Please stop trying to be like all the other airlines. I have always tried to fly Southwest and love the flexibility of open seating.

All of this would have been avoided if Southwest would have tossed people off the plane who tried to save seats. No one would save a seat again. Instead, they allow people to abuse the open seating and tell one customer that there is no policy yet tell another that saving seats is forbidden.
Southwest brought this on themselves. Herb would have tossed them off the plane and tossed a refund check in their wake. Who needs customers who are nothing but trouble?

A big shout out to all of the people that gamed the pre-board system. You destroyed it. Next year SWA will have assigned seats and I could not be happier about it. I would have preferred they made this move earlier but better late than never. The parasite killed the host.

Yeah, for some reason the paper domestic flights show the drinks, but the international ones don't.

Like I have said before, you can do acrobatics and back flips all the way to the gate, wear a t-shirt that says "I CHEAT THE PREBOARD SYSTEM", give an interview on Fox News about your abuse of the system, then self-identify as a person with a disability - PREBOARD.

I agree and think the entire flight should pre board. WE all suffer from some sort of affliction...

I dont think ANYONE has an issue with people like you preboarding. This is exactly what the system is meant for. You must also be aware there is much abuse.

Thanks for the reply and where to send the idea to Southwest. It may take some doing by the airport to honor the request, possibly re-route the electrical outlets and place 60 seats, back-to-back, so passengers can sit and wait in a comfortable manner. Fifteen minutes (15) before boarding begins, they ask all passengers to start taking their "assigned seats" to help move the boarding process faster. Sending passengers fifteen at a time helps unblock congestion getting on the plane and in the aisle- as passengers place their carry-ons in the overhead compartment. It may get some getting used to and there will be some growing pains for sure, just like any other change.
At O’Hare for instance the gates are all shared use by the airlines so the seating thing would not work since Southwest may change which gates they use.
There may be a logistical issue as well with sixty seats per gate taken up for this purpose, some locations are so tight there is barely room for sixty seats in total.

I've posted this previously, but SWA can ask for the "reason" to pre-board it's stated right here on the DOT web site Pre-Boarding Notice Final:
chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.gov/files/docs/Preboarding%20Notice%20Final_0.pdf
"In the revised final rule published on May 13, 2008, the Department expanded the preboarding requirement to cover not only people who need a specific seat assignment or who need to stow their personal folding wheelchairs, but also to cover passengers that “need additional time or assistance to board, stow accessibility equipment, or be seated.” For a passenger to be entitled to preboarding, that passenger must self-identify at the gate as being a person with a disability that needs to preboard for one of the above-listed reasons."
Southwest can ask for the reason- then they need to shut up and if the potential pre-boarder cannot articulate one of the "above listed reasons", Then Get back in Line.

Massive abuse by people gaming the system. These are the parasites of society.

My estimate is 50% of preboard people are simply abusing the system and are parasites.

After 4 flights in 2 days which each had over 25 pre-boarders- I'm over it. And breaking news states that SW has increased the maximum charge for earlybird check-in and upgraded boarding ( up to $149!). That will surely increase the number of pre-boarders.
Also- SW policy regarding saving of seats ( they don't officially have one) has also been put out there on social media and now abused.
Between the 2 policies- the abuse has gotten out of control.
I used to like no assigned seating - but now I wish that Southwest had pre-assigned seating.

I don’t think I would fly if I was that way. Not sure how first few rows will help motion sickness as it’s not like a car. Window may not help either.

We see people gaming most any system put in place. This is just one such example. I have been in line with a veteran of war that could easily legitimately qualify for pre board but he would not have it. He was pretty outraged at the people he saw clearly gaming the policy. This was going on with emotional support dogs as well. To the people that do this, shame on you.

Contact Southwest and obtain a complete refund. In addition, file a complaint with the US Department of Transportation. Southwest needs to take people who save seats and have them removed from the plane.
Where is the flight attendant?
This is a Southwest problem.

You may be right. The part that concerns me is the gate agent manager behaved as if I was crazy to think I could do this. I said look at the exact same flight the previous week on my account but he would not have it. I did get a SWA customer service response but it avoids the issue. Here is the exact response. Note there was plenty of time, I had no checked bags, it was a domestic flight and there was plenty of room.
Dear Kieran, I regret you feel that we missed the mark in our previous email. We are dedicated to providing outstanding Customer Service, so I’m grateful that you’ve given us another chance to address your concerns. As you know, A-List or A-List Preferred Members can fly standby on an earlier flight (between the same city pairs) at no additional charge, regardless of booking method, as long as the alternate flight operates on the same-day as your originally scheduled flight and there is space available. While same-day standby is available to A-List and A-List Preferred Members traveling internationally as well as domestically, there must be enough time for our Customer Service Agents to process the change, which can take longer for international travel as we are required to remove any checked baggage when a Customer changes his/her flight. Additionally, it is important to note that, effective January 1, 2021, if an A-List or A-List Preferred Member takes advantage of their same-day standby benefit and the new flight requires any additional government taxes and fees, the Member will be asked to pay the difference. We hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792). We hope you’ll continue looking to us when your travel plans include the cities we serve—your business is important to us. Sincerely, Brayan Contreras Southwest Airlines
