Learned the hard way that this isn’t true. We are traveling with a $6500 viola in a case and were forced to check it at the gate. We begged to gate check it, my daughter in tears, and were refused. There are 4 other musicians on the flight that suffered the same fate. The agent claimed flight was full and we had to check. We understand but why refuse to gate check? It felt personal and mean spirited. This hasn’t happened in my 30 years flying with Southwest. Shame. Dealing with this exact situation right now.  I have contacted Chase about it.  They are saying it is on Southwest and Southwest says it is Chase.  It’s a classic bait and switch.  Cancelled our Chase card completely.  Reported to Federal Trade Commission.  Heard on the news this morning that the Department of Transportation is investigating 4 airlines for the administration of their flyer miles and southwest is one of those airlines being looked into.   ... I have called Chase a couple times and been in phone over an hour;  I finally got a supervisor who supposedly created a ticket on the issue, this was about a week ago.  So far I have heard nothing back.  When they renew is also confusing, I was just charge my annual fee but they don't renew until march.  If you call them, they can tell you how many are left. Perhaps a layover in other areas such as San Juan, Puerto Rico or other countries such as Aruba or Costa Rica (San Jose) would work. It may not be necessary to be THE final destination for the travelers. I suppose this assumes it is alright to fly over any other countries necessary such as Colombia, Venezuela, etc. to get to destinations such as Santiago, Buenos Aires, or Rio de Janeiro. ... A huge percentage of Alaskans live in the Anchorage area, so the small amount of traffic coming from small towns can be left to Alaska.  Alaska's main hub is Seattle anyway.  Lots of cruises also end near Anchorage.   Anchorage to Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and Baltimore would make great redeye candidates.   Several years ago I took a redeye from Anchorage to Minneapolis and it worked out great.  The downside to serving Anchorage is the extreme seasonality,  but Southwest still serves Fort Myers despite it's extreme seasonality. As noted, you can have a personal card and a business card. In fact, you can have both business cards in addition to one personal card. You may also want to consider closing your personal card and getting a new one as you can get a sign up bonus every 24 months. I believe they don't allow you to add a companion now because you would be able to book a companion on a flight anytime, not just during the promotion period. I don't think their systems are sophisticated enough to only let you add during that short window.  If you are worried about the flight filling up, use points to book a flight now for your companion then cancel that flight once you add them as a companion to your reservation.  (Or if flight is full, cancel first then add)  If you don't have points, you can book a fully refundable ticket now for the companion and refund it once you are able to add the companion to your reservation.  This of course does require you to float the cost until you are able to add the companion.  ... This rewards benefit is a scam. If you purchase it at the same time as your flight or vacation package, they won’t reimburse you. It has to be done as a separate purchase but this is never mentioned anywhere including the terms and conditions of the benefit. Then they’ll give you the runaround when you complain about it.  ... "only sell earlybird for the A boarding position. There is no way to do that because there is no way to know how many A-Listers will grab A spots until 36 hours before the flight. Here we are in 2024 and still having this issue. I use yahoo and get emails like the confirmation for creating this account. But won't get any confirmation emails. The SW help person I spoke with before said it was an issue with Yahoo and had me switch to gmail. But then when they merged two different rapid rewards accounts, it moved it back to Yahoo and now I'm back to not getting emails. Last time I flew with a companion (roundtrip ticket) Wanna GetawayPlus, we changed our return flights day of. I cancelled my companion pass then rebooked mine, but had to call customer service to rebook companion. They said it was because we already completed the first leg of our trip. I completely get what you are saying bbland.  I feel the same way.  I have several pieces of luggage for differing situations.  Seems most of the replies don't get it. One specific situation is a carryon for Southwest, i.e. 24x16x10.  I actually have an older travelpro but it is not a spinner, just a two-wheeler.  Harder to pull and definitely won't roll down the aircraft aisle, like a spinner that you can turn sideways.  Its green, which unfortunately sometimes deceives the boarding agent and I have to prove it meets their rules by putting it in the sizer and they are astonished that it is perfectly sized, wheels and all.  The wheels are somewhat recessed.  It would be too big for other airlines and international.  I bought it in an online clearance sale 5 years ago and not seen one since. After 4 flights in 2 days which each had over 25  pre-boarders- I'm over it. And breaking news states that SW has increased the maximum charge for earlybird check-in and upgraded boarding ( up to $149!).  That will surely increase the number of pre-boarders.   Also- SW policy regarding saving of seats ( they don't officially have one)  has also been put out there on social media and now abused.
