@blackbeard6 I've flown approximately 200 times on Southwest since I switched to them about 3 years ago. I've never really seen seat saving as a problem. Once or twice, I've seen something that is a bit egregious, but it doesn't seem to me to be anything too major.

I've flown 61 flights so far this year. I've had one flight canceled and no flights delayed more than an hour. I'm not doubting anyone else's experience, but I do wonder if we are all flying on the same Southwest.

Norman / Oklahoma City. I take a shuttle every Monday morning at a 5am. $47 including a tip. Uber/Lyft is too unreliable, even if you schedule in advance. I get the same driver pretty much every week. He is older and Pakistani. He used to live in Saudi Arabia, and I work for a (the) Saudi company. He and I usually discuss the Middle East. I get Lyft home at the end of the week for about $23.

@Josieshs As has been said, he will need to be able to use one seat belt extender. However, I'm confident that 500 will fit in two seats, and I'm pretty sure that one seatbelt extender will work. I'm guessing that you would use the left side of the seatbelt from one seat and the right side from the other. It should be okay.

@twright That's not sound statistically. I can die in a car accident whether or not I wear a seatbelt. I still wear a seatbelt because the probability that I die is greatly reduced. You can get and spread COVID whether or not you are vaccinated, but the probability is considerably lower if you are vaccinated. risk = loss * pr(loss) Reducing pr(loss), even if you do not reduce it to zero, reduces risk. It is basic math.

@jksobonya 700,000 people have died of COVID in less than 2 years. Seeing the flags on the Mall reminded me of the AIDS quilt (I saw that on the Mall many years ago) so I looked it up. Approximately the same number of people have died of COVID in the US in less than 2 years as have died from HIV/AIDS in the past 40 years. Oh, an somewhere between 12k and 60k people die of the flu every year. Follow the alligator 350k > 60k. That's 5x worse than the worst flu and 10x worse than what one might think of as a typical flu year. Oh, and I'm not an epidemiologist, but my job title is "Computational Geostatistician".

I flew United last week. One good thing that I will say about them is that they take the mask mandate MUCH more seriously. Flight attendants were going up and down the aisle telling people to pull up their mask. It was continual throughout the flight, every few minutes. This is the one area where I wish that Southwest was much more like United.

Other than a small amount to get enough for a trip, why would anyone convert UR points to RR? Pay Yourself Back is work 1.5 cents per point (at least with a Sapphire Reserve card). World of Hyatt points are worth 1.9 cents or more.

@jksobonya Why? I'm far from anti-military, but I'm also tired of the sense of entitlement surrounding the military. We have an all voluntary military, most of whom do it for the same reasons that we all take the jobs that we have. My last straw was the following incident: https://www.wistv.com/story/14865981/army-unit-returning-from-afghanistan-pays-2800-for-extra-bags/ They were supposed to pay for the bags and be reimbursed, but they acted like children (not the professional military that I expect), and everyone supported them. Thank you for your service. The same goes to police and physicians and teachers and everyone else who works to feed their families.

@gsking Same. I've got 23 of them saved. I'm not exactly a big drinker. I'm flying first on American connecting to business on Qatar in 2 1/2 weeks. I'll have some champagne then or something. I always get a drink when I'm in Iranian airspace.

What does it take to get Kick Tail Awards to give out? I've been A-List Preferred for over 3 years now, and I've only get sent one batch. As part of my effort to be a better person, I'm trying to be more generous. Tipping Southwest employees doesn't seem appropriate so I'd like some of these to give to people who deserve it from time to time.

I too agree that it would be nice (and arguably fairer) if the expiration date was based upon the flight date. After all, the use by date is based upon when you fly. However, that's not the rule, and you agree to the rules when you buy the ticket.

@chrisnyc1 While I may agree with you about the issues, what do you expect Southwest to do? Move its headquarters? I hate this constantly wanting to sanction companies for what states do or even impose travel bans on states. I notice that these travel bans always make exceptions for football teams. I presume that you are in NY. I'm opposed to policies that take people who are COVID positive and return them to nursing homes because it is cheaper. I think recklessly killing older people is bad. Therefore, I'm going to boycott NY or any company that is headquartered in NY.

How is that going to work? In 3.5 years of flying Southwest (and over 300 flights), I've saved seats once. I was flying with my wife and then 6 year old daughter, and I saved a seat for them. What would you have done? Tell me that you can seat in any open seat? Sorry, but this seat is taken. Sit down anyway? I'm not getting up to let you in. Push past me? I'm pressing charges for assault. It just doesn't work like that.

@chgoflyer I'm guessing that Southwest automatically rebooked them on another flight. They didn't stick around to talk to an agent. I'm guessing that Southwest rebooked them and then marked them as no shows.

@clearskies I'm a selfish &$^%. If you don't get vaccinated, and you die, so be it. I had a first cousin die last week. You should have been vaccinated. Yes, both vaccinated and unvaccinated people get COVID, but unvaccinated people get it at a higher rate. Unvaccinated people have a much higher viral load, making them more likely to spread it to both the unvaccinated and the vaccinated. Possible scenario: An unvaccinated person gets COVID. They fly. The sit near me at HOU, eating food from Subway, and they give me COVID. I'm have mild symptoms at most, but I take it home to my nine year old daughter who is currently too young to get vaccinated. She gets sick. I mind my own business. People actively risking the life of my child makes it my business.

I don't think that this is great news at all. I've easily flown enough to keep A-List Preferred. Having other people get given status to compete with me for what are admittedly relatively few perks isn't good news. Perhaps they could be given A-List light and not ever get a higher boarding number then me? Then I'd consider that neutral news instead of bad. Seriously though, good news would be an A-List check-in at OKC. The lines there can get very, very long early in the morning.

Southwest is not doing a good job of handling this entirely self-inflicted situation. My flight on Monday was significantly delayed. They knew that this would be happening by the middle of the previous day. They notified me at 2:30am for a 6:50am flight. If they had notified me the day before, I could have possibly rescheduled. There were other possibilities. This was poor handling. Southwest should do better at being proactive in handling problems caused by poor management. However, I did get an email from them later in the week giving me $100 of LUV. I'd rather they had get me to work on time. I'd rather they would have let me know about my delayed flight earlier. I suspect it was easier for Southwest to make me late to work than to deal with me trying to reschedule. For that, Southwest, you suck. But, as bad as Southwest is sometimes, they are generally better than any of the other choices, and no one else would have proactively sent me a voucher. Now, if SWA stock would just improve. I've lost a chunk of change on SWA and BA stock in the last few months.
