A huge percentage of Alaskans live in the Anchorage area, so the small amount of traffic coming from small towns can be left to Alaska. Alaska's main hub is Seattle anyway. Lots of cruises also end near Anchorage. Anchorage to Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and Baltimore would make great redeye candidates. Several years ago I took a redeye from Anchorage to Minneapolis and it worked out great. The downside to serving Anchorage is the extreme seasonality, but Southwest still serves Fort Myers despite it's extreme seasonality. Run flights to Anchorage in the summer and more flights to RSW in the winter.

You should have reported the incident to the flight attendant. Coming here is an interesting story, but the solution was on the plane.

You qualified for family boarding since you had a child under the age of 7. You should have paid attention to the boarding announcements, which apparently you did not.
While Southwest could have done better, you started this whole chain of events by not listening to the boarding announcements.

Carry on baggage is out of control in my opinion.
I have flown round trip recently, on both flights it seems everyone is carrying more and more stuff onboard. On the return leg of the trip we were delayed because people were going back and forth inside the aircraft trying to find overhead space for their bags (suitcases). It was just crazy.
I've learned to pack extraordinarily light - my smallest suitcase is 16" and can fit underneath the seat in front of me. I remember going on a flight (not Southwest) where overhead bin space was "full" by the time my group boarded, and everyone "had" to gate check their bag. I knew my suitcase was small enough to put underneath the seat, but many others were complaining so loudly that they had to gate check their bags when I am almost positive their things could have fit underneath the seat.
The point is: put things underneath your seat! Not everything needs to go overhead.

Southwest Airlines says it has adopted a so-called "poison pill," or shareholder rights plan, in its efforts to fight off activist investors. The plan will activate if Elliott Management — which wants to oust the airline's leadership — gains at least 12.5% of the company. If that happens, all the other shareholders will get a chance to buy one new Southwest share for every share they already own, half-price. Elliott revealed last month that it had gathered a $1.9 billion stake in the airline, or about 11%. The poison pill would water down Elliott's influence over voting.
Elliott has slammed Southwest for "poor execution" and a "stubborn unwillingness to evolve" that has driven its share price down more than 50% in three years.
The airline had already been mulling major changes to try and revive its business, such as adding premium seating.

Soon, Southwest will start assigning boarding positions to all of the preboard passengers, and when they have boarded, the remaining six people who did not preboard may walk on the plane.

Such practices would result in lawsuits until time itself comes to an end. There is no basis to require someone who boards early to wait until the plane is otherwise empty to exit.
It is my belief that your suggestion is designed to discourage people from preboarding via wheelchair.
The only way to approach a partial fix is to require a medical certification like we have to handicapped parking. However, there will continue to be preboarding as people would see a doctor to get the certification and those will be approved, I assure you.

"only sell earlybird for the A boarding position.
There is no way to do that because there is no way to know how many A-Listers will grab A spots until 36 hours before the flight. You could have A50-A60 available and then 10 A Listers buy tickets and grab them.
EBCI only guarantees 2 things:
1) you don't need to worry about checking in at t-24 hours
2) You will get a better boarding position than everyone that checks in manually.
That's it.

not necessarily too large. many beach umbrellas, canopies, etc come in a carry bag that is quite compact. it would have to meet size requirements though. same for a duffel bag. some are pretty small.

After 4 flights in 2 days which each had over 25 pre-boarders- I'm over it. And breaking news states that SW has increased the maximum charge for earlybird check-in and upgraded boarding ( up to $149!). That will surely increase the number of pre-boarders.
Also- SW policy regarding saving of seats ( they don't officially have one) has also been put out there on social media and now abused.
Between the 2 policies- the abuse has gotten out of control.
I used to like no assigned seating - but now I wish that Southwest had pre-assigned seating.

It's understandable to be concerned about your booking, especially when you've encountered an unusual delay in receiving the confirmation email. Since you've used a gift card and Apple Pay for your purchase, there are a few things to consider:
1. **Pending Charges**: The fact that you see pending charges indicates that the transaction is in progress. Sometimes, confirmation emails can be delayed due to various reasons such as server issues or email delivery delays.
2. **Rebooking and Gift Card**: If for any reason your reservation doesn't go through and you need to rebook, you should be able to use the gift card again. Gift cards typically retain their balance until fully utilized or expired, so you shouldn't encounter any issues using it for a subsequent booking.
3. **Refunds and Reversals**: In case the pending charges do not result in a completed reservation, the pending charges should be automatically reversed by your bank or financial institution. This process might take a few days depending on their policies.
4. **Contact Customer Support**: If you're still concerned about your booking or if you don't receive the confirmation email within a reasonable time frame, it's advisable to contact the customer support of the airline. They can provide you with specific details about your transaction and assist you further.
5. **Document Transaction Details**: Make sure to document all transaction details, including any pending charges, confirmation numbers (if available), and communication with customer support. This will help you in case you need to follow up or dispute any charges with your bank.
In summary, while it's understandable to be concerned about the delay in receiving the confirmation email, there shouldn't be any issues using the gift card again if needed for a rebooking. Keep an eye on your bank statement for any updates on the pending charges, and don't hesitate to reach out to customer support for assistance if necessary.

If you read the entire post you would know that after the woman put dog under seat as directed she never opened carrier again. She originally was comforting dog because it was crying. The dog let out a whimper and that was the initial decision to remove her. Southwest is basing their decision on what the flight crew reported. They did not reach out to any other passengers. If you did a true follow up you would know they had warned her about dog crying that if it continues they would remove her. Then said it was because she opened carrier which she had not.

The policy is clear. It is not really "family boarding" but better described as "child assist".
For the policy to come to life, you have to have a child under the age of seven. When you have a child under the age of seven, up to two adults can board with that child during "family boarding" which occurs between A and B group.
An "adult" is defined as a person who has reached legal age at the place of boarding.

Isn't this EBCI, in a sense? That was so problematic that they eventually stopped selling it on most flights. My concern here is that this also further incentivizes preboarding abuse, and not 100% sure how family boarding would be accounted for if a group decides not to purchase connected positions (WN does not need bad press about families not sitting together like on F9 or NK)
