i don't expect to get treated any different than other Rewards members or passengers. I thought that SW might move the credit over to the purchaser. Since the policy is already written to address this circumstance, I have to consider how I book future tickets for minors. Just so happens that I didn't know of the policy before hand.

I understand that there is a pandemic, and I've been very pro-mask. However, I do not understand how these travel restrictions are Constitutional. The power to regulate interstate commerce is specifically reserved to the Federal government.

I'm sure what is missing is the parents telling Southwest that they are going to try, but that at some point, the child will have a meltdown, and that the mask will have to come off. The decision was then made that the risk of having to have an inflight incident was too great.

Can I just say this for those doing all the wait on the phone. It's been posted over and over that a quicker solution may be through a tweet, email, or whatever, not the phone. As soon as flight changes happen, it's not just happening to you, but hundreds, if not thousands who are trying to get on the phone at the same time, myself included. I have one perk, as an A list I get to press 1, and only wait 25-30 minutes, (which yes, is still frustrating.) I hope you got your issue resolved and have an outstanding trip. Since I've got at least 6 future trips in my upcoming flight activity, I get an email about every 3 days of this change or that. Some are only 5 mins and some hours. I've just come to expect it until we are all through this.

The easy solution is to get pre-boarding for both of them. Note that if your grandson is 2 or older, he is going to have to wear a mask for the whole flight, and they will enforce it.

To be fair, a mask optional flight is completely plausible though not with Southwest. I'm sure if you contact Netjets, they could arrange it. If you are flying internationally, Presidential Flight is the airline for you. I used to see their airport all the time when I went to Abu Dhabi. They would even offer mask free flights on a 787. I was just looking. Presidential Flight used to operate Avro RJ100. Northwest used to operate those. Those were wonderful aircraft.

Sadly FA's having to remind folks to put their mask back on is a direct result of people abusing the concept of eating, specifically taking 20 minutes to consume the snack provided. In the last several months I've observed this multiple times. It makes the FA's job that much harder and is pointless and selfish on the part of the mask renegade. Just wear the mask

Points(dot) com is a 3rd party company, contracted by Southwest to manage point sales. They are in business to make money. I would suspect that many Rapid Rewards members are now sitting on a larger than normal cache of points, as earnings likely continued over the past year+, but redemptions drastically declined. Resulting in a lot less point purchases being made. That's why we're seeing multiple point sales offers now, including the subscription service. Southwest routinely devalues RR points every 2-3 years. This latest devaluation was actually overdue, likely held back until the pandemic showed signs of ending.

In case you missed it, there are vaccines that protect against that virus. And there is about a one in a million chance of contracting covid in an airplane. Why shouldn't a fully vaccinated heart failure patient be allowed the mask exemption in any case? The policy is a bit bizarre, if there are 120 people on a 160 passenger plane, not wearing a mask is fine for one passenger. If there are 121 people on the plane, the mask exemption is a deadly menace to all onboard.

@italipower wrote: Has anyone started a class action lawsuit for the loss of point value on coerced travel fund transfer to points? The points were greatly diminished in value recently and i have lost a good deal in travel equity due to this. Would someone on this board consider starting a suit? Not sure about coerced exactly, I had the option but was planning on flying to I kept my travel funds. I've only got $79 left of those by now. So although I don't think the idea would work, I'm not in your class anyway if it did go forward. Why would you want someone else to do it? Besides the lawyers who make out like bandits the members of the class will end up getting $10 each or a couple of drink coupons (drinks being served again when this is settled five years from now) but the initiator is the only member of the class that gets a penalty settlement. But personally I think it would be a waste of time.

And, if it is international, make sure that letter from the parents (both of them) is notarized. Two years ago, Qatar wouldn't let me on a flight to South Africa with MY daughter because the letter from my wife was signed, but it wasn't notarized. That proved to be really problematic.

My daughter won’t even let me get one ear strap on before ripping it off lol We definitely had one advantage, he was starting to have the mask when he was one and a half but only in short times and with supervision, so by the time he was two it was hanging on a hook by the door and he knows grabbing the mask means going outside so we can't keep him away from it. Consistency I think was key, he always had to wear it to leave our apartment, so he got used to it fairly quickly.

@jwdarula You're in the military. We all have jobs and obligations. I support our military, but it is an all volunteer military. I expect our military to be professional. Unfortunately, what I seem to see all the time is a sense of entitlement. People want exceptions and special treatment for being service members. That's not what I expect from military members, but it seems to what we get. Sorry if that's not popular. I'm not anti-military. I worked for the military for years doing research before I decided the oil industry was much more lucrative. I just don't think being a service member in and of itself makes someone a special class of citizen.

It take about 3 seconds reading that to realize that there will be no exemptions. For instance, the flight must be less than 50% full at the time of departure. My flights in the past month or so have been 90% or more full.

@AndSoItGoes Your info is fine for historical purposes, but does no good predicting current or future flights. Southwest is not like the legacy carriers that only use certain aircraft on certain routes. At the time of writing this, WN8521 on a Max 8 is enroute from DAL to SKF and also WN8505 PAE to PHX, neither of those are on your list. You'll also see that Southwest is no longer using only 6000 series flight numbers for Max 8 flights. The only way to check to see if your flight is on a Max 8 is the info noted above with the noted caveat that aircraft changes can occur and any time. --TheMiddleSeat

@LainieMorales posts from passengers who think they have the right to board first make me crazy. Most of those who are pre~boarding early would give anything to not be in this position. Please remember to focus on your self, utilize pre~boarding, and enjoy every moment with your loved ones. Life is way too short. Who cares what other passengers are saying.

Failure to plan ahead on someone else's fault is not an emergency on mine. If they NEEDED three seats together, there were a number of ways for them to get it. Personally, I disagree with people who say that you in the wrong. There are some situations where we need to be understanding like someone boarding a full flight with a small child where their connection was late. But, if they simply didn't want to pay EBCI, and they didn't check in early enough to get three seats together on a full flight, that's on them.
