Hello. You don't "earn" the qualifying points until they post to your account. Why? Becasue if they are based on your purchases and you could return purchases and get a credit, and in the process reduce the number of points you earn. Therefore you'll need to wait for the 20th. edit add: congrats on your soon to be earned companion pass!

Hi Mary. There's been lots of speculation about Hawaii. We know it is going to happen. We just don't know exactly when. That is due to the fact that the government needs to certify both the planes and the airline for long over water flights, and the government moves at it's own speed.. Anyway, here's the most recent speculation from Hawaii: https://beatofhawaii.com/southwest-hawaii-airline-update/

You should be able to use the award HQ/more rewards (credit card holder or not some restrictions for non card holders) but it is a better deal to use the points to buy the flight since you can use your points to buy tickets for anyone so if your wanting to book a ticket for say your friend for a wedding present you could make a certificate for X number of points then they could just call you and you could buy the ticket for them. If you would still rather just do the gift card using points i would try clicking through the southwest site and go to the more rewards and it should work once you log in to your southwest account on that site. It may lg you out when you go from the Southwest website to the more rewards account which might be why it says not enough points since a non member would not have enough points. If you still have issues I would reach out to the phone number on the more rewards site hope this helps Blake

@dfwskier wrote: Hello. Are you saying you had a trip scheduled to/from an airport that was covered by a hurricane advisory, and had that trip cancelled? If so, that presents an interesting question for Southwest customer relations. You can reach them via the methods listed on th top left of Southwest's contact us webpage. https://www.southwest.com/contact-us/contact-us.html?clk=GFOOTER-CUSTOMER-CONTACT-US If not, Southwest has a policy on expiring travel funds. I am unaware of any variance from that policy. They expire after one year. After expiration, you have the ability to pay $100 to have the balance (minus the $100) reinstated in a form that you or anyone else can use. I believe that form of balance expires 6 months after that. Hope your medical situation has improved. I'll add that the doctor's note is probably the key information if an exception can be made. The hurricane would be immaterial unless you already had plans to travel during that time. If this was the case where you had something planned prior to the hurricane and had to postpone it, then that would also be good information to mention.

Reminded me of all the flights to all the places we traveled on my miles and companion pass with Southwest Airlines. Many miles and 21 years together so far. Thanks, Southwest! One and a half for ours...we were enjoying the lap child arrangements but she was getting so big I got a RR account for her early just in case. I think she's mostly been on points so far though, maybe one paid flight.

Hello. You are allowed o carry on an item that fits in the overhead bin and should be no more than 24x16x10. You are also allowed one smaller carry on small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Both are free of charge. You are also allow rwo free checked bags subject to the following rules: "Southwest will accept the first two checked bags for free provided that the bags do not exceed 50 lbs and 62 inches (L+W+H). Overweight items from 51 to 100 pounds and oversized items in excess of 62 inches but not more than 80 inches will be accepted for a charge of $75.00 per item one-way. Only one $75.00 charge applies if the piece is both oversized and overweight, regardless of the weight as long as it does not exceed 100 lbs. Excess baggage which is also overweight or oversized will be charged excess baggage plus the applicable oversize or overweight charge. https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/baggage/checked-bags-pol.html

Davis is right. You are not the first person who has had your problem. That being said, the Southwest rep had no way to help you with out having the pertinent credit card information. Also, no airline "holds" a reservation that does not include payment information - and companies like United charge you for the privilege of holding your reservation. So Gail had no way to either cut you a ticket of hold your reservation. Gail was also correct when she said that you should contact Chase. Chase made you an offer. Chase was supposed to follow up on it's offer, and did not do so. Sorry.

When Southwest plans tos fly to Hawaii is an unknown due to the FAA requiing the planes to be certfied for long over water flights and the airline to the certified to offer long over water flights. The government moves at it's own speed. When will it approve these things?Good question. Southwet has stated that it hopes to start selling tickets sometime this year and start flying to Hawaii some time next year. When? See paragraph 1. In the meantime, if you see killer fares on another airline, you shold consider snagging them.

I have an apostrophe in my last name, and on my Global Entry/Pre-Check card, but Southwest doesn't allow for those characters in you name. Will I never get TSA Pre-Check because of this? The consensus I've seen on other non-Southwest forums is omitting the apostrophe in the reservation shouldn't cause a problem. If your name is O'Neil, booking the ticket as ONeil should work. If that's what you are doing then there's a chance the problem is something else such as a middle name or middle initial. How are you entering your name without the apostrophe now? --TheMiddleSeat

Hello. Any traveler should be able to use his own travel funds any way he wants. The proviso is that all travel MUST be completed within one year of the date of the purchase of the ticket that turned into travel funds. So a roundtrip with a date on either side of the expiration date would not work. Also, there's not a way to combine point and travel funds to buy a ticket. You could use travel funds to buy a one way out, and points to buy a one way back. Also you can't use your travel funds to buy a ticket for someone else. They are only for your use.

The economics of in-flight wifi are complicated. Southwest doesn't actually generate profit from it's wifi fees. Satellite bandwidth is very, very expensive. Those $8 fees basically help offset what Southwest pays their internet service providers (along with partnership agreements, where companies pay money to advertise on the in-flight system). It costs Southwest money to provide the internet connectivity (and in-flight entertainment), but they see it as a service they need to offer in order to be competitive. Because it's a cost center and not a profit one, upgrades are slow to roll out, and quality of service is fairly abysmal when compared to what other carriers offer. Row44/Global Eagle would love for Southwest to upgrade to their latest and greatest technology, but that costs money. Most other carriers do make money off their wifi. Services like Gogo provide the connectivity, charge hefty fees for access and/or membership, and then cut some of that profit back to the carriers -- even at a risk to their profitability. Because they are the provider, it's in their best interests to offer good connection and upgrade frequently. So the connection is more reliable. JetBlue writes their internet provider a big check so that they can offer free wifi as a differentiator. It's a marketing cost. When/if Delta actually offers free wifi, it will be because they believe trading the income they receive now for a new cost is worth it from a marketing standpoint. As a business-focused carrier, wifi is important, and free wifi is a huge benefit. Another factor (for all carriers) is the costs in initially installing the systems into each plane. Sometimes the carrier pays for this fully (often amortized over time), sometimes it's partially paid for by the provider, sometimes it's a rental agreement. One possibility I've read with Delta is that they may have reached the point where the installation costs have now been fully paid off, which changes the economics and allows them to shift what were those costs over to cover the service they now offer their passengers for free, with no overall change to the bottom line. As I said, it's complicated. 😉

I am well aware that this is a peer to peer forum... we want people, everyone in fact, to know what our experience was and that southwest gave us the complete run around and has not rectified the situation in the least. It it is absolutely disturbing, disgusting and a major health risk what happened to us, and the public deserves to know. I'm disappointed to hear that customer service was unresposive to you. I'd suggest putting yor complaint in writing. Doing so will require a more thoughtful (and hopefully responsive) reply from the airline. In general, I've had better luck with written complints than with phone in complaints.. Details on how you could e-mail the airline are on the top left of the contact us webpage https://www.southwest.com/contact-us/contact-us.html?clk=GFOOTER-CUSTOMER-CONTACT-US Another option would be to write the CEO, Gary Kelly, a letter. He probably won't see it, but his admin assistant will. At the very least, the complaint will end up at the top of the customer service organization. At that level, your complaint will not simply be blown off. Hope that helps.

@sevenfaces wrote: Thank you for your help. I will check out those websites and see what i can come up with! This is amazing and so helpful i appreciate it! Any other replys or information you have for me would be great! Have a good day otherwise! If you were going to change airlines to Southwest once you get stateside, do it at the same airport if you can so that you only have to re-check your luggage, which could be also the same time when you go through customs. The obstacle will be to find the airport that has both Southwest and your Germany flights - maybe Newark, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore as opportunities? Without digging too much futher I'd say look hard at Newark. Here's the route map for Oakland with all of the available direct connections (all airlines): https://www.oaklandairport.com/airlines/route-map/ Edit: I don't see any direct flights to Germany, but surely there will be some potential connecting flights. The tip would be that a couple of popular international airports don't connect with Southwest - for Chicago the international traffic is through O'Hare while Southwest uses Midway. In NYC the international traffic goes through JFK and Newark while Southwest uses Laguardia and Newark - so don't book from Germany to O'Hare or JFK in order to transfer to Southwest flights - they aren't at the same airport.
