@TheMiddleSeat I love the reciprocity in that one if it is as described. If he canceled his trip, the EBCI fee is lost. If SWA screwed up, all they do is refund the fee? I'm not sure what to expect since, as you pointed out and as we know, boarding positions have been assigned. But, geez, that's not fair.

I am hoping to find enough interest in this cause that Southwest will update the handicapped policies to assist all handicapped passengers to get a front seat when they are known to be on a Southwest delayed connecting flight. I am certainly not looking for an apology or compensation... merely a correction to the inconsiderate handicapped seating policy.

I hear what you're saying, but... what would you suggest they do? They told you up front they may fill the middle seats. They told you as soon as they exceeded 66% seats full. They can't predict the future. What other logical option is there? You don't have enough time to rebook? Well, look on the bright side... the late notification means maybe 20-30% of the seats are still empty. Sit behind the wing and you might just get an empty middle seat... like we all hoped even before Covid. The straight talk is...you need to stop treating this an an emotional issue and try thinking about it rationally. They told you the rules and are following them. There is no evidence that filing middle seats is adding any measurable risk. If flying were dangerous, wouldn't all the flight attendants be sick? And conversely, if you're that concerned about it, your only safe bet is not to fly. Moving the needle an immeasurable amount by leaving the middle seat open doesn't do anything other than appease emotions. Sit at the window and blast the air vent down on your face. Having someone sitting next to you won't matter.

The policy is that you can remove your mask briefly to eat. That is said repeatedly at boarding and on board. Last week, I heard an announcement that the new policy was that you must replace your mask between bites. I'd sure like to see that be true.

No need for a larger person to buy an extra seat. Southwest will provide and extra seat for free under the "customer of size" policy. It is quite easy.

Besides federal law now says masks are mandatory for those age 2 and higher. That applies to all airlines. So if you plan to fly airline “x” instead of southwest, you are about to be disappointed. if you want to wear a shield too, that is ok.

I apologize for any inconvenience our policy change has caused. Any animal that formally traveled as an ESA and does not meet the requirements as a trained service dog, may be eligible to travel as a pet under our current pet policy instead. As a peer-to-peer forum, we are not equipped to assist you here, but I'd encourage you to Contact Customer Relations for assistance, especially if you've encountered any inconsistencies on a specific flight. Thank you!

@gsking we must be flying very different routes, I've been on 4 flights since the middle seat policy was lifted, each one was full, and seen stand by names prior to boarding on each flight as well. I'm sure that isn't the case for many flights, but I'm just saying, full flights for me has been the norm.

Not sure if you've ever run a business before, but when profit margins are as razor thin as they are when one is running an airline, the customer gets the final say. Ever heard the old expression, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"? Well, in this particular case, the customer is the one providing the money. No need for the wheedling; you know very well that Southwest would have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy had it not been for federal TAXPAYER bailouts. No Southwest would not have filed for bankruptcy had it not been foe the federal TAXPAYER bailouts. All that money was spent to keep people on the payroll. Absent the TAXPAYER baiiouts the airline would have done what every other business would have done - it would have fired thousands of employees and remained in business. Masks are require - period. If you or some member of your party can't / won't wear one, then don't try to get on the plane.

Is this possible to still earn enough points? Through buying flowers for example? Or something? I myself am only 5,000 points from a CP pass. But someone linked this helpful info in another thread so it looks like the only way would be if I took a flight? As my statement close date was Dec 10 and I am still off by about 5,000. https://www.southwest.com/html/rapidrewards/eoy-tier-communication.html Is the info in the above link on processing times etc not true then?

Who knows what the virus situation will be by 5/31/21. It may have improved enough for you to take a flight. If not, you do have some recourse. SW has an unofficial policy that lets travelers with expired travel funds turn those funds into vouchers. This can only be done after a travel fund expires. It must be done within 6 months of the expiration date. The resultant voucher can be used by anyone but expires in 6 months. Cost (subject to change) is $100. Hope that helps.

All types of things can impact and delay flights including weather and mechanical issues. If it is important, I would fly in the day before. Agree with you completely. I learned from an early life experience. I was to run a meeting in Kansas City that was to start at 10 am. I was on a flight due to arrive at 8 am. Plenty of time, right? No. We tried to land 3 times (fog - visibility right at minimums), and failed three times. Off to Salina KS we went. I finally got to MY MEETING at 1:30. I was the only one that was late. Never again.

@bwallet wrote: Food is cheaper at George Bush than Hobby. Other than that, I like Hobby. Hopefully, this will not mean fewer flights to/from Hobby. From the Midway point of view I don't expect any long-term reduction, the place is already about maxed out and will continue to be an airport with a dominant amount of connections being made. O'Hare will have only a share of a handful of gates, so I think we're only looking at a few destinations for people that aren't connecting in Chicago. I'm sure there is some big data showing people want to come to conventions or business on the north/northwest side and where those people will fly to. It seems like looking for an opportunity to establish some foothold in a place that otherwise wouldn't have been available, and it's a way to carry some more staff to avoid a layoff.

If you purchased the wanna get away fare you would need to pay the fare difference to upgrade to the anytime fare in this case the fare difference between your wanna get away ticket and the anytime fare was $399. It's no different than if you are on say delta and they have a first class seat on an earlier flight they don't just give it away you would have to upgrade to the first class cabin. -Blake

The lady who called told me that accepting the change didn't impact my ability to still make a no cost change based upon the schedule. I have gotten like 5 emails in the past two days about schedule, and this is the only one where they called. The difference was that this went from a one-stop flight to a nonstop which made me happy, of course. No offer of a refund, but I don't want one anyhow. This flight leaves slightly later than the original and arrives much earlier.

Yesterday, I was A-20, and more than five people lined up...but only five boarded. Honestly though, I've never seen them tell someone that they were out of sequence when they went to board so I'm not sure that they have ever checked this. Lining up by number would require interaction. People are not, um, astute enough to simply pay attention if the were to were to add some sort of numbering to the dots...unless the numbers changed, people would have to do math.

Given the nightmare that Apple Leisure Group clearly is, why does Southwest continue to let them use their name and continue to promote them? I know that the answer is money, but is it worth the ill will? Let alone the ethics of being partners with a company like this.

What has changed in the past 20 years that has made for so much bloat? I'm A-List and fly about 30 times a year. I can only remember a very few times over the last 5 years where I ended up with a boarding position outside of the A group -- and when that happened I was allowed to board at the equivalent of A-61. There may be bloat, but It hasn't affected my ability to get a decent boarding position.
