This is awesome!!! I left a Nexus 7 on an American flight once and there wasn't an awesome community like this to help me in my moment of loss. Of course having awesome passengers like this is what makes flying WN something I love! Awesome story!

Love the idea of discounts for last minute travel to the cities you LUV! Truth be told, I haven't found a flight that wasn't completely full by the time we left the gate in some time. However, if there was a way to snag one of the last seats for cheap, you bet your butt I'd buy that ticket! In reality, though, as any product and it's substitutes become more scarce, a good marketer is going to hold out for whomever is willing to pay the most. That's just economics. What if, though, Southwest offered these fares to RR members but only to the primary or secondary city that they select on their profile? Wouldn't that be cool? Love your idea!

@melg, Looks like the new width is 17.8". From my observations, it looks like the extra seat width was increased by narrowing the armrest. Source: http://www.cntraveler.com/galleries/2015-04-14/everything-you-need-to-know-about-southwest-s-new-seats

@Wagon487, Saving seats. Ugh. To be honest, I'm glad that Southwest doesn't have a formal policy on seats. Letting an elderly woman put a light jacket on a seat for her husband who had to use the restroom, or an A-list business traveler set his ipad on a seat for his B43 bride are gestures that are just fine with me. Now when these actions are don't for a companion traveler, but in hopes of an empty middle seat, they aren't the same. My wife and I love to travel and when we do, we like to sit together. For me, that means an eternity of middle seats, but I'm okay with that. I'm always grateful when I'm able to find a seat next to her (she's an A-lister and always ahead of me). To be honest, on occasion, she's spread her things out while I made my way down the jet bridge. Of course, if anyone asked if the seat was taken, she could say, "no you can sit here if you'd like, but I was hoping to let my husband have it." I think this casual behavior and subtle social signal is better than the confrontational and confusing "this seat is taken" discussion. At the same time, if I came across a bank of seats that had been "claimed" by a family, I would have to consider the costs and benefits of informing them of Southwest's open seating policy versus avoiding confrontation and finding a less comfortable seat. If comfort on a long flight is important, than I would try to find a polite way to say, "you know what, I understand it's important that you and your family sit together, but its also important that I get to enjoy the additional comfort that I've paid for. There are two rows right behind, and I'm sure your family would be so grateful to be seated together. If you don't mind, I'm going to take this seat here." Now why do you have to do that and not Southwest? I don't know. Maybe avoiding those confrontations helps improve boarding time, meaning that we can all get where we're going on time. Also, it leaves those human interactions and those judgement calls to us, the passengers. There are always going to be some people in the world that don't understand certain things as well as others. There will always be people that abuse privelege and people that try to take advantage of others. Our delimma--in life, not just boarding an airplane--is deciding how to deal with these people in these interactions. If legroom is important enough, I'm sure you'll find a polite way to get what you desire and 'nudge' the others into understanding how their actions are affecting others. If keeping your cool and sucking it up for a few hours is the path you choose, then you'll enjoy the peace and comfort of knowing you're the bigger person. And maybe, just maybe, that's more important. The good news? More legroom is coming for all of the seats.

@lejgood, Even though the promotion is over, I cannot tell you enough how grateful I am for my small investment in PreCheck. It has made traveling (especially through DAL) a pleasure and a breeze for my wife and I, returning valuable hours of time spent in line waiting back to our lives. </soapbox>

Hi @Momma3m2j, I did some searching on this and while you cannot change your username from the account settings online, a phone call to the Rapid Rewards customer service team might help you accomplish what you need. From a post on another travel forum (albeit four years ago) I see that a customer was able to call Customer Service, have them delete the online account for the RR account and then the user was able to create a new one. I'm not sure if that's still a possibility, but you could always give it a try! Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards P.O. Box 36657 Dallas, TX 75235 1-800-445-5764 for Rapid Rewards Automated Service

Hi @rosdur55! I've never been lucky enough to fly with anyone on a companion pass. However, it seems to me like the other person flying with you should be able to access the boarding pass for their flight through their own RR account. Have you given that a try? Here's a link to all of the mobile boarding methods with instructions: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/airport-experience/mobile-boarding-pass.html

Hi @emigalvan, Your first flight, that's awesome! Funny thing is that I work in the travel industry and rarely get to travel, so I'm so envious of your journey! I was always fascinated by airplanes, specifically commercial passenger aviation when I was a kid. I liked to pretend I was a pilot and play with the little diecast toy planes my dad would bring home with him. It was always do fascinating to me, but flying? That was another story. I would always get sooooo nervous! Heart pounding. Felt like I was going to be sick. You know what though? When I realized what I was about to do (fly) was absolutely freaking amazing and that the people doing it (pilots) were amazing at their job. That feeling of loss of control? You can look at it at two ways. 1) Being completely terrified that you're not in control or 2) enjoying the opportunity to let go, exhale and enjoy 1-4 hours of time uninterrupted when YOU are in control of your time. It's the only place in the world where that really happens (flying). When I fly, I'm in control. I decide what I'm going to do with my time. I decide when to relax. I decide when to listen to music. I decide when to play that silly game on my phone. I decide when to turn to my seatmate and learn about their life story or when to look out the window and ponder how all of those fields yield the wheat that makes the bread that I enjoy on my turkey and swiss that I'll likely be packing in my lunchbox next week. When I fly, it's my time. On Southwest, I even get to decide where I get to do that by picking my seat. Didn't get an early boarding group? Even better, I get to pick my seatmate. Nervous? I've got the most luving, kind and charismatic crew in the sky and I know they're going to take great care of me. Flying is amazing and the only time that I am in complete control of what i get to do. I love it and it's one of the best feelings in the world. Getting there isn't so bad either, especially when it's somewhere new. Do you mind if I ask where you're travelling?

No issues with other carriers. Actually, as a workaround, I will screenshot my WN boarding pass, crop the QR code and then save it to Google Keep so I can display the image on my watch. (I have a Fossil Q Founder but have also used this technique with the Samsung Gear Live). It would be great to be able to do this natively from the app without the work around. Also, I've read some people complaining about using their watch at TSA checkpoints or some barcode scanners that "face up" as you typically have to flip your wrist upside down. My solution to this is to twist my watch so the face is facing down. No more looking like a contortionist when I go to scan my code!

According to TSA's website: "If you are able to stand with your arms above your head five to seven seconds without support, you may undergo screening through advanced imaging technology or the walk-through metal detector if you are able to walk through without support." You can find more about tranveling with disabilities and medical conditions on their website here.

@BullsFan, The system outage must have been a terrible experience. I cannot imagine how that must have impacted families, businesspeople and all of the airport and airline staff over those several days and weeks. With that said, I'm sure that Southwest lost a ton of money through accomodations, overtime and crediting cancelled flights. It seems to me that extending the Companion Pass benefits might cost them even more money. However, I don't think that their A-List perks have too many hard costs associated with them. If they were to grant you an extension for the inconvenience you suffered, how long would you want it to be?

@Flyerfan, I wouldn't be able to cite the specific number of times, but I can tell you when I have my alarm set and "hit the button" right on the second the clock turns, it is definitely frustrating to see a 'dreaded' C boarding position. However, most of these flights turn out to be full of business women and men using the "company plane" to get to their meeting. The abundance of A-listers drives the boarding positions back for the rest of us. Typically, I'm in the high A's or low to mid B's without A-list and a pretty consistent track record of checking in "right on the button." At the end of the day, the longer I wait to board, means the less time I have to wait on the plane. Also, when you're high B or low C, you get to pick who your seatmate is, instead of the other way around. Pretty cool logic when you think of it that way... Happy flying!

@SeanCarp, There is a good chance the FA will not accept your expired tickets. I'd check with friends and co-workers to see if you know anyone that is flying WN this week to see if they might enjoy them. It's unfortunate you won't be able to use them yourself, but trust me, drinks on Southwest are way cheaper than the other guys. On a few occasions, I have witnessed passengers that do not drink while flying "paying it forward" by surrendering their drink tickets to the flight attendants. Through my travels, I've learned that paying attention, smiling and being courteous goes a long way with cabin crew. Happy travels!

@maddiegrant, It sounds like you're looking to acheive the same boarding position as your partner. Congratulations to both of you on your business and acheiving Companion Pass status, that's something I certainly wish I had! While you probably won't twist Southwest's arm into bundling your boarding position directly behind his (the other A-listers probably wouldn't like that), you can always be excited that you get to fly for free and enjoy the seats in the middle (they actually offer a much smoother ride). Congratulations on your status and happy flying!

One of the things I love about wearable technology is not having to constantly have my phone in my hand. Quickly, I can delete e-mail messages, reply to texts, and get updates and alerts. While a few of the other major airlines have embraced this technology, Southwest isn't quite there. I would absolutely love to be able to drop my bag, fly through security and board my flight with a flick of my wrist! *I am so so so sorry I posted a picture with another airline's logo. Hopefully it will be the Southwest heart the next time I fly!

@Carolinky, Glad to hear you were able to make your flight! Not sure how techy you are, but if you're into automating reminders, I just found a great recipe here on IFTTT (If This Then That) that will automatically send you a reminder 24 hours before your flight to remind you to check-in. I'd set it for a few extra minutes just so you can get the wesbite/app loaded. Hope this is helpful!

@Merk, Have you considered grouping the folks with the person in the last boarding position? Let's say you have a family: Bob, Mary, Timmy and Sarah. Mary is A-List, so she got a A5 position, but her family, Bob, Timmy and Sarah all have B boarding passes (they were quick to check-in 24 hour before their flight). Perhaps Mary could forfeit her A position and join her family in line and let the others go ahead? I doubt any passengers in the boarding area would have an issue with you cutting back in the line as opposed to up in the line. Has anyone else tried this approach?

What a cool campaign, @RapidReed! This was a bit before my time, but just found these flight schedules on eBay. I wondered what the nautical flags on the bottom meant, so I looked them up: Sierra Whiskey Alpha. Clever. Thanks for sharing, would have never known about this campaign without your post!

Hi samjoyfay! Puerto Rico sounds fun! I'd love to go there and so cool of you to be saving up for your boyfriend! I've always been able to use my RapidRewards to book tickets for others. You can find full program terms online here. Here's what they currently say about booking for others: Can I book travel with points for other Passengers (not me)? Yes. The Rapid Rewards Member who owns the account from which the points will be used will need to make the reservation for the person traveling. Simply get the destination, travel dates, and flight times from the person who will be using your points and log in to your account via Southwest.com to book the reward travel. A Passenger traveling on a ticket using points from another Member's account will not be allowed to make changes to the itinerary. The Passenger must contact the Member and have the Member make any necessary changes. All reward travel is subject to taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges of at least $5.60 per one-way trip, which must be paid with a credit card, travel fund, or Southwest gift card at the time of booking. Applicable taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges can vary significantly based on your arrival and departure destination. I hope that answers your question!

I live in Texas, but most of my family does not. There are two destinations that I like to fly to frequently when I have the chance and the price is right. Typically, a Fri-Sun trip is great for these destinations. It would be amazing if Southwest adopted a program to alert RR members of considerably empty flights with deeply discounted point redemption fares. This would be advantageous from a revenue perspective (filling empty seats and redeeming points on seats that were unlikely to generate revenue). The caveat? You can only select these fares for one, two or three destinations you've saved in your RR profile. Maybe call them Family Fares? Just a thought...
