Not sure if you already found an answer, but you can check bags all the way through to your final destination even if you have separate reservations for each leg of the journey. At the first departure airport check in at the full service counter and ask for your bags to be checked to the final destination. The agent may ask for information about your other reservations. As you are looking to make separate reservations you would need to check-in for each one 24 hours before departure, the same as you would for domestic travel. Nothing special about the connection, hopefully you have/had a great trip! --TheMiddleSeat

Hopefully you were able to complete the travel ok. Young Travelers are not monitored by Southwest and walk from the gate to baggage claim/passenger pickup alone so any family/friend can pick them up. Obtaining an escort pass to walk them to the gate for departure should be ok as the 22 year old is an adult escorting a minor. --TheMiddleSeat

Additionally, if a WGA fare says 1 seat left that is probably just at that fare and after that 1 is sold there will most likely still be WGA fares available at a slightly higher price. 1 left on Business Select fare is a different story and more likely to indicate flight is selling out. Even if it sells out there are often last minute cancellations that would allow you to add your companion to the flight within 24 hours of departure. Southwest's no fee change policy means people often make changes, freeing up seats close to departure. --TheMiddleSeat

Certainly we apologize if there was any miscommunication in the past. Allow me to clarify that Customer Relations is able to search by the Customer's confirmation number to locate paper vouchers issued in the airport and send a an email replacement in every case as long as it's still within the validity period.

Even though EWR is out, note that there are still non-stop options from to and from MCO on Saturdays at LGA. I know that is not MCO, but it could be an options. Fares are nice over the next month as well (as of right now). Also note that there are affordable direct options several times a day to and from MCO daily at ISP on Long Island. I get that ISP is a haul from Jersey, but it could be an option. Similar to LGA, fares over the next month are pretty reasonable (again, as of right now). I hope that helps!

I can't dial 800-083-1179 - the toll free number for Mexico. I should get information about travel funds for a ticket for my next travel this week. Sven Go to the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page, go to the phone number section and click on "more contact numbers" and see if any of those will work for you.

Additional note: while the points from credit card purchases belong to the primary card holder, he or she can use Rapid Rewards points from there account to book travel for others, if desired.

A bit of a side note, but others already mentioned they use TSA PreCheck so I’ll just throw in my two cents and suggest it as well. I know it seems super annoying that you have to pay for it, but if you are flying enough to make A-List you really, really should give in and pay the $85 for 5 years of PreCheck. Yes, it’s all a joke and paying extra to be treated like a human is ridiculous, BUT the theater that is TSA screening is sooooo much more tolerable with PreCheck. If you do any international travel paying the extra $15 ($100 total) for Global Entry is super wonderful, letting you breeze through Customs. Just one trip in the 5 years justifies the additional cost. I also opted to purchase Clear which is a bit of a stretch to justify, but I appreciate the individualized service their offer and they have been very helpful getting me PreCheck-lite service when PreCheck is closed. And yes, TSA does control which airline priority lines are open so saying something to Southwest may get them to say something to TSA, but focus your annoyance at TSA, not Southwest. --TheMiddleSeat

Thank you. I was hoping we could check them all the way thru; but got mixed messages when I made the reservations a month ago and called back to make the changes the other day.

This is the recommend option by many in similar situations.

The FAA did recently announce a ban on certain models of MacBooks that Apple recalled due to battery issues. You can read the more about the ban here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/airline-news/2019/08/14/faa-bans-macbook-pro-models-flights-apple-recall/2006200001/ As for actually flying with one, no one is going to do any actual screening or questioning to see you have a recalled model or one that is "safe". As was the case with the Samsung ban awhile back, it's up to you the traveler to do the right thing. No, TSA will not do anything differently so no need to alter your expectations there. --TheMiddleSeat

While no one here can actually do anything to help you, I would say that I find it surprising that Southwest didn't offer to arrange a hotel if the only reason you couldn't get to your destination was a mechanical issue. It's definitely worth reaching out to Southwest to see if they would be willing to offer additional compensation. Good luck! --TheMiddleSeat

Yes. In fact, you can cancel the whole trip and get the amount you paid as a travel fund and apply that towards an entirely new reservation. Only reason you would want to change instead of cancel a reservation is to keep EarlyBird Check-In on the reservation. If you cancel, EarlyBird goes away and you don't get a refund for that. If you don't purchase EBCI then you can change or cancel/rebook, it all ends up the same. You may already know, but just to be clear, the travel funds you get are good for one year from the date you initially purchased the reservation and must be used by the same traveler(s) as was on the original reservation. --TheMiddleSeat Did this or any other comment in the thread answer your question? Every other time I've heard of people of converting an expired travel fund to a LUV voucher it has been done after the travel funds have expired. I also have not heard of Southwest moving up the expiration date, but it's certainly worth a phone call if you are worried about flights not being available at the last minute. Let us know how it goes. --TheMiddleSeat

@easysf wrote: I'm looking to open a rapid rewards card since I travel so much and prefer to fly southwest. However, this would only be the second credit card I'm opening and I have A LOT of questions about the process. Do I have to have a Chase bank account in order to pay off/open the card? no How do I knnow which level is best? Assuming that you are talking about a personal card as opposed to a business card, there's not much difference. Both give 40k bonus points. The priority card is $80/year more expensive, but you get more "stuff" - $75 travel credit, 4 priority boardings, 4500 more anniversary points. So from a pure financial standpoint, IMO, the priority card is the better deal. How long does it take to get the card? If done via phone, it's instantaneous. Is the process of paying the card off arduous? Not more than any other card you have. And finally, those of you who have it, do you find it worth the yearly fee? The first year, you get over $600 value (40k points) in points. After that you have a fee to continue to earn points. If you spend enough, you earns points that are worth about 1.5+ cents a point. Only you can decide whether or not that is worthwhile

Southwest was planning to begin flying to SXM in 2018. Hurricane Irma delayed and then terminated that decision. I spoke with a Southwest executive shortly after Hurricane Irma and he indicated that deals like the Southwest/SXM deal were many years in the making and couldn’t be easily cancelled. However, the long delay in fully reopening Princess Julianna airport (SXM) and the long delay in opening the island hotels forced Southwest to reconsider as SXM couldn’t keep up with their end of the arrangement. PJI airport is still not fully reopened. St Maarten is just now requesting bids for the contract to fully renovate the terminal and get it back to pre-storm shape. Hence it will be at least another year before the terminal is back to pre-Irma shape. I would imagine Southwest won’t reconsider until 2021 or even 2022. That’s pure speculation on my part. Now is a good opportunity for airlines to obtain market share as the currently servicing airlines aren’t providing expansive, consistent coverage to SXM. Personally I’m hoping Southwest renegotiated with SXM and begins flying there as soon as possible!
