It sounds like you booked through Southwest Vacations which is not part of, nor owned/operated by Southwest Airlines. For questions about refunds you will need to work with Southwest Vacations. If you entered the info incorrectly online I'm not sure what recourse you have here as the error was your making and was not noticed until the last minute. If you called Southwest Vacations to make the reservation then perhaps you have some standing, but not noticing the mistake until the last mute creates some difficulty. If it truly was an error created by Southwest Vacations you may be able to dispute the issue through your credit card.
I would not agree either Southwest Airlines nor Southwest Vacations is "struggling to stay in business", but that's not really relevant to the matter. Your issue here is with Southwest Vacations and I hope they work with you to resolve it.

Yes, I've experienced this and it is frustrating. I don't remember how long it takes before the free change becomes unavailable. That seems like something @bec102896 might know.
Will the system let you make the free change to the same flight, clearing that out of the way so you can make the price adjustment?

You did not state the reason for the delayed flight which is going to make a very big difference in whether there will be any compensation for the delay and resulting expenses. Without a reason for the delay you aren't going to be able to pursue this further. Also, this might not have been an oversell situation if you showed up late, past the boarding deadline. The seats may have been given to standby passengers when it appeared you were not going to be taking the flight. Your best bet in situations like this is travel insurance or utilizing the trip delay coverage provided by many credit cards. Assuming you did not purchase travel insurance I would look into any coverage provided by your credit card if you used one to pay for the flights.

I assume you are asking about non-stop flights, not direct which in Southwest speak is a flight that stops, but doesn't change planes. These days Southwest is routing most of their international flights through a handful of airports and having people connect through those few places. Based on this trend I wouldn't expect a non-stop OAK-PVR to return, but you never know. Submit your feedback directly to Southwest so they know the demand is there. Without having been there, watching over your shoulder there's no way to tell if this was a system error or perhaps you didn't actually complete the change process. It's very unfortunate, but you'll have to go with what you're being told. Hopefully you are able to purchase another flight and get home. When you do get home you could write to Southwest and explain what you believe happened, they may be able to look into it afterwards. @SC1 the promotional Companion Passes are typically awarded shortly before the period when the pass is available to use. In this case, that appears to be August 15 so I would expect the pass to be ready to use sometime within 30 days of August 15. The official terms and conditions of the offer may have more info if you happen to still have them.
