I’ve flown SW for a long time so I know the ins and out of bookings. I’ve never come across a domestic one way flight though that charges $11.20 in the fees for points bookings though. Is this new???
Not posting the route just wondering if it’s new or an error or what. I’ve also never seen SW allow such long connections domestically.

Thanks for the information Nicole!
I’ve flown Southwest a lot over the last 5ish years and I’ve never seen or heard of that happening. Good to know.

Very strange to happen in less than a minute though out of 3 people checking in.
My SO got the A boarding group designation. I’m wondering if her A List status may be a factor that’s the only thing I can think of giving her an A and the other 2 being B Group as the other 2 have no status, just strange.

Basing it on personal experience. I’ve been to LAX at 12am, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am all times had at least one staff member at the desk.
I’ve been on 5am flights which would mean a 3am or 3:30am baggage check. I’ve also landed from SW flights at 12am to 2am and it’s taken up to an hour for everyone to collect baggage.

They’re open 24/7 and you can check in bags up to 2 hours before your flight.

So we have a reservation for my SO, I and our little one each has its own separate confirmation number as each had separate travel funds and max it lets you use is 3.
Anyways - I checked myself in first exactly 24 hours before on the dot and got B29, checked our little one in next he got B30. Here’s where it gets weird I checked my SO in last and she got A29.
That makes no sense at all and makes it feel a bit rigged rather than a true first come first serve as it’s always been.
Any thoughts? We’re all on the same 2 flights same connecting flight everything.

I’m told (in the past) that there’s 2 types of Luv Vouchers.
1) Created for missing baggage or other flight issues
2) Created in exchange for travel funds
I feel like I’ve been told in the past that travel funds that were previously LUV vouchers aren’t not eligible to trade in to create a new LUV Voucher. But hoping I’m wrong.
I’m waiting to try because if I can’t I’d likely gift them to a friend or family member who can travel by that date rather then letting them die completely.

I have a LUV Voucher expiring in a couple weeks for $200 I will not be able to travel by then.
I know SW will convert travel fund to a LUV Voucher with a 6 month expiration for a $100 fee ( fee currently waived 6/1-12/31 is my understanding).
However, my understanding is that if I use the LUV Voucher for a reservation then cancel it I cannot request the travel funds created from that be converted as it was originally a LUV Voucher. Is this correct?
The LUV Voucher I have was from a customer service issue (flight issue) with a 1 year expiration.
Any Advice on options?

That’s why I said we wouldn’t mind putting ourselves at A15 regardless of if say I got an A2 boarding position. That way they’d unofficially be A16 and able to board without an issue technically. Another issue I foresee is it’s first a domestic flight (DAL -> HOU) which shouldn’t be an issue, then it’s an international flight (HOU -> LIR). But I will try to go to the desk and ask on the 2nd leg as that’s definitely the most important leg of the trip. I feel like SW’s system has been so hit or miss lately. I’ve had times recently where I’ve done the online check in 22 hours before the flight and gotten A22 so I assumed the flight wouldn’t be packed, nope it was 100% full, but despite checking in 2 hours “late” (late for me as I check in usually right at 24 hours to secure an A boarding) I still got an A. Then others where I check in 30 seconds after the 24 hour mark and get a B - Boarding position.

Hi, Just wondering what Southwest’s Official or Unofficial policy is regarding A List Boarding together for Companions on a Business Select Fare? I’ve bought the is a BS fare only once before and that was last month we were allowed to board together despite my companion getting in the B boarding group. Gate Agent didn’t say anything but did give a look. I guess it would be preferable to stand at the A-15 spot regardless of what other lower A I may get so it can be easier for Companion to board with me. Just wanted to see thoughts on this as we have a trip booked for our Honeymoon and wouldn’t like any issues

The reasoning was just the to other from areas were allowing changes for everyone due to COVID along with Travel Restrictions. Basically what I’m hearing from your response is - Even though SW told us we could make a change, and that change was processed, it’s our fault. Which makes no sense because they allowed the change. Not only that but no communication happened. It’d be a completely different story if they had emailed us and said there was an error and we’d been rebooked on our original flight.

So we booked a flight at the end of January using Travel Funds expiring 1/28 for a 1/27 flight. A few days later in the app the red banner appeared saying we could change our flight up to 14 days into the future. So we made the change to February 10th, the change went through and we got to the confirmation page. However, no email confirmation of the change was sent. A few days into February and the flight isn’t showing up in our itinerary anymore. I check the schedule and the booked flight is still there. No cancellation email received, nothing. So I use the Look Up Reservations feature which says “this reservation has been cancelled”. So we suck it up and take the loss. I just want to get the community’s thoughts on this, since we did get to the confirmation page, no cancellation or change email was sent notifying us that it had been cancelled. On top of that the flight booked was still fully available.

Thanks for the reply. I wrote per person because we have the same Travel Fund just split between two people. For example - If the Travel Fund ID was RTU858 its Husband - RTU858 - $240 Wife - RTU858 - $240 I was thinking ahead as per person because I don’t think they’d consider that 1 Fund despite it having the same Travel Fund Numbers, sadly. I appreciate the information. Is it fairly easy to do over the phone or is Twitter easier if anyone has experience?

Hi, I have some Travel Funds for my wife and myself expiring at the end of March. Due to some health issues we won’t be able to travel by then. I’ve read there’s a way to “trade in” expired Travel Funds for a LUV Voucher (less $100 of the expired funds per person I believe). It’s about $240 in expiring funds each so $140 each is better than nothing. I wish I would’ve just made and cancelled a reservation before 9/7 though to get the 2022 expiration, but it happens. I wanted to know how to go about the “trade in” process and if it’s easy or fairly difficult. Thanks!

Yeah, different wording would have helped as two were “earned”. I believe since this is a rare occurrence and limited to less than a 2 month period it should be honored. If it were for the full 12-24 months I’d understand, but for such a short period, especially with less traveling due to COVID, I don’t really see a reason not to allow it.

“You cannot earn CP multiple times concurrently.” In most years that’s true, but in 2020 Southwest decided to run a promo where from 9/22-9/25 if you registered, booked travel and flew by 11/15 you’d earn a Companion Pass. Prior to that offer I had already earned a Companion Pass valid through 12/21. Yesterday I just received an email from SW saying, “Congratulations on earning Promotional Companion Pass.” Meaning, technically, I did earn CP multiple times concurrently, that’s just a fact. Whether I can use both at the same time is the issue, but I definitely earned both, if even says so in the quote from Southwest at the end of the last paragraph. As far as the reservation goes - I made a booking with both me, my son and my Companion since it’s not yet 1/6 there’s no ability do designate or add a Companion for my son. The issue for me is price, I made this booking under the impression that we should be able to each add a companion as I see nothing in SW terms that forbids it (unless you see something??). Since then the price has doubled so it’d be an issue to undo that I know. I have had it where a SW Agent has created a companion reservation that’s loosely linked to the original. It doesn’t show up as linked online or in the app, it has a separate confirmation number that I’d have to look up to check in or do anything rather than searching by My Itinerary where it’s usually linked. So I guess that’s an option as well. Any thoughts?

Hi, So here’s the situation both I and my 4 year old son earned a Promotional Companion Pass valid January 6th through the end of February. Can I make a reservation with myself and my son then we each add a Companion? So Buy Two Get Two Free (plus taxes and fees). Additionally I already had earned a Companion Pass prior to earning the Promotional Companion Pass. So I have two separate Companion Passes for myself. Would I be able to have Two Companions fly with me since I do have Two Companion Passes earned?

Can I ask why it'd be at the discretion of the gate agent at all? I've added my Companion to my flight literally 70 minutes before the actual flight time just through the app. So once the Gate agent changes the primary person's flight it'd show in the app and you can add Companion yourself. Just make sure its at least an hour before since they cutoff the flights to new reservations online.

My experience recently is 3 times. After that you can still change it for free if it says so, but you have to call or reach out via Social Media to get it done.

A List is different as there are 2 Tiers, A-List and A-List Preferred, whereas with the Companion Pass there is only 1. Meaning that Southwest, as a Bonus for meeting both criterion could Boost one to A-List Preferred. They've done boosts, and accelerated status in the past, even this year prior to the Pandemic Boost. So it would be feasible to do. Seems worthwhile for Southwest to offer a status accelerator to those who qualify for A-List in more ways than one. Don't need to be snooty and mention things that are massively different. That'd be like telling someone eating a $5 Burger, well you know you could go get the $100 Prime Rib...Makes no sense at all.

Except the requirements for A List and Companion Pass are VASTLY different. Companion pass would require you to meet the qualifications for A List more than 3 times.

If you qualify for status in two ways is there any bonus? For example - If you earn 35,000 points AND Fly 25 One Way Revenue Flights you would qualify for A-List two separate ways, two separate times.

Right now ticket prices for the most part are on the higher end. They were much lower in March. In March we were booking trips for August for 6,000 points Round Trip, those same flights are now 9,000+ points each, so roughly a 50% increase. For the most part our departure city, Minneapolis, has no good sales when sales are announced. To go to LA, NYC, Miami, or Dallas the cheapest shown right now is $160 Roundtrip. Which is okay if we absolutely needed to get somewhere. But we do more sporadic trips based on low fares. We've gotten Roundtrip flights to LA or Dallas and back for 6,000 points. So paying $160 vs 6k points is a pretty big difference when you're buying 3 tickets.

I feel like that is counter intuitive though. Typically airlines sell the cheapest seats first and as those sell out the price increases as inventory decreases. At least that’s how it works with most airlines. It works that way with SW somewhat like I’ve seen it say only 1 seat available at this price. So if you try to purchase 2 it’ll increase the price to the next tier. Was hoping someone had more insight like during the 2nd week of this month based on past years it typically drops. @ipsedixit - As stated in my post our travel plans are mostly dependent upon cheap ticket prices. So we typically do not book unless the price is well below average for our route.

MiddleSeat - Sadly, you’re incorrect. Had you read my post you’d know that the Companion Pass requires 125,000 points, not 110,000. This was announced by Southwest in December and took effect January 1st 2020.

I've flown with Southwest for about 4 years now steadily and I've found pretty fluctuating ticket prices. For example, I may go on randomly on a day in February or March and find ticket prices for May-September for 2,500 (ish) points. But that same flight a week later is 6,000+ points. I have noticed this a lot over the past couple years. That randomly over about a 2-3 day period certain routes will drop vastly in price, then a few days later go to double or triple the price I saw for flights 3-6 months away. I've also checked and it's a completely unadvertised sale or drop in price. When I've called in to make a change or something even the reps over the phone say, "Wow, you got a REALLY good deal". As the flight will typically be selling for 3x what I paid. It's not at all airports it's just certain routes severely drop in price. Any thoughts on this? I know obviously with Southwest the best thing to do is book ahead and if it drops get the difference back in points or Travel Funds. But for me mostly I only take these trips because I see such a huge price drop, and would not otherwise take the trips. I always travel with 2 more "Adults" (we pay for an adult for our child because Southwest's "child fare" is always more than Wanna Get Away) so paying 1/3 the price is a big difference for us.
