable for money; jewelry; photographic, video, and optical equipment; computers and other electronic equipment; computer software; silverware and china; fragile or perishable items; liquids; precious gems and metals; negotiable instruments; securities; business or personal documents; samples; items intended for sale; paintings, artifacts, and other works of art; antiques; collectors’ items; unique or irreplaceable items; heirlooms; research, experimental, and scholastic items and documents; manuscripts; furs; irreplaceable books or publications; and similar valuables contained in carryon or Checked Baggage. For the Passenger’s protection, these items should not be transported in or as Checked Baggage. --TheMiddleSeat

I don't recall ever seeing a WGA fare being more expersive than a Senior fare. Business Select, Anytime, and Senior fares tend to not change based on demand. BS are somewhere around $25 more expensive than Anytime fares. Senior fares are about a 20% discount from Anytime. WannaGetAways vary a lot based on demand- from well below Senior fares to levels near them. As I said though, I don't remember ever seeing a WGA be more expensive than Senior.

I would never buy a gift card with a mail delivery option when I can go to most food stores, Home Depots, etc to buy one in person. +1 Southwest gift cards can be purchased in so many stores. Best part is you can often buy them at a discount at Sam's Club or earn points for fuel discounts at grocery stores. Also, expecting any merchant to ship products the day you purchased them is still not realistic outside of Amazon and a few other sellers that specifically state products will ship same day. Overnight shipping does not mean it will arrive the very next day. --TheMiddleSeat

Technically the limitation is one carry-on bag such as a small rolling suitcase or garment bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or backpack. You can certainly try to carry on more, but if the flight is full or Southwest staff enforces the rule then you would be asked to gate check an item. As long as you are prepared to check one of the items then you can give it a try. --TheMiddleSeat

My experience: sandwhich in my carry-on along with a frozen ice pack, the reusable white bag which comes in a foam box containing drugs. After going through the TSA inspection (xray only), I thought the TSA slipped up. However, since it had not reverted to its unfrozen liquid (jell?) state (mostly), there had been no mistake which I believe I confirmed later on the TSA web site My belief is you will not have a problem. Since your box is only ten pounds, I'd suggest you carry it on for several reasons.

1. Two bags under 50lbs each and less than 62" (L+W+H) are included at no additional charge for each ticketed customer. You didn't say how many passengers are in your family, but a family of 5 would be allotted 10 free bags. I don't see a specific maximum number of excess bags allowed, I would suggest calling Southwest or asking their question via Twitter (@Southwestair) and asking if there is a maximum number of excess bags per passenger that would be allowed. If each of the five passengers is allowed 2 excess bags for a total of 4 bags then you're at a total of 20 bags allowed. You mentioned you are aware of the fees, but keep in mind that excess baggage fee is in addition to any overweight or oversize fees. 2. Surfboards are accepted for $75, "Surfboard/kiteboard, keels and fins must be removed and placed in carryon or checked baggage." It would surprise me though if they accepted one that was 9ft long. You gotta remember the doors for the plane can only accommodate things up to a certain size. Again, something good to ask via Twitter. I suspect another shipping option might be better here. 3. Too big. At 102" that is over the 80" limit as specified in the excess baggage policy. Here is the excess baggage policy: Excess Baggage Each piece of baggage in excess of the free baggage allowance specified above that is not in excess of 62 inches (L+W+H) and 50 lbs. or less will be accepted for a charge of $75.00 per item one-way. Excess baggage which is also overweight or oversized will be charged excess baggage plus the applicable oversize or overweight charge. Weight and Size Allowance Southwest will accept the first two checked bags for free provided that the bags do not exceed 50 lbs and 62 inches (L+W+H). Overweight items from 51 to 100 pounds and oversized items in excess of 62 inches but not more than 80 inches will be accepted for a charge of $75.00 per item one-way. Only one $75.00 charge applies if the piece is both oversized and overweight, regardless of the weight as long as it does not exceed 100 lbs. Excess baggage which is also overweight or oversized will be charged excess baggage plus the applicable oversize or overweight charge. These policies can be found at https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/baggage/checked-bags-pol.html and https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/baggage/special-luggage-pol.html Enjoy Hawaii!! --TheMiddleSeat

Adding to what themiddleseat said, remember that "more rewards" is NOT Southwest. It is a different company that makes it's money by giving you less value for your points than Southwest does. Financially, you are better off using your points on Southwest flights than on anything bought thru more rewards.
